They never sampled me. Had they done so, I would have told them that I am satisfied with my personal situation, because I am pretty secure, don't have to worry about where the next day's grocery monies are coming from, etc. But I also would have told them that there are many, many working poor in Northwest Arkansas who do not have this security; that there are many families whose children go to bed hungry. I would have told them that there are many people working on hourly jobs, where employers make sure they use them less than 40 hours per week, so they can call them temporary, and thus avoid giving them benefits, including health insurance. Wal-mart is included in this category of employers. Are the Waltons really proud of this?

I would have asked them. "Did you survey these people," because they usually can not afford land telephone lines, over which surveys are usually conducted? I guess what I am saying is that if, by most, you mean 51 per cent, the survey may be right. However, I would like to hear how the other 49 per cent view their status.

      >>As I understand it, the Jones money is not dried up, but the investments don't cover the center's operating costs due to this low-interest environment we've been in for the past 4-5 years.

It's the real estate market too. The Jones Center was being funded by sales of tracts of land Bernice Jones' family estate holds in west Springdale. When the Bush Bubble popped so did funding.
Jones Center was also top heavy, too many chiefs, not enough injuns and that is being slowly corrected. Large donors needed jobs for their offspring or those connected.

Walton Foundation recently made a large donation to fill a current funding gap.

Chickenopolis' Chamber of Welfare doesn't see fit to help the Jones Center. Quality of Life is never a consideration for Chickenopolis leaders at the City Council. They do see fit to funnel ONE MILLION DOLLARS every four years into the Chamber of Welfare.

I should have said Walton "supported." They've made major contributions recently.

As I understand it, the Jones money is not dried up, but the investments don't cover the center's operating costs due to this low-interest environment we've been in for the past 4-5 years. Also, more people are using the Jones Center, so maintenance costs are higher.

I wasn't aware that Walton money financed that center. So is the Jones money all dried up?

Happy? How about oblivious? I'm sure that all those evangelicals think of themselves as happy, now that they have elected their gun fetishists, religious crusaders, and women violators to office. Home "schooling" their kids in biblical inerrancy, pseudoscience, and denial of climate change and evolution. Yeah, I think they're happy.
