I would rather have open carry, so we can all see who has the guns and decide for ourselves if we trust them or not.

As it is, with concealed carry we have no clue, which means our freedom to decide for ourselves has been taken away by the person with the gun. Their freedom has trumped our freedom, and they seem to be very happy about that. That means they think their freedom is more important than those that don't carry, which is quite arrogant.

Shouldn't battered exwife deserve to be able to see if battering ex got a concealed permit?

Tao

Read up before you post to prevent others from believing you pop off with half cocked ideas.

Case in point.

ZIP code does not = address.

Here is proof. I live in 72227. I have guns, a couple big ole LED TV's, laptops, expensive bicycles,... Be aware all the jewelry is fake though.

Come and get it!

I have narrowed my "address" down to maybe 10,000 people's.

Now spin around how a "public good" is served. (an open mind gathers no moss, a closed mind gathers no facts)

Battered Ex checks CCP list and sees battering felonious Ex gets a
CCP. Probably bought at a gun show.

She doesn't need the worthless ZIP code to know to flee.

Haven't read the bill. But a rational cogitation about possible reasons for not wanting one's address published in connection with having a CCP might conclude that persons who carry concealed firearms are at greater risk of being burgled by those looking for firearms. It could be akin to posting a neon sign on the roof, "Guns HERE!" Concealed means CONCEALED; announcing you are packing is antithetical to the intent of the permit.
Another reason might be that if a person was trying to become invisible to a potential source of harm (think, abused wife / girlfriend, for example) and obtained a CCP as an additional layer of protection beyond that oh-so-powerful restraining order, said person would lose that element of invisibility if her address were made publicly available merely by attempting to protect herself.
I'm sure there are other scenarios under which keeping CCP information nonpublic makes sense for law abiding citizens who lawfully exercise constitutional prerogatives.
I'm having a harder time cogitating the valid reasons for why it serves the public good for that information to be publicly available. The police already have access to that information, should it be needed. Why does Nosey Nellie need it as well?

Just like the New Yorkers who were terrified of having a terrorist trial in NYC although there are already over 250 convicted terrorists, convicted on the mainland (OMG!) in US mainland jails (OMG!). Maybe if the gun goes off accidentally, no one will notice the body lying in the chair since no one knows the person is a closet CCP.

      >> I don't need to pay for a permit to vote, or to exercise my 1st Amendment rights.

But you must "register" to vote, provide a proper ID. At a gun show you do neither to buy a gun.

Ever tried to hold a public demonstration without a permit? Good luck in 70% of
U.S. cities.

You'll find most cities require some type of permit to run a press and circulate the output.

To "petition" the government for grievances you must file and pay a fee.

      >> tell me how Oklahoma is going to be forced by Mooslims to vote in Sharia law!

We'll just do it piecemeal. Start with criminalizing abortion which Sharia forbids but Christianity, per se, does not.

Death penalty. Sharia strongly endorses death penalties. So do Christians so we're together hand in hand on that one.

Dress codes. Strict adherence to Sharia has dress and facial appearance codes. Public schools enforce the same in U.S. Dress codes included.

Mandatory daily prayer. Sharia endorses. U.S. public schools try harder and harder to overcome judicial restraints on official prayer. Some succeed. Mixed results on that one.

In my observation and oppinion, the fear comes from lack of education.

People express fear their freedom of religion is threatened if they can't use public property to tout their brand.

A proper Civics education would make these people understand that getting gov't involved in religion is the threat.

Just this morning Fox and Friends was crying that corporate sponsors of the Boy Scouts were pulling funding because the customers of the corporations were advising if they kept donating to the Boy Scouts they would take their business elsewhere.

That is freedom of speech of the customers and is not coercive since voting with your dollars is a right so basic even the Bill of Rights didn't mind mentioning.

But Fox & Friends was trying to whoop the old folks (Fox's audience) into a fear festival that "minorities" were trampling their rights.

With a proper Civics education the viewers would know there was no right under threat.

Maybe the preference that homos be vilified was under attack, but no rights.

The same crazy fear that Sharia Law is going to forced on America. Just how the hell is that supposed to happen?

Again, lack of Civics education let that wacky fear get whooped up.

Someone please tell me how Oklahoma is going to be forced by Mooslims to vote in Sharia law!

A Civics education would let scared Okies understand that they elect state and national legislators that vote which laws to enact, alter or do away with.

Fear and stupid usually go together.

I've tried various routes, but links to the text of SB131 tend to get error messages. It is interesting that open records are okay for revealing the salaries of state employees, but hidden for other areas - Secret agreements the state has with corporations frolicking on public funds and the concealed weapon list. Do we see a trend?

What are the penalties for publishing the list if a concerned citizen were to download it, say, to a blog? Any hacker worth her salt should easily bypass state agency security walls. Are there legislators willing to stand up for their citizens and obtain the list?

It's not a right if you have to have a permit.

Why should I have to get a permit to carry a handgun anyway? I don't need to pay for a permit to vote, or to exercise my 1st Amendment rights. Why is this one singled out? Do people who do bad things with guns worry about a weapons charge while they're emptying their magazines into their victims?

This bill just adds yet another layer of secrecy in state government. Gun owners are not a privileged class, and neither are those of us who want to concealed carry our firearms. I didn't ask for this special treatment and I don't want it. As a concealed carry permit holder for six year I'm offended by this and those senators who voted for it should be ashamed of themselves for attempting to make secret something the public has a right to know.
