I'm going to be incredibly honest here, but men need to stay out of these decisions. I think the ones that are trying to make these rules are simply trying to buy votes. But if they have a mistress that gets pregnant, they'll be the first ones to ask the woman to abort.

Abortion is NOT an easy decision, nor is it a form of birth control for immoral women. It is typically a decision reached between a doctor and a woman that is pregnant. Trust me, I've been there.

So, let's say hypothetically, that I find that I found I have a child that has severe defects, that could survive, but would be incredibly disabled their entire life. So yes, I saved a life, but yet, on the other side, it would cost $50k a year to keep them alive for medical care and I won't be able to work as I'd have to take care of them full time. And since I'm not working, I don't have healthcare. Then the costs go to the state, medicaid, food stamps, etc. Which the people that are talking about this want to cut down on because they feel people are taking advantage of it.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

But straight up, Men - I love you, but this is not your decision. If you're worried about abortion, then get a vasectomy. Women typically take care of most of the birth control decisions, and sometimes they fail. But if they fail, you cannot fault us and make us suffer. All said 'Wrap It' or vasectomy and this will not be an issue.

It is obvious that neither Rapert or Mayberry give a damn about any of the potential tragic consequences that were pointed out to them by the doctor. I can only presume they think that if something, anything goes wrong with your pregnancy, then you should be allowed to die. Or maybe they think it is your duty to die. If these bills are allowed to become law, then no pregnant woman is safe in Arkansas. What next? "Rapert says genital mutilation is really good for women?"

What about women for whom it would not be right?* See a video about a Nebraska woman who was not allowed to terminate her pregnancy after the fetal sac ruptured here.
Arrrghhhhh. Forget about about paralysis or life threatening conditions. No matter what the statistics or potential outcome. Even if there are no fetal abnormalities. NO MATTER WHAT the situation is, it is a woman's decision. With a little luck there will still be some doctors left with whom she can consult. How or why the pregnancy occurred is NO ONE'S BUSINESS. Nor is the condition of the embryo or the fetus. Why is there no outrage about the emotional and psychological health prohibition in this bill? Mental health is health period. It is not a moral issue. It is a medical issue. I was one of those mothers of advanced maternal age and in spite of some serious challenges had a great result. I'm one of the lucky ones. It is not for me or anyone else to say what other women young or older should decide. This is a medical issue NOT a moral, political, or legal one. Jesus H Christ. It's infuriating even to have this discussion

To quote from the document linked below:

"Since routine ultrasound is not considered medically necessary as a component of first-trimester abortion, the requirements appear to be a veiled attempt to personify the fetus and dissuade a woman from obtaining an abortion."

The report from the Guttmacher Institute a policy brief on "Requirements for Ultrasound" by various states is dated February 1, 2013.
http://www.guttmacher.org/statecenter/spib…

The article I posted earlier was from December. I see that just yesterday that the Michigan house speaker ruled out a bill on forced transvaginal ultrasound. The article says "since even when that type of GOP-backed legislation doesn’t explicitly mandate a transvaginal probe, that’s often the end result. For the majority of women seeking an abortion within the first trimester of pregnancy, it’s too early for an abdominal ultrasound to be effective, so a doctor will have no choice but to use a transvaginal probe to fulfill the law."

It goes on to say "any measure that requires women to undergo an unwanted medical procedure... has nothing to do with ensuring women’s safety, health, or access to technology..."
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/02/07…

Our male state senators and representatives need to quit trying to legislate what a woman does with her body and worry about more important issues.

I've always wondered about "save the life of the mother." What if there is only a 25% chance mom will die?

What if mom already had three children and her death would leave them orphans?

What if the pregnancy wouldn't kill mom, but would leave her paralyzed, unable to take care of her other children?

These bill have nothing about the health of the mother.

I guarantee you that if a man got a diagnosis that he had a 25% chance of dying without a certain medical procedure, that procedure would never be outlawed.

Diddo that if a man would be paralyzed without a certain procedure, that procedure would never be outlawed.

