Bluegrass fans will be well served in Mountain View this weekend with the Ozark Folk Center’s “Tribute to Grandpa Jones Concerts” on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2-3. Ricky Skaggs, credited with helping bring the original bluegrass form back to popularity in Nashville, will perform in concert on Friday with Ramona Jones and the Jones Family Band. Tickets are $30. The Del McCoury Band is Saturday’s headliner. McCoury and his group have been stars at such festivals as Merle Fest and Bonnaroo and have brought bluegrass music to a wide audience by playing college-age rock clubs and sharing the stage with popular jam bands Phish, Leftover Salmon and Yonder Mountain String Band. Tickets are $25 for Saturday’s show, and Ramona Jones and the Jones Family Band will perform Saturday, as well. The Washington Post called the 66-year-old McCoury, who joined the Grand Ole Opry in 2003, “a national treasure.” He sings and plays the guitar while sons Ronnie and Rob play the mandolin and banjo, respectively. People magazine said McCoury’s “bluegrass virtuosity remains as stunning as ever.” Showtimes both nights are 7:30 p.m. in the folk center’s 1,000-seat concert arena. Grandpa Jones was a clawhammer banjo star and humorist who appeared at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry and was a weekly regular on the TV show “Hee Haw.” Call 870-269-3851.
