Get your green on
It’s still a month until St. Patrick’s Day, but you can get in the Celtic mood Saturday, Feb. 18, when the Arkansas Celtic Music Society presents its Celtic Fair at the Mabelvale United Methodist Church from noon to 6 p.m.

Baked potatoes and Irish stew will be available for purchase, and the entertainment will range from local Celtic musicians to Irish dancing from local dance schools to Irish wolfhounds and miniature horses. Children will have their own activity area as well as their own food menu. Arkansas craftsmen will present their wares; festival-goers can bid in a silent auction.

Advance tickets are available for $10 online at www.ARCelts.com, and the proceeds will benefit the society, which sponsors free music sessions and classes throughout Central Arkansas. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The church is at 10500 Woodman St. in Mabelvale.

Call 602-5508 for more information.

Discover ants
The Museum of Discovery offers an African-American Heritage Event this weekend when Dr. Patricia McGraw, a performer and humanities scholar, re-enacts real-life experiences from her book “Scattered Ants on a Bone.” McGraw will depict scenes from her life as a young girl in Arkansas in the 1940s and ’50s. McGraw will be at the museum Thursday through Saturday.

Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission prices are $7 for ages 13-64, and $6 for ages 65 and up and ages 1-12. Call 396-7050 for more information.

Rocking roundball
The Arkansas RimRockers roster is beginning to look like a 2005 all-star lineup from the Southeastern Conference with the recent addition of former Mississippi State star Lawrence Roberts and former Florida guard Anthony Roberson to the lineup, along with former Razorback Olu Famutimi. You can check out the new RimRockers look, which includes Andy Stoglin now in the head coaching seat after the firing last week of Joe Harge, in two NBA Development League games at Alltel Arena Thursday and Friday against Albuquerque.

Both games start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $10. Friday’s game will be a special night for families, with kids being able to meet SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer.

Call 975-4667 for tickets or more information. Tickets are also available through all Ticketmaster outlets.

More boats at Statehouse
These days, it’s boats at the Statehouse Convention Center one week, RVs the next. It’s back to the water this weekend when boat dealers roll in the trailers with floating craft galore — cruisers, deck boats, pontoon boats, ski boats, runabouts, jet skis and water toys, all for sale at the Arkansas State Boat Show. Also, 20 people will be chosen to compete to win a boat in a “hands-on” contest.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4. Children 12 and under are admitted at no charge. Free tickets are available at any Central Arkansas Wendy’s Hamburgers location. Call 525-1166 for more information.

Circus comes to town
Circus Gatti makes its annual trip to Central Arkansas with two shows on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Alltel Arena. Showtimes are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Admission is $19.75 and tickets are available at the arena box office or through all Ticketmaster outlets (975-7575, www.ticketmaster.com).

Circus Gatti offers a variety of circus animals that children and their parents can visit during intermission of each show, plus the usual performances of trapeze artists, clowns and more.

Trojans at home
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, fighting for a good seed for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference post-season tournament, will be home for games Thursday and Saturday at Jack Stephens Center on campus. The Trojans play perennial rival Western Kentucky University on Thursday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Trojans face Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m.

Tickets range from $8 in the end zone bleachers to $35 for club seating. UALR students get in free with an ID. Call 565-8257 for tickets or more information. The arena is on 28th Street between University Avenue and Fair Park.
