Thursday night had dinner with my sisters and mother at T.G.I. Friday's (mom's current favorite place to eat out besides Olive Garden). I had the sizzling garlic shrimp which was excellent. One sister had the onion soup and a side salad and she said the soup was very good. The other sister seemed to enjoy her wedge salad. Mom had some creole pasta dish that was tasty but I don't think I'll go out of my way to order it....though I will order that sizzling garlic shrimp again. Most definitely.

Marie's Milford Track does some good food, but they only have a daily special, a couple of regular menu items (which is really food for people working out at the gym), and some great healthy pizza.

@DW, Lupitas fried catfish was really REALLY good. The fillets are large, thick & very clean tasting. The coating is well seasoned, crunchy golden & not greasy or mushy. You get a choice of 2 or 3 pieces, plus 2 sides , Texas Toast, homemader tarter sauce & a wedge of red onion. I asked for salsa & lime wedge & they cheerfully cut an entire lime into wedges & gave me all of it. BTW-their lunch special on Tues. is tamales. Beef, chicken or pork. The owner said come early for them, cuz they sellout by noon.

Several interesting dining experiences this week. The highlight was the Pantry Pie at, yes, the Pantry. A large dish of rich beef done almost beef burgundy style, topped with creamy mashed potatoes and baked shepherd's pie style. Brought half of it home for lunch the next day. And it's only $8.99. Incredibly tasty comfort food. Had never been to Marie's Milford Track that fronts the gym in the same strip center on Markham where Chip's is. They tout healthy food, and while my chicken and rice casserole (the daily special) might have been healthy, it wouldn't have been healthy for me to eat the four pounds of so of it that filled my plate. This one turned into three meals. Was better at home when the sweet wifey herbed it up a bit, put some grated cheese on top and reheated. Had a good lunch at Copper Grill, the ultimate "see and be seen" downtown lunch spot. Cup of very well done chili followed by the thematically disconnected sushi-grade seared tuna appetizer, which is almost always my main course there. Love that dish.

Haven't been to Rosalinda's in a long time and yes it is Honduran. I need to go back as I loved it. The yucca root was good as an appetizer and I could have eaten tons of plantains--yum (the ripe kind) I actually had fried chicken which was good. My companions loved the shrimp soup that was steaming hot and humongous. The shrimp were not shelled so that made for an interesting time with the heat.

@Raven, Honestly, that chicken and dumplings could be the only thing they sell from the truck and it would still be one of the best food trucks I've ever eaten at anywhere.

Also, the chicken tenders at Franke's make it worth a visit. The rest of my food there was average, but those tenders were very good.

Go to Mr. Chen's, Asher @ University in the Village Shopping Center. You'll be glad you did. Try the Crazy Spicy Chicken (it's spicy, but not crazy spicy), or my all-time favorite dish there, the name of which escapes me. But it consists of those super thin rice noodles, fried with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Lord. Mmm-mmm.

You have to enter the grocery store and make a quick left into the restaurant. Some food sissies may be turned off by the fishy smell you can't miss when you walk into the store, but you don't notice it once you're in the restaurant.

After you eat your meal is the time to wander the aisles of the store. Lots of interesting, authentic Asian stuff in there.

Seriously, try this place. The food is not the run-of-the-mill Chinese-American fare you get at a million other places in town. It seems authentic, at least to me.

Had pupusas at Rosalinda's on JFK this week and they were good. The rice and beans (mixed together, not separate portions) was outstanding. I'm not sure what they do with their cabbage, but I really like it. It's still really really good as lunch leftover. Can't wait to go there again.
Had chili and a grilled cheese yesterday from The Food Truck and it was really good. Perfect for a gray, rainy day. Their seasoning is different from what I normally do at home, but very good.

The unfortunate, but not unexpected demise of the kitchen stove last weekend, meant I had to eat out this week. A lot. And I liked it.

Tried Lupita's on Cantrell, just past the old location for The Hop. They are more authentic than TexMex, no cheese dip or basket of chips/salsa, but they had a good plate of carnitas for the lunch special. A few American items on the menu, including some excellent fried catfish with choice of rice & refried beans or coleslaw & fries. Lunchbuddy had the chicken Torta & it was huge. The salsas we tried were all homemade, fiery & delicious.

Chicken fried steak at Sweet Soul, real mashed potatoes & white gravy, a yeast roll that was perfect. This is a big hunk of cubesteak, pounded even bigger & breaded, then fried to a yummy crispy golden brown. Went back the next day for lunch again & tried the catfish. It was ok but smaller fillets than Lupita's & somewhat mushy. The jalapeno cornbread was great.

Igibon for lunch the next day & returned that night for dinner! Beef Udon soup was great, rich broth with thick chewy udon noodles, broccoli florets, snow peas & carrots mixed in a portion big enough for 2. Honey-bunny tried the spider roll & shrimp tempura & was happy with both. I tried the previously recommended Chicken Teriyaki & split some shumai. We had way too much for 2 people & took home lots of leftovers.

We usually avoid all the chain's, except that it's LobsterFest at Red Lobster, and ya know, the stove is broke, so off we go to seafood differently. I was surprised, it was good. The Lobster Lovers Feast, a small Maine tail & a split rock lobster tail, with all the trimmings. Plus those yummy biscuits, salad & steamed broccoli.

Oh yeah, BurgerKing has coffee for $0.25, didn't eat there, just the coffee :)

All right, it looks like I'm going to start the comments this week! Can't share anything really stellar, but did try out the new Downtown Market and Deli's Hunt Brothers pizza and I gotta say, not bad! It was better than I was expecting for essentially gas station food. Their supreme includes banana peppers and added a real nice tang. I didn't get to personally go to the market to give anymore details (it was brought to work from a coworker), but I'm curious how much deli is in their deli, as in, do they make sammiches. Anybody else in the downtown area have a chance to try this place out?

Also, I've had a love/hate affair with New Fun Ree since I moved to Little Rock and they were on Kavanaugh (that is the same folks, isn't it?). When they were there, it was hate, now I'm finding the love. This week I tried out the Singapore Chow Me Fun and Bean Curd and Vegetable soup and was blown away. I think I'm going to have to order some more of the non-standard chinese fare to really get what I'm wanting out of them.
