The only reason for any of the current voter ID bills in state legislatures is to suppress Democratic voters. The model for the Arkansas bill was probably drafted by ALEC. The sponsoring legislator may very well be an ALEC member, but nobody knows because its membership roster is secret.

Just like Americans for Presperity, the sham Koch brothers-funded group that presented itself as a grassroots organization, ALEC works for the intererests of big corporate and multi-national sponsors, helping to draft bill models which are then handed down to conservative state legislators who in turn present them as grass-roots work.

ALEC is known to have drafted voter ID laws. It has drafted anti-immigration laws to help the private prison industry, gun rights laws to help arms manufacturers and anti-environmental laws to help energy companies. It gets roughly 200 laws passed every year.

Arkansas legislators should be serving Arkansas constituents, NOT corporate overlords.
