      <![CDATA[Michigan's unemployment rate is 8.9% compared to the 7.8% national average. The average wage in Michigan is 44,438 compared to the average wage in Arkansas is 38,600. Considering the cost of living in Michigan is considerably higher than in Arkansas it's easy to conclude Michigan is not doing that much better overall. In fact, you could argue it's better to have fewer people unemployed with a slightly lower average wage than a heavily unionized state with higher unemployment and higher wage.
