A venture to this state park is on the must-do list for many, the park being the only spot in North America where you can dig for diamonds and other gemstones and keep your finds.
Washington Regional Funds Elementary School Health Education
$41,000 Grant to Kids For Health© to Benefit Washington County Students
In its continuing commitment to improve the health of the communities it serves, Washington Regional recently donated $41,000 to purchase the Second Edition of the Kids for Health© curriculum for each elementary school in Washington County. Schools slated to receive the new updated materials are located in Elkins, Farmington, Fayetteville, Greenland, Lincoln, Prairie Grove, Springdale, West Fork, and Winslow.
When the Arkansas Department of Education updated the health and PE standards in 2005, the Kids for Health© curriculum was updated in order to cover as many of the new standards as possible. However, normal grant funding fell short of what was needed to purchase new books for Washington County Schools. When approached for assistance, Washington Regional quickly offered to help.
Washington Regional began its partnership with Kids for Health© in 1994 when it initiated the program in all 26 Washington County elementary schools. The goal of this partnership has been to improve the health of the entire community through a quality health education program for elementary age students. Through Kids for Health© lessons, elementary age children in each Washington County elementary school and their families have been provided with both the motivation and the education needed to make a lifetime of healthy choices.
Together, Washington Regional and the Kids for Health© program will continue to pursue a joint mission of providing a positive impact on the health of thousands of Washington County children and their families.
In addition to providing nearly $13 million in charity care in 2005 for patients experiencing financial difficulties, Washington Regional provided charitable contributions and grants to support other community organizations in excess of $675,000. These organizations almost always have a health-improvement related mission.
