"Congress is saying NO because Obama has inflated spending up to and maybe over 18% for almost all government departments."

larock72, you do remember that spending bills originate in the US HOUSE don't you? They aren't up 18% under President OPbama. Nothing is up because to go up, the budget has to go through. The government is operating on continuing resolutions. Now Defense is up 40% or more since 2001 due to Bush's wars. The problem isn't overspending, it is failure of the House and Senate to recognize that the US was once a major power and all the cutting is making us a laughing stock. We can't keep our roads up, our bridges sometimes become one-way elevators, the electric grid system is wearing out and isn't ready for the 1990's much less the 2020's or beyond and we still have people who are so terrified of science and real world data that they will put the country back to 3rd world status. Those people are called TEA PARTY REPUBLICANS!

      Good news?
Went to let one of the dogs in last night and she failed to come when called. And called. And called. Trekked the back yard in the mud to no avail, with heart in throat figuring she had, for the second time, made her way out of the fence, and being a mostly black Lab/Aust Shep mix, I knew finding her in the dark would be impossible. Dreaded the conversation to come with the wife, who was travelling to the funeral of her oldest friend. That goofy-@$$ dog is her baby, esp now that RAV Jr is a fully developed teen boy, wise beyond his years.
Came in the house to get my keys and go look, when of course I spied her in her bed curled up next to the heater. If she heard me call for her she obviously was too comfy to come see what the crazy old man wanted.
Crisis averted.
Also on the good-news front, RAV Jr has completed all requirements for Eagle Scout, save his soon-to-be-held board of review. Proud of my future Eagle!
So that's my something good. Still waiting to hear if I will be furloughed from my DoD job. Hey, what's 20% of your salary?

The Health committee was told that Rep. Leding's HB 1396 only applies to underground petroleum storage tanks. That appears to be untrue -

(9) "Regulated substance" means:

(A) Any substance defined in section 101(14) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, but not including any substance regulated as a hazardous waste under Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976; and

It seems to me that definition could include chemicals like the Whirlpool solvents that contaminated a large area of a residential neighborhood in Fort Smith recently. Potentially, it could transfer liability for Whirlpool's leak to the homeowners.

Mediterranean diets reduce your chances of heart disease and strokes.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/26/health/m…

About 30 percent of heart attacks, strokes and deaths from heart disease can be prevented in people at high risk if they switch to a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil, nuts, beans, fish, fruits and vegetables, and even drink wine with meals, a large and rigorous new study found.

The diet helped those following it even though they did not lose weight

One group assigned to a Mediterranean diet was given extra virgin olive oil each week and was instructed to use at least 4 tablespoons a day. The other group got a combination of walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts and was instructed to eat about an ounce of them each day. An ounce of walnuts, for example, is about a quarter cup — a generous handful. The mainstays of the diet consisted of at least 3 servings a day of fruits and at least two servings of vegetables. Participants were to eat fish at least three times a week and legumes, which include beans, peas and lentils, at least three times a week. They were to eat white meat instead of red, and, for those accustomed to drinking, to have at least 7 glasses of wine a week with meals.

They were encouraged to avoid commercially made cookies, cakes and pastries and to limit their consumption of dairy products and processed meats.

American consumers, meanwhile, grew more optimistic in February as the prior month's worries about a broad tax increase faded.
Good news? Well, we survived that nasty wind all day and the 1.2" of rain that came down yesterday. The 16 lambs in the pen are back playing follow-the-leader up the side of the hay bale and back down and the momma ewes are just lying back and saying give us some relief from yesterday and nursing. As the lambs get bigger (a couple already have 1" horns), the moms will start walking away as the lambs are nursing. The lambs are already mouthing grain and hay. The last set of twins are so small that I keep loosing track of one as he/she gets directly under momma when he/she is nursing. They will be kept separated for a while due to size. This is the best time of the year to be a shepherd.

I awoke this morning, 7:30 or so. Checked outside, and yes, sure nuff, the DemGaz carrier had left another paper (canceled my subscription 2 1/2 months ago. Yesterday it was on the doorstep. Today just in the driveway. I will journey to the shed, select implements of destruction that will be effective when battling honeysuckle and other assorted unwanted plants that have been allowed to exert their influence on my small plot of earth. With the snow, ice, rain, etc. I'm hopefull enough moisture has been put back (making the destruction of above uwanted varieties easier to battle and bring home a rootless victory) no unwanted roots and stems shall survive. I am fired up and resolved that all that menace the plot will find a temporary home in the wheel barrow and will ultimately be disposed of in the woods. If this seems inconsequential to most of you, I have made some pretty dramatic strides since being struck down with the norovirus, with my legs being rendered useless for a couple of days. For a few hours after falling3 or 4 times ankle, knee and hip were bruised, cracked, or otherwise bent in ways heretofore unknown to this human. The good news is, I survived and am improving day by day. I hope we all strive to improve everyday, although I must confess to bouts of laziness from time to time. I hope everyone has a great week.

