When the exports start and the price shoots back up there will be renewed drilling. With that will come more pipelines and more compressor stations.

I'm betting that those compressors will fall under eminent domain as they are part of the pipeline too. Nobody should be forced to live with 2 miles of one of those noxious beasts.

Folks, the pipeline laying for this operation is pretty much done except for the shorter lines from new wells to tie into the larger lines. Not much of that going on now. And yeah they did a job on the landscape. Got one of the larger lines right next to our property. In some places, the lines strayed from the approved blueprint.

As for the future? Hey, at the peak they were running 33 rigs. Now, it's 13 in less than two years. There are only so many wells to drill.

They may have other ideas in mind.

Norma--most people would rather not see the 50's again. Yet there was wisdom. "Beware the military-industrial complex," Eisenhower said. And he sent the military to Little Rock. He started the interstate system. Unfortunately those are not the things the 50's are remember for.
I remember the 50's for a gross income of $2000. a year for our family of 3 in 1951. Retail of course. Maximum of $5000. in 1959, still retail for a family of 7. By the time we fled in 1966, we had lived in 8 states--Wisconsin twice--9 cities--at those rates, and Walmart was just appearing on the scene, leading to the demise of the five and dime. Talk about losers, retail makes them. Fear of change multiplies them. Religion thrives on fear. It's a vicious circle.

      Concerning eminent domain of pipelines.

Don't just think that it only means they come across your pasture and bury a pipe and spread grass seed over it.

In the Ozarks with the Boston Mountains and their rugged terain that can be some massive construction, alter creeks and change the lay of the land.

The route doesn't have to be the one with the least impact to landowners or land, but can be least costly to the pipeline co.

Then they can restrict what drives over it.

It can be quite a "taking", for minimal compensation.

      Norma,

While an investment banker back in the 70's we had a rah! rah! sales trainer that said, get you a bunch of money and see if that doesn't help with most of your problems. The problems it doesn't help with either get over or learn to live with.

Norma,

Those that have a "need" to be looked at have a twisted need.

That describes entertainers.

Troubled celebrities are so common it is alarming and beyond cliche. That "need" seems all consuming. I don't have much interest in celebrities beyond their talent and thus don't keep up with many but can rattle off a list of self destructive needy ones.

Charlie Sheen
Britney Spears
Whitney Houston
Lindsey lohan
All the Jersey Shore bunch
Ol Spanky or Barretta or whatever his name is.
Jim Morrisson
All the Housewives of NY, ATL, Vegas, ...
Marylin M.
and her wannabe
Anna Nicole
and on and on and on.

Think of all the celebrities that acheived fame and still felt empty, above, plus add the Scientology bunch. Tom Cruse and Jon Travolta and the like succeeded beyond their wildest expectations and found an emptyness still there so they tromped off into Wackytology looking for some fulfilment.

You tout your fabulousness and we all know that you still believe that you will finally be happy when I finally get "fill in the blank"! Grammy, Oscar, Wedgy, etc...

You see Norma, the reason you still "believe" is that you haven't succeeded and prooved the lie to yourself yet.

Just remember, those who are fabulous don't need to say they are fabulous, it would be obvious.

Those that WISH they were fabulous must tell everone.

I would think more and more are beginning to wish they voted for Linda Tyler and perhaps this will convert a few more that voting Republican is bad for your health and pocketbook because I assume that they wouldn't need to pay a landowner to destroy their property, knock down their fences, leave gates open, let their cattle and horses loose, and all of the other crap we put up with when they came through with their seismic cabling and testing. Maybe, he ought to add that someone on any pipeline crew must be able to speak English and we can quit putting all the Spanish signs on the gates to close and lock them.

Rapert and his ilk are the kind of people who will do anything for money and you can bet they're getting tons of money from outside sources or expect it any day. Psychopaths have no shame or mercy or compassion and coupled with low intelligence they're more dangerous than a pack of rabid dogs.
The decent people of Arkansas are under full attack from the creepy right. This isn't the time for silence or good manners! Good people better be writing their own manifestos and stand up mad as hell when any line is crossed by profit addicted rightwing terrorists. If you aren't mad already seek professional help.

If I understand this correctly, one could install solar panels and wind turbines at home, and sell the power back to the grid. And it doesn't seem to require condemning people's private property for the utilities' benefit, as Jason Rapert wants to do.

      Beward Republicans PERIOD.

The NYT had an interesting weekend story about how the GOP is stuck in the past, and how it's increasingly hurting them in elections. The story is linked-to in the article below, which succinctly summarizes the problem.

"Can the GOP be saved from its obsession with the 1950s?"

It made me think of Arkansas, and the South generally, and your right-wing GOP takeover and where it will inevitably lead.

It made me think of bloggers' comments on other threads: like YET ANOTHER MORBIDLY OBESE legislator, your Rep. Ballinger, and his totally unconscious hick envy of New York and California. (Believe me: nobody in either state ever thinks about, mentions, nor gives a shit about Arkansas.)

It made me think of still more A-T Blog comments, about Mindy McReady's suicide and how "fame and fortune" aren't the answer to happiness. ANOTHER vacuous hick comment, from those neither famous nor fortunate, that belies a certain kind of internalized envy.

Nobody ever said "fame and fortune" DID guarantee happiness. But the commenters felt it necessary to unthinkingly parrot some idiotic point.

People who commit suicide have obvious problems and need help: though, in fact, if people really want to commit suicide, they usually do it. (Another situation where well-meaning people are, again, in fact, often powerless to "help," no matter how much they want to or try.)

The truth is that "fame and fortune" DO in fact make (normal) people who work hard enough to attain them FAR happier, just as getting ANYTHING you want makes you happier. To claim the opposite is another of those false-humble statements so common to unthinking parrots.

What IS true is that neurotics are still neurotics, pessimists are still pessimists, self-destructives are still self-destructives, assholes are still assholes, nice guys are still nice guys, and optimists are still optimists after achieving "fame and fortune," but the fame and fortune don't have a fucking thing to do with it.

Watching the inevitable negative results of your GOP takeover is sad, because I DO have friends there. The negative results for Arkansas's future will be long-lasting.

But frankly, the rest of the country gave up on the South, and Arkansas, long ago because the place belligerently fights change, growth, education, improvement and joining the rest of the country.

So the rest of the country hurtles away from the ugly, hypocritical, racist, misogynist, homophobic 1950s mentality with the hyperspeed of technology and the internet, leaving the dying and already-dead Past (including that Old Time Religion, which underlies and subverts EVERYTHING) behind.

Now that you've got guns everywhere, to go along with your internalized rage and resentment at being left behind (entirely your own fault), the rest of us fully expect you to turn into the Middle East with a Mayberry accent and start suicide-bombing your neighboring equally-backward tribal rivals to death in the name of God.

Look at Texas: all a pipeline company has to do to gain "common carrier" status and access to eminent domain powers is check a box on the form they file at the Railroad Commission (which doesn't regulate railroads ironically) when they file for the permit.

Arkansas landowners, beware. Jason Rapert wants to take your property and give it to the interstate pipeline companies that want to pass-through our state. He wants to build a gas pipeline to export our natural resources cheaply to Communist China so they take more American manufacturing jobs, as they use government-mandated abortions for population control. Shame on you, Jason Rapert.
Political jujitsu.
