Those were the days when we had a MORAL SOCIETY.

I can remember elementary school back in rural Arkansas. If we had to divide something up or choose someone, we'd use that old tune "Eenie meenie miney mo / catch a nigger by the toe / if he hollers / make him pay / fifty dollars every day."

I can remember one snowy day when school was out and my parents had to work. I was about 12. My little brother and I put some bird food out in the yard, got our guns (I owned 2 or 3 by that time), and we must have shot at least 50 songbirds. White snow covered with red, blue, yellow, etc. feathers. Man, what fun!!!

I am pleased beyond measure to see the Arkansas legislature working hard to take us back to those halcyon days when our leaders were white, male and unafraid to take part in a little lynching if it was needed to teach a lesson.

And I'm certainly not advocating a "guns on campus" policy now. I'm just mourning the loss of innocence and the need for all the restrictions that are being debated now.

I wouldn't want to return to ALL of the conditions of my childhood and youth, but some features would be really nice.

That was a different time, a different culture, and a different morality, Sky. I never took my gun to school, but a lot of teen-age boys did, leaving them in the gun rack in the back window of their pickup trucks. I never had a pickup truck until middle age, so I missed that particular coming of age ritual, but it was all very innocent. How nice if we could return to that agrarian time, but as a famous American author said, "You can't go home again."

During WWII my uncle donated a Colt .45 pistol to the U.S. Army. In 1947 a wooden box arrived filled with wood shavings and his well greased .45 pistol along with a letter from the Sec of Defense thanking him for his loan.

As Sky noted, kids, those same young kids CBB claims cannot handle the responcibility of a firearm, were doing just that. You had kids that would handle a firearm responcibly. The constant is guns, the change is people. It isn't the guns you have to control as much as why are kids killing with so little provocation. Nobody wants to answer that question. There are people who will exploit these tragedies to push their own ideals. If you resist them, with facts, with arguments, with reason, you get responces like;

" Sick. Disgusting. Foolish. Insulting. Mean."

"Let us, after every senseless gun death at one of our institutions of higher learning hold up a large banner at the funeral saying: Republican Rep. Charlie Collins YOU BUILT THIS!"

"you must have a Talibaptist definition of "productive".

As if there was no merit whatsoever in letting people be prepared for a possible confrontation. There is more emotion than reason flying around. Perhaps the kids in our schools can be trusted with defending themselves. If I had a daughter in college, I would feel better if she were armed.

All this speak, of calling people with differeing views 'Talibaptist' only reveals a dark hypocrisy. Maybe the person you disagree with is not a hate filled religious zealot who believes women are best bare-foot and pregnent. But, not all that disagree with you feel that extreme.

In the zeal to show how hateful the opposition is, people often reveal their own hate.

Discussing real issues of self-defense should not devolve into a hatefest by either side.

Understanding Beebe is in a "no win" situation, at least he could take a symbolic stand against these bills.

Can anyone explain to me why Beebe, in his last term, has taken no firm stand or voiced any opposition to these bills? Is the guy looking at running for Federal office or something?

While the legislature is up for the "dismantling of freedom and common sense award" Beebe is in the running for the Arkansas "Pussy of the Year Award" in my opinion.

Why are the Republicans so hell bent on punishing the people doing the scut work of society? What makes Miller and his ilk think that you must be doing drugs because you can't get a job as a "property manager".