"Tell us something good" you say. I want remember a great man today with quotes from his 96 years on this earth. On 2-25-13 we lost a great man when we lost Dr. C. Everett Koop. I have written over and over the last few years quoting Dr. C. Everett Koop and his good friend Francis Schaeffer. They both came together for the first time in 1973 when Dr. Koop operated on Schaeffer's daughter and as a result they became close friends. That led to their involvement together in the book and film series "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?" in 1979.

In the film series "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?" the arguments are presented against abortion (Episode 1), infanticide (Episode 2), euthenasia (Episode 3), and then there is a discussion of the Christian versus Humanist worldview concerning the issue of "the basis for human dignity" in Episode 4 and then in the last episode a close look at the truth claims of the Bible.

In this 1979 film series they dealt with the big social issues and predicted what social problems we have in the future because of humanism. For instance, they knew that the Jack Kevorkians of the world would be coming down the pike. They predicted that there was a slippery slope from abortion to infanticide to youth euthanasia brought on by the materialistic worldview.

Actually I have written the President several times about abortion and have received several responses from the White House. In several of the letters I emailed to the White House I included links to the episodes of "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?" and in one letter I included the article Francis Schaeffer and C. Everett Koop’s Invaluable Impact on Pro-Life Evangelicalism written by Dr. Richard Land from 2003.

I have received several form letter responses from the White House and the most popular goes like this:

Thank you for taking the time to share your views on abortion. This is a heart-wrenching issue, and I appreciate your input and thoughts.

I am committed to making my Administration the most open and transparent in history, and part of delivering on that promise is hearing from people like you. I take seriously your opinions and respect your point of view on this issue. Please know that your concerns will be on my mind in the days ahead.

Thank you, again, for writing. I encourage you to visit www.WhiteHouse.gov to learn more about my Administration or to contact me in the future.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

______________

Sanctity of Life Sunday began in 1983 when the Christian Action Council (now known as Care Net), founded with the help of Francis Schaeffer and former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, “asked President Ronald Reagan to create a special day to focus on the intrinsic value of human life.”

In the film series "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?" in the first episode "Abortion of the Human Race" Dr. Koop takes on the lies of the abortion crowd. One of those lies is that abortion will keep down child abuse numbers. Child abuse has been rising dramatically in the last forty years.

In 1972 there were 60,000 reported child-abuse incidents in the U.S. In
1976, the number had soared to over 500,000! Child Abuse is now the fifth most frequent cause of death among children. (Francis Shaeffer and Dr. C. Everett Koop, “Whatever Happened to the Human Race?”, Crossway Books, Westchester, IL., )

At the 32 minute mark in the episode you will see Dr. C. Everett Koop make this comment (in 1979):

There are those who try and justify abortions by saying that abortions get rid of unwanted children and therefore will cut down on child abuse, but consider this, since 1973 there have been 6 million abortions in the USA and there are therefore 6 million fewer children than there would have been without the liberal abortion ruling and yet child abuse has increased in incidents year by year from that date.

Dr. Koop went on to point out concerning the Hippocratic oath:

The graduates of American medical schools have traditionally taken the Hippocratic oath, which goes back more than two thousand years at the time of their commencement. The Declaration of Geneva (adopted in September 1948 by the General Assembly of the World Medical Organization and modeled closely on the Hippocratic oath) became used as the graduation oath by more and more medical schools. It includes, “I will maintain the utmost respect for human life; from the time of conception.” This concept for the preservation of human life has been the basis of the medical profession and society in general. It is significant that, when the University of Pittsburgh changed from the Hippocratic oath to the Declaration of Geneva in 1971, the students deleted “from the time of conception” from the clause beginning “I will maintain the utmost respect for human life.” The University of Toronto School of Medicine has also removed the phrase “from the time of conception” from the form of oath it now uses.

_____________

There is a question that I have asked pro-abortionists over and over and they just don't like answering it. It comes also from the first episode of "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE." Dr. Koop put forth the question:

My question to the pro-abortionist who would not directly kill a newborn baby the minute it is born is this, “Would you have killed it a minute before that or a minute before that or a minute before that or a minute before that?” You can see what I am getting at. At what minute does an unborn baby cease to be worthless and become a person entitled to the right to life and legal protection?
