Bruce James Calls the Hogs, Oct. 26

Saturday’s game
No. 13 Arkansas (6-1 overall, 4-0 in SEC) vs. Louisiana-Monroe (1-6 overall, 0-4 in Sun Belt)
Site: War Memorial Stadium, Little Rock
Time: 6 p.m.
Radio/TV: The ARSN network will broadcast the game on radio affiliates. The game will be televised nationally on certain cable and satellite outlets by ESPNU.

What James says: Playing Louisiana-Monroe is a tiny step up from playing Southeast Missouri. The good thing about having a game like this at this time, the players won’t know this but the coaches will be preparing for South Carolina. You have to be real careful to avoid any major injuries in a game you’re not going to lose. Don’t worry about style points at all, just get the starters in and out, play your reserves, get the game won and get out of there. The whole month of November is what’s going to matter.

About the Warhawks: All I know about them is that Arkansas State beat them 10-6. I’m still confused how they are located in Monroe, La., but War Memorial Stadium is a home game for them.

Did you expect Arkansas to be 6-1 and ranked No. 13 at this point? I think for sure all of us thought they’d be 5-2 now. I don’t think many fans thought they’d beat Southern Cal and Auburn, but everyone expected that they’d win the rest of the games to this point, so there is nothing shocking here with the exception of the victory at Auburn. Winning so decisively at Auburn is what has gotten us the ranking we have.

Saturday’s pick: Arkansas, 38-10. I’m anticipating the Razorback coaches playing a lot of reserves.

This is the toughest call on a game since I’ve been picking them in these pages. I can find as many reasons why Arkansas could win as I can that South Carolina will win.
