Cartel at the Village

Georgia pop-rockers Cartel, who recently escaped from “the Bubble,” perform at the Village with local baroque pop act Latture and Nevertheless, 8 p.m., $16 adv./$18 d.o.s. The band spent 10 days inside a fiberglass bubble near the Hudson River in which cameras had been placed strategically to let fans watch as they recorded an album. Scheduled to stay 20 days, they got an early exit when strong winds knocked a piece of glass out after only 10 days. American Aquarium, the Raleigh, N.C., Americana outfit, performs with alt-country hero Cory Branan, who lives in Fayetteville, at White Water Tavern, 9 p.m., $5. Stacy Mackey hosts an open mic night at Bogies/Counterpoint, 8:30 p.m., free.

It's hard to imagine its appeal as a spectator sport, but undoubtedly hundreds will be on hand as Big Bass Bonanza kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Arkansas River. There's a $100,000 grand prize. The venerable Little Rock act Greasy Greens returns to the stage with the Crumbs at Cajun's Wharf, 9 p.m., $5. Pinky's New Band, Kuji Wright, DJ Greyhound and acclaimed trumpeter Rodney Block play “Funk Friday” at Juanita's, 10 p.m. Jazz pianist William Staggers plays the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $7. The regular “Divas in the Rock” concert returns, this time at Cornerstone Pub, with central Arkansas's most vibrant female MCs and R&B vocalists and special guests Razormack, Pimp Slap and Jenne, 9 p.m., $10. Local punkabillies Josh the Devil and the Sinners play Midtown, 12:30 a.m., $5.

Local party band Mr. Meaner plays Cajun's Wharf, 9 p.m., $5. Little Rock jam-band Free Verse plays Sticky Fingerz, 9:30 p.m., $5.

Decorated Arkansas musician Jack Mitchell brings his 15-piece swing/jazz band to the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, 3 p.m., free. Punk-rockers Down to Earth Approach come to Juanita's, with Ivory, Damiera and Treaty of Paris, 6 p.m., $8 adv/$10 d.o.s.

Improbably popular Australian children's group the Wiggles comes to Alltel Arena for a concert. Captain Feathersword, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus, Wags the Dog and all the Wiggle Dancers will be in tow.

Picture Bret Bielema pole-vaulting for a minute. Then, once the laughter subsides, hear me out with this absurd analogy.
