Citizen1,

If you can get AT&T on the line or even find where to call to complain, I will be greatly surprised. Admittedly, I have not used Comcast in three years and I detest them just about as much as AT&T and the maroons, but at least they used to have a phone number and answered it to take complaints about the service.

The only way I have found to complain to AT&T is to write the CEO at the corporate offices in Dallas.

RC has hit the nail on the head about the proposed video service act. It is an effort to take franchising authority away from local municipalities and grant it to the state. Municipalities are lined up to oppose it. We will see how much influence the Arkansas Municipal League has. Max, you should take a closer look at this bill.

Does not surprise me about Comcast. Comcast has been pushing its systems to be digital only for sometime--and nickle and dimeing its customers to death. And remember, if you don't use a Comcast DVR and want to use an old VCR, then you have to have one of these boxes connected to that device as well if one wants to record one channel while watching another.

For the price of renting those Comcast boxes in a year's time, one can purchase an antenna to receive OTA TV and ditch the cable company for locals (no converter needed for later model TVs with ATSC tuners). Unless you are an ESPN diehard, I don't see a reason NOT to cut the cord.

Although it is written in a technology-neutral way, the Arkansas Video Service Act is intended more for IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service like AT&T U-Verse than broadband cable operators like Comcast. AT&T wants all of their U-Verse territories to operate under a single, statewide franchise.

We dropped Comcast a couple of years ago because of surly Comcast reps. Even tho problems crop up with AT&T U-verse , the people on the phone are always pleasant and helpful. Costs keep going up and up, and have considered going back to Comcast but then I remember why we switched!

joanimal is right. Having a digital-ready TV (i.e. a QAM tuner) does not eliminate the need for a DTA. Comcast only provides a few channels over clear QAM, mostly locals. If you want to get the rest that are encrypted (TBS, TNT, Food, etc.), you will need a DTA, STB, or CableCARD-capable device.

Yeah, here's the problem...If you don't have an adaptor, transponder and/or a cable Box Comcast scrambles their signal...Even if you have a digital TV you have to have one of these devices since Comcast Scrambles their signal. I have two digital TV's and they could receive the digital signal without the transponder but no go for that....

I dumped Comcast late last year and went to ATT Uverse.

So far so good.

Even during the Christmas 12 blizzard I had service when all the neighbors were a week plus without.

A tree fell into my house and had the ATT and Entergy lines pinned on the ground under a couple tons of pine, as soon as power came on, I had internet and TV.

Neighbors all claimed to be changing but I hadn't heard if they did.

ATT is not any big customer service high point but is not as anti-customer as Comcast ALWAYS was.
