This law will force women to carry fetuses to term even when, due to severe abnormalities (lack of developed vital organs, etc) the fetuses have zero chance of survival.

Hiding behind the guise of being Pro Life and calling these women baby killers is disgusting.

I've lived the nightmare.

Thanks to this law, many more men and women will get to experience it in an even more gut-wrenching way, as the inevitable is delayed and intensified.

But, at least our self-righteous, hypocritical legislators will be able to strut around and act like they're saving lives.
If I were to guess, it could be simply because Frank figured out that "...liberty and justice for ALL" "ALL ... are created..." and The Golden Rule were perfectly fine moral compasses and didn't need all the baggage attached to what passes for religion - sorta like the current bullshit that passes for patriotism; both corrupted by insular goober-inspired conformity to myths.
Interesting how much criticism of this bill is tied to the presumed legal cost of it being challenged. A nearly identical bill has been upheld by one federal court for Arizona. The ACLU (or anyone else with a legal question) could easily watch that appeal and decide not to challenge the Arkansas law unless that bill or a similar one is also found unconstitutional by a different or higher federal court. If that bill is found to violate Roe, Doe, and Casey then a suit could be brought in Arkansas and at almost no cost would fall in summary judgment. So the only ones costing our state money with a lawsuit would be those filing what amounts to a frivolous (certainly redundant) suit to that already under consideration. (And I'm not sure they really want to pick the 8th Circuit as their venue anyway.)

The person using the username "Larry" said, "As to Francis Schaeffer (dead): all you need to know about him you can find out from his son Frank (alive), who has had his own Epiphany and reveals the TRUTH about both his dad and the Religious Wrong!
http://www.frankschaeffer.com/ "

I had several opportunities to hear Frank speak in Little Rock in the 1990's but I always passed them up since it was so painful to read the hateful things he had said about his parents. The one thing that I don't understand about Frank is what theologically made him move away from the evangelical view. It seems to me that maybe he left because of some of the conceited leaders of the religious right that he met. (I know that several of these do exist because I have run into some myself.)

I am sure you have heard of the book "Crazy for God" by Frank Schaeffer. Dr. Douglas Groothuis is professor of philosophy at Denver Seminary and in his review of "Crazy for God" said the following:

But the book never makes very clear just why Frank rejected the evangelical faith of his parents. He certainly dishes out much dirt about his family’s foibles and sins, while also praising them in some respects, such as their genuine compassion for the many -- and often difficult -- visitors to L’Abri over the years. “Dad’s sensitivity was disarming,” he writes. “Bishop Pike, the famous self-proclaimed liberal minister and writer, told me that my father was one of the most compassionate men he ever debated. And after Timothy Leary had several long discussions with Dad, he said, ‘If I thought your father is typical of other Christians, I’d reconsider my position’ ” (78-79).

Frank also reveals some of the bizarre underbelly of high-profile Christian personalities and his (and his father’s) disgust over this. (But despite the book’s promotion material, there is really very little given on this topic.) However, what is lacking is any cogent explanation for why he left the faith of his parents -- beyond a few remarks about his various doubts along the way. He does rightly point out that evangelicals are too celebrity-oriented and lack a rich liturgical tradition. But that in itself is no reason to deny historic Christian claims, since one could abandon evangelical-dumb and become a high church Lutheran, Presbyterian, or Anglican. Sustained glibness does not make for a compelling account of losing one’s faith....Although Frank claims that he influenced his reluctant father to embrace the pro-life cause, he now has second thoughts on the matter, believing that young fetuses are not sufficiently developed to have a legal right to life equal to adults or to more developed fetuses. This means he believes that some circumstance -- apart from protecting the life of the mother -- warrant abortions, although he does not support abortion on demand. Just as Frank was impetuous in his previous pro-life views (jolted into the position through his awed response to the birth of his first child), so his less consistent view is asserted without any genuine argument. Fetuses are every bit as human as anyone, and ranking human value by stage of development is both unbiblical and socially dangerous.

Don't know about big, little, in between, etc. advertising money, but this is the first time I've agreed with a statement you've made.

arhog - I don't know whether you are male or female, but your 'solution' leaves the male out of the equation. Paternity can now be identified in utero. When the male half of the population starts taking responsibility for the babies they produce the 'problem' will go away. Do you see that happening any time soon?

LiberalRepublican, many of us have a different viewpoint on abortion. Many of us have arrived at that viewpoint from a Christian perspective. Over half of the adult population supports a woman's right to an abortion.

Since both science and religion support abortion rights and the majority of Americans support abortion rights and the U.S. Supreme Court supports abortion rights, why does the minority want to force their views on the rest of us?

If you feel it is wrong, you are within your rights not to have one. You are not within your rights to force your views on the rest of us.

That it costs the state inordinate amounts of money to defend a clearly unconstitutional law is of no consequence to them, in spite of claims they are for less government. Other than in the mind of recent troll, Recreational Abortion does not exist.

Lib Rep

If you wish there not to be abortions then economic opportunities for prime breeding age women need to be provided.

A minmum wage that allows a full time worker to survive is required or women with unplanned pregnancies will feel they have no options except to abort. The prime breeding age females are also in the low earning years.

A college education that doesn't end up with massive personal debt allows a young family to not resort to abortion to delay a family.

Health care coverage, or its lack for the same prime breeding age young women and families has the exact same outcome.

Abortion.

On a different aspect of the same issue, I just shake my head in disbelief when I hear the disconnect between some white middle class lamenting that the white majority is disappearing.

The best source of future educated citizens comes from current college educated citizens having children and more of them. Currently we have set up an economic reality where a recently college educated citizen is under so much debt that a family is much delayed PLUS much reduced.

It matters none to me if I am in a group that is a majority or minority if we have freedom and equal treatment but some get all concerned. Maybe they think the new majority will crap on him when they get the numbers like his group crapped when they had the numbers.

So Lib Rep,

No body likes abortion or hopes for it, (Recreational Abortion) but your desire of no abortion can come much closer to reality by using your other view of fair economic opportunities for all than by a ban. In my oppinion.
