“ OBITUARY OF THE DAY: Durango no doubt caught this one.”

Dadgumit, Max, you stole my thunder. Was gonna put Aunt Bea’s obit on the open line tonight. My favorite parts:

“A dedicated reader of the Arkansas Gazette, she never embraced the merger with the Democrat, but read it cover to cover.”

“Her love for her students extended beyond teaching literature, grammar, and journalism. She invited many adults to her kitchen table and taught them to read and write. “

“[O]ne of her greatest honors was being asked by a committee of African American students in the mid 70's to deliver Rev. King's "I have a dream" speech at a black history assembly at England High School. She was both humbled and honored, and delivered that speech proudly and respectfully. She truly judged people by the content of their character rather than race, economic or social status.”

Would love to have known Carrie Mae Stell Austin of Monticello.

PS: Cindi, read your LTE in today’s paper. Splendid!

Mountaingirl, the 'right to life' movement is putting themselves in the same boat with the KKK and Westboro Baptist church, changing minds to the other direction with their hate of legal laws.

There are so many areas that could use their passion. One female in this world dies every minute from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. The infant mortality rate in this world is awful too. 16,000 children die daily from starvation-related issues. The females in violence and AIDs ravished nations could use so much help with contraception and more. I wish they've morph to a 'right to live' movement instead.

Ozarkrazo....good luck with your appointments today! Please be careful out there.

Continuous rolling thunder here....just one long rumble with only short periods of silence in between. It brings to mind the Cheryl Crow song. Two dogs (one 37 pounds and one 127 pounds) are trying to climb into my lap for assurance all will be ok. I'm a small person so this isn't working out very well.

High winds pushing all of the water falling from the sky sideways into the glass of the windows and doors. I can only see a few feet past my upper deck so I am not sure of the conditions past my porch, but if the noise is any indication, it isn't pretty.

Dish is out and the power just went out briefly, but is back on right now.

The persona keeps saying that there are just some females living among us you should never piss off. ;)

mountaingirl, up here overlooking the beautiful Middle Fork Valley, we have 30 degrees, too much wind, but very little in the way of anything accumulating, yet. The deck has a bit of ice, but the patio has none. We've had a few "showers" since 4:30 this AM and will probably get more rain than anything else. I'm hoping to be able to navigate to fateville this afternoon for an appointment with my cardiologist (and with our wine&spirits purveyor). The best to all brothers and sisters on the blog. illegitimi non carborundum

In the last couple of days we've had a massive ice storm, an earthquake in Manila, Arkansas and now severe thunderstorm warning in the state.

I think the lord is sending a messge to the Republicans in the General Assembly to BACK OFF.

It was a good day for my letter to the editor to be published by the Democrat-Gazette. With the voting on the abortion laws going on here and national attention to another stupid rape comment by a older male, the timing was great.

This issue isn't about whether abortion should be legal or not. It's about that movement refusing to accept the fact it is and terrorizing the ones who benefit from that legality, both legally and day-to-day in person and with their ridiculous screams. It's time for it to stop.

A solid sheet of ice up here on this mountain. It never got out of the 20s yesterday so everything that fell from the sky froze. Lots of thunder with more percipitation falling now. It looks like rain but it is only 24 degrees so it probably won't stay in rain form for long.
Hope all of the blog buddies are safe and warm wherever you might be.

It's always useful to point out what the founding fathers intended, like for blacks to be slaves or women not to have voting rights.

I have a firm rule that I will be snowbound at home rather than down in town, so this day is fated to be for an open fire, rereading the Lord of the Ring trilogy, and not even once souring my stomach by thinking about Arkansas politics.
