Collins to work toward increasing visitation to Arkansas by groups and promoting the state's appeal
St. Jospeh's Mercy Health Center
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The fourth annual Governor’s Family Friendly Employer Awards luncheon was held at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock on April 10 and St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center came away a big winner.
Fourteen employers were recognized at the prestigious awards ceremony, but Governor Mike Huckabee presented St. Joseph’s, the second oldest hospital in Arkansas, with both the overall Diamond Award and the Gold Award in the large-company category.
The ceremony annually honors the overall Diamond Award recipient and Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners in three different employee-size categories – large-company (over 500 co-workers), medium-company (50 to 500 co-workers) and small-company (under 50 co-workers). The overall Diamond Award recipient is selected from the three Gold Award winners, therefore signifying that St. Joseph’s is presently the state’s top family-friendly employer.
“We were very surprised and pleased with the awards we received,” said Randy Fale, St. Joseph’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our co-workers, though, are the ones who deserve the congratulations, because they designed many of our programs when we asked for their help. It takes teamwork to balance work and family life and we are excited the governor and many other organizations believe our approach makes St. Joseph’s a family-friendly place to work.”
Four years ago, in an effort to recognize Arkansas employers that provide resources to support co-workers in balancing the needs of both work and family life, Governor Huckabee established the Governor’s Family-Friendly Employer Initiative. Each spring since then, its mission has been carried out with the recognition of family-friendly employers. Employers nominated for the awards are asked to provide information regarding issues such as health benefits, work-time options and childcare assistance to the 18 partners of the Governor’s Family-Friendly Employer Initiative.
“Balancing work and family takes effort by both employees and employers,” Governor Huckabee said. “The initiative taken by the companies honored with the awards helps create a better quality of life for many Arkansas families. I’m proud these progressive employers call Arkansas home.”
A member of the Sisters of Mercy Health System, St. Joseph’s is a not-for-profit Catholic hospital, two-time recipient of the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ and winner of both the overall Diamond Award and large-company Gold Award at the 2006 Governor’s Family-Friendly Employer Awards ceremony.
