I can't tell what company holds this contract, but it is obvious they are poorly trained. This is basic training 101. We have these same types of demonstrations both day and night without any problems. If these demonstrators were in fact on city property, the officers in question had no jurisdiction. They would be allowed to gather information to complete an informational report, but if the demonstrators refused to answer questions then so be it. A lack of training and FPS oversight are to blame here. Under my watch, these officers would have been reprimanded and reassigned.

Bluefriction, I assure you I'm not a communist and we can discuss this further if you would like. Malcontent? May be guilty as charged, if you mean one who is in active opposition to an established order (that is attempting to erode our constitutional rights). Surely you didn't mean that in a derogatory way ;)

@Bluefriction So I take it you're okay with your government having the power to detain you indefinitely without trial and charges?
Might I also presume that you base your accusation of being malcontents off of extended discussions with those involved in the movement? And that you base your accusation of communism on a through understanding of socio-economic systems?
Has it ever occurred to you that people might be drawn to Occupy because they are tired of the wealthiest and most powerful members of society trying to screw them over?

No yossarian. It does not. But this kind of foolishness by security is less likely to occur during the day when vision is clear and there is access to supervisors. I've seen hundreds of protests take place over there without any sort of challenge from security. Having said that, I bet if they show back up tonight they not be hindered. I suspect that somebody's ass will get climbed when the night shift reports for duty.

Considered with the reports (from FOIA papers) of LRPD infiltrating and spying on OLR, this harassment of legal protest at the federal building does not bode well for the First Amendment. Picketing on sidewalks in front of public facilities has been upheld in the highest courts.

However, the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011 (the Anti-Occupy law) and expansions of the Patriot Act since 2008 have shredded many freedoms we took for granted.

We have created a hostile atmosphere where citizens are viewed with suspicion and fear. The expansion of the security mandate coupled with the privatizing of enforcement troops has led to a dangerous situation. With many public areas militarized and patrolled with ill-educated private security forces, the potential for Tiananmen Square events escalate daily in the US.

In this case, ES is correct in being concerned, as all of us should be.

Not a group of 3 similar incidents.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Jimmy Dykes violently kidnapped and held a child against its will after killing its custodian. Federal officials liberated the hostage.

David Koresh had a cult where people stayed of their freewill (although the children of the cult members had no say but parents generally order their minor children around) The children were gassed to death in a buried bus by federal officials.

Randy Weaver and his family were involved by their own freewill. I remember it less but wasn't the family picked off pretty much one by one by snipers.

Why group Dykes in with Waco and Ruby Ridge?

Oh please. Title 18 is the United States Criminal Code. My guess is that the guards involved were private security officers employed by GSA and supervised by the Federal Protection Service. This doesn't sound Courthouse Security Officers (CSOs) that run the security point and provide security for the judges and personnel in the courthouse. Those guys are pros. My suggestion for OLR would be to try their sign wave during the daylight hours. I'm guessing that they will find security to be less jumpy then.

That's right esss, don't ask the connection, just continue your insane clown posse rant. The Chinese Consulate was angered by a Falun Gong protester across the street, so they refused to allow anyone on the sidewalk around the building. There's the connection; it is NOT a change of subject! What the hell do you mean ". . .can't/won't address who we are. . ."? I know exactly what you are and I do hope you get some help before the bell tolls. BTW, is that the editorial "we" or the royal "we".

I agree, i am an extremist in America today.

Indefinite detention, waging wanton murder upon innocents all around the world for the sole purpose of looting. Maintaining kill lists. No evidence, charge, trial or conviction needed. I am against these things and many other tyrannical abrogations of our best laws which are connected to this state of yo in the extreme.

As i have said and will keep saying, what disturbs me most is the so-called left in America would rather belittle my (and these fine patriots who took a public stand) points than utterly reject their leadership who perpetuates tyranny.

Ah yes, when you can't/won't address who we are... find some Chinese in Chicago to change the subject.

When the teabaggers demonstrated with their guns in hand they faced none or the scrutiny, questioning, pepper and rubber bullet spraying or detention peaceful occupiers have.

We lost rule of law long ago... except for the benefit/abrogation at the top.

Sounds just like the Chinese Consulate in Chicago. ES, as usual you blew whatever you had to say. Take your guns and a copy of the 2nd down to the Federal Building and see what happens.

As long as the first - free speech and assembly... is treated as a security threat by the very entity (govt) which is supposed to treat it in exactly the opposite manner, we the people should never be 'reasonable' - toy with the second amendment. Especially when the 'threat' is mere sunlight upon/questioning of indefinite detention.