If these knuckle draggers are going to legislate abortion I want them to put a percentage on when an abortion is allowed so every women in the state will know exactly how they view women.

I know there is a way to go but the South isn't America and the South will continue to wonder why they are last in everything until they throw the Taliban out of their state government.
Having lost faith in the AR legislature (and having several Senator emails bounce back), I called and emailed the governor's office today, requesting his veto if any of this dangerous, illegal crap makes it to his desk.
I let this quote speak for me:

"Once again, conservative activists have been successful in restricting women’s access to abortions by passing laws that they insist protect women’s health or safety. Anyone who believes that protecting women was actually at the root of this most recent legislation is, well, quite easily fooled. Protecting them from what? Themselves? Their own decision-making capability?

The paternalistic tone of recent state anti-abortion laws is evident to anyone who cares to look beyond the thin veneer of a press conference or a gubernatorial signing statement. Using the government to regulate women’s bodies – and what they choose to do with them – in accordance with a particular set of beliefs is the obvious motive. By regulating and taxing facilities that provide abortions out of existence, we’ll have fewer abortions, right? Wrong. We’ll have fewer abortions provided in clean, safe facilities by medically trained professionals. We’ll have more abortions done the old-fashioned way, and you need only to look at the tool your coat is hanging on to remember what that way is.

Michigan is just the latest casualty in the war on abortion rights. In obvious attempts to circumvent – if not effectively nullify – Roe v. Wade, states have been passing laws that are putting increased restrictions on a woman’s right to make choices about her reproductive health. The myth of the carefree woman who uses an abortion clinic like she uses a drive-through window, multiple times, with little or no thought about what she’s doing so she can get back to her life of obvious sin is just that, a myth. It’s also a judgment, one that the government has no business making, especially under the guise of “protecting women.”"

Full article here also discusses how the insurance prohibition did not get signed: http://polistew.com/2012/12/28/just-anothe…

There is also some good information here but it is nearly a year old so it is outdated by now! http://thinkprogress.org/abortion-restrict…

Let's hope that if any of these bills make it through the Arkansas legislature, that Governor Beebe will not sign them!

I repost this and wonder why so many suppossedely Arkansas christians elect to quote but not follow their bibical teachings.

The Biblical God is NOT pro-life, he advocates child murder, infanticide, child abuse and abortion:

I see so many retarded ass Christians talking about abortion being a crime against God. It’s not a wonder that they are hard pressed to find a conclusive biblical statement to corroborate their position. In their determination to control women they have been forced to rely on exceedingly weak sections such as “thou shall not kill”,”I kneweth thou in the womb” and their favorite: “When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman’s husband shall lay upon; and he shall pay as the judges determine. If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth...“--Exodus 21:22-24 The problem here is that the man who injures a pregnant woman in the process, shall repay her according to the degree of injury inflicted on her, not the fetus. I am often dumbfounded at how Christians can assume that abortion is wrong judging by these feeble verses when the Bible clearly advocates infanticide and many other atrocities against children and pregnant women. I can no longer allow such ignorance of the Bible and deem it necessary to expose the true agenda. I am tired of the many young Christians who are brainwashed by their clergy. They are only taught the “love and mercy” parts of the Bible and never bother to read what is not so openly preached . The Church thrives off of speaking in half truths and concealing their blood soaked robes. Of course my job as preacher of an Atheist parish is to give a sermon about those things that the Bible TRUTHFULLY commands. Here they are, god’s views on the unborn, the actions of righteous men” and god’s commands of infanticide and child abuse: (note-There are Torah verses in this list but I will not attack the Jewish faith for being pro-life since they are not rampant advocates of the matter.)
In the 1950's, my mom's best friend was told that her fetus had an IUD implanted its brain, that it would die but that there was nothing the Doctors could do because abortion was outlawed. The male doctor told my mom's friend to "just go home and pretend your aren't pregnant." Just pretend you aren't pregnant seems to be the solution Rapert and Mayberry want to force on women. My mom's friend was pregnant for 8 and half months when she finally had a miscarriage...That is alot of pretending when other people start to notice what are you supposed to say....Pretend you don't see that
