I'm thinking that those with disabilities can live pretty much anywhere, and they are choosing to live in a more rural area in the north/mountains because it's more peaceful and picturesque.

There also aren't many jobs in those counties to the north, so mostly only those with what I call "money in the mail" can live there without having a job, along with the people that provide services and goods for those with money in the mail.

Everyone else has to go where the jobs are, near the cities.

Article in this morning's Democrat about the Roman Catholic bishop Anthony Taylor of Arkansas coming out for increasing the Medicaid coverage in the state, and not as a matter of money, but rather "respecting life and its inherent dignity should always be guiding principles in legislative decisions".

Unfortunately, the current legislative cabal hasn't shown itself to be "christian" and those who show any religious indication seem more like Islamist fundamentalist Taliban members.

Saleen/Ev, you are so right about government waste. Why, the Defense Department alone had a $645.7 billion total budget for FY2012. That's a whole lot of $600 hammers and toilet seats, don't you agree?

I know you must be positively beaming that the Obama administration requested a $5.2 billion REDUCTION in the FY2013 Defense base budget, plus another $26.6 billion REDUCTION in OCO (Overseas Contingency Operations- can you say Afghanistan & Iraq?) for FY2013.

Unlike Dick Cheney and ReTHUGliconS, some of us believe that budget deficits do matter!

You're welcome.

Gene, I just checked all 50 states in the 21-64 category. Those states with under 11% disability are CA, CO, CT, IL, MA, MD, MN, NE, ND, MT, NJ, NV, NY, SD, VT, VA, AND WY. MN had the lowest at 9.8%.

With a couple of exceptions, the old confederacy doesn't come out looking good. It would be interesting to see a chart of the state's medicaid coverage. I would guess that the lower % states have more generous medicaid coverage and thus a healthier population.

"Stone County (Missy Irvin's County) has 54% of the male population between the ages of 21 and 64 on disability. All of the counties up there are like that."

Now that would seem to be a place for Legislative Audit to look for a lot of fraud. Isn't her husband a doctor up that way?

DHS needs to look and see which doctors are responsible for the bulk of disability cases (there are always doctors who will write a note for the fee).

Either that or there must be a lot of documemnted woprkman's comp cases which is checkable.

When I taught school, there was a story about one kid in a family being told she wouldn't get any Christmas presents until she qualified for "crazy checks" like the rest of the kids in the family. Why are 22% or so of the state's students classified as special ed, most NOT based on a medical condition.

All of these critters are perpetuating the most egregious frauds and utilizing Medicare to ignore or perpetuate fraud upon the people.
Just like they do with banksters and bond sharks.
