For the record, Chris Wyrick's monthly salary was $13k in January 2012 and jumped to almost $19k by October. Another nice pay raise now, to give or take $23k a month according to ADG (they note however that they were not sure whether that was only the public portion of the salary).

@Sound Policy says "Every Arkansan is subsidizing the RF (Razorback Foundation) because such deductions costs us tax revenue." Really? Well how much revenue (Sales Tax) does the Razorback Athletic Dept produce for the State/Fayetteville/ Little Rock? You conveniently left that part out. It's not the years of abuse of welfare, it's not the years of abuse of unemployment benefits, it's not the years of abuse of SNAP benefits, it's not the years of abuse of Obama phones, it's not the years of abuse of Medicaid. It's that damn tax deduction for contributors to the Razorback Foundations that's killing us Americans. Give me a break!

Looks like arhogfan501 is seeing red! Guess he doesn't know that donations to the Razorback Foundation are tax deductible, meaning every Arkansan is subsidizing the RF because such deductions costs us tax revenue. We're all being shucked and jived for the benefit of the RF.

arhogfan501, surely you can convine those RF boys to shuck that charitable deduction thing so they will be set free. No more socialism (or is it communism, I forget?) as the cornerstone of the RF.

@Couldn't be better. How pathetic are you? All you do is sit on this blog all day every day blaming and bitching about crap. The Razorback Foundation is supported by private donations. The football program does not use a single penny of State money. What's your malfunction? My guess is you don't contribute or buy tickets, so how in the hell would you know what goes on in skyboxes? You don't. You waste hours of everyday making crap up. Here's an idea, what don't you do something productive like volunteering or get a job. A job is a great idea, maybe then you could afford a ticket in a skybox.

Durango, the numbers for money raised tell only half the truth. Many of these donations come with strings attached and actually cause the University expenses. It is difficult to quantify this effect because of the lack of accountability. But I have researched two examples:
1. The Department of Education Reform. Putting aside for a moment the fact that this is an "academic" department committed by design to a political ideology, which is a scandal in itself, let's look at the cost side. The department has seven professors who are among the highest paid at the University, on the order of $200k a year, despite very mediocre productivity in terms of classes taught and peer-reviewed publications. Even an impressive sounding 20 million endowment from Waltons and friends is not enough to pay for all that. This is NOT an academic department subsidized by a generous private donation - it is an ideologically motivated Walton foundation thinktank subsidized with public money. How much? I tried to find out through FOIA but only got stonewalling.
2. Endowed chair in petroleum geology. The petroleum industry donated 2 million for an endowed chair position in the Geosciences Department. The chair who got hired (who by the way had been a member of the department's external advisory board - two of the four search committee were also members of the external advisory board, and the University claims this does not constitute any conflict of interest) secured a $162k salary and $425k in startup money. You can imagine how far even 2 million will go at rates like that. This is essentially research wanted by and useful to the petroleum industry, again heavily subsidized by taxpayer money.

I don't know how representative these cases are but they illustrate the dire lack of accountability in that department. One of these days I'm gonna post the documents.

Perhaps, if any of the current group of legislators had any guts (so you know it won't happen), they could defund UAF until they become open about their finances. Of course, that would mean no free tickets to the booze-infested sky boxes so their church brethen won't see them hitting the bottle. (They would need to stay sober if they actually had to be seen with the regular people who can pony up that false ticket price to the Razorback Foundation for the right to by a ticket).

“Without football, the University of Arkansas couldn't raise any money.”

Truth be known, it’s not ALL about football up yonder in Fedvul. Much of the money raised has been designated for scholarships, library needs, renovation, new construction, diversity efforts, and so forth.

According to news accounts, the “advancement” folks raised $121 million in FY 2011 and $108 million in FY 2012, although the goal for last year was $103 million.

Last I read, they’d raised $62 million the first six months of this fiscal year, which is over half the current goal of $107 million. Not bad in these days when dollars are short for many.

Those good things said, ‘tis a pity Gearhart isn’t cooperating with the ArkTimes and the ArkD-G, and that the latter has had to file suit to get information we taxpayers (and alumni and donors) have every right to see.

Just can’t figure what’s going on in the chancellor’s head. A body would think Johnelle Hunt, UofA System president Bobbitt, or some of the trustees could talk some sense into a good man who is usually cool and level-headed.
