I'm rather fond of ordering a sweet potato pancake paired with a chocolate chip pancake. Bacon or ham on the side works; it's your call. And, if you want to splurge, a glass of muscadine juice is always nice.

I agree with the OCK write up. They have a bunch of things that are good but I have never been blown away. The Sweet Potato pancakes are interesting because they are chunks of sweet potato instead of sweet potato blended into the batter.

I'm glad to hear it, but I have to wonder if that would have been public knowledge if I hadn't raised a fuss. As it stood, the only thing the blog readers saw was a rebuke of walker22, who had contributed to this blog many times, while the person whose posts only serve to make fun of another contributor publicly suffered no consequences.

A simple "Thanks for the comment, we've taken care of the situation. Let's try to keep thread derails to a minimum" is the response I would have expected from a moderator of this blog. A snippy response from a mod to a legitimate concern can disenfranchise readers and discourage people from posting, in my opinion.

To answer your question, Michael, yes I do have an opinion on Ozark. While I agree that their pancakes are great (and huge), I am more an eggs for breakfast kind of person. (But I still have a couple of bites of sweet potato pancakes if my companion orders them). I usually find myself ordering a la carte since I don't like the biscuit and gravy that come with the country breakfast. And I've found that the ham steak is a bit salty for me so I stick to sausage or bacon.

SOS rules, but true SOS was a military creation I believe. When I was in the Navy the Galley served it every morning and it consisted of ground beef and not dried chipped beef from top round steak. It was really good and was a satisfying meal to last you for hours.

Michael, I think walker22 has a valid point. Are you going to be consistently snarky to everyone who posts a comment not directly related to the restaurant being reviewed? If so, when will we get a comment about the chipped beef? You know, because it's not related to OCK either. It doesn't bother me in the least, but since you seem to have such a problem with thread derailment...

This is not directly related to Ozark Country Kitchen, but I wished I could get some Creamed Chipped Beef here in AR. I know it's not a southern breakfast staple but I really miss this from back home. It's my all time favorite comfort breakfast meal. Served over toast with home fries on the side.

We are all here commenting and reading on this blog because we have one thing in common- We love food. And we love sharing our findings with others. Food brings people together across political lines and religions. However, its in poor taste to use a petty attempt at humor at the expense of someone else.

For those that haven't caught on, I'm referring to the commenter that someone has hilariously named "Tak Nobinsor". Doesn't take a genius to see that someone is taking jabs at Kat Robinson. I saw it the last time you commented and held off on saying anything. But since it was posted for a second time I'm not going to keep quiet. Its tacky and not funny. This blog is what it is because of the work she put into it. Thank you, Kat. Now lets try to not ruin it.

Yeah, the gravy here was pretty bad. Pancakes made it worthwhile.

Gravy is pretty damn simple: fat, preferably bacon or sausage; flour to make a roux; milk; sausage chunks. If the sausage is seasoned right, you don't even need salt and pepper (although they're good to have on hand).

Best sausage gravy in town for me is The Food Truck -- catch him for breakfast at the Hillcrest Farmers Market most Saturdays.

I chief complaint with most of the breakfast places I try in LR is that the gravy lacks sausage. I like real sausage gravy and biscuits. I'm not a fan of straight on white peppered gravy on anything.

If I balance my good OCK breakfast experiences with my bad ones, they're probably just about even. Like Mordy, I'd sooner cook at the house. I make a decent omelet, and I always have homemade bread on the weekends available for some fine toast--French or regular.

What I really look for in a breakfast place is gravy and theirs is clearly from a packet. It's really disappointing and just can't bring myself to go back. Of course, that does bring up the question...where DO you get good gravy, specifically good biscuits and gravy if you don't want to make them yourself?

After too many visits with mediocre food (Raw onions in my veggie omelet! Yum! Stale biscuits! Yay!), bordering-on-rude service, and higher prices than I'll pay for the aforementioned, Ozark Country Kitchen is off our list of breakfast restaurants. I'd rather cook at home.
