      <![CDATA[First of all, the officer didn't swim out there to chase the guy. He went out there and removed the idiot from the car. As he was attempting to pull the guy back to shore, the suspect pulled away and swam towards an island. Since the island was roughly the same distance from the car as the shore, the officer stayed with him. It's called saving a life. Big set of balls. Other officers swam out there as well but none made it to him in time. Water in that region of the river was around 38-42 degrees.

      <![CDATA[Why the hell did the cop swim out there?  Couldn't they have just kept a spotlight on him on the island until the water rescue people arrived?<br>

I mean, it's a cool story and I'm glad the dude got arrested and all, but that seems pretty friggin' dangerous for the cop to do.
