  • 'How to decimate a city' — a big freeway

Reporting from around the U.S. continues to illustrate the folly of the Arkansas highway department and construction boosters like the chamber of commerce and Vice Mayor Lance Hines in advocating ever wider freeways through the heart of Little Rock. Syracuse, N.Y., is looking for a better way in a debate remarkably similar to the debate about widening Interstate 30 in Little Rock.

Re: “Pushback on City Board vote supporting school millage

What is so irritating, yet again, is that the city leaders think they can pull wool over people's eyes. Ms. Toro and Ms. Elliott are too smart for that. So am I. Take your snake oil, LR City Board, and peddle it elsewhere.

Re: “U.S. PIRG: 30 Crossing one of nine worst highway boondoggles

I feel like I'm negative all the time now -- what with 45 and all -- but this report will be the nail in the coffin of a better approach. Local decision-makers will now make SURE the boondoggle proceeds. Sigh.

Re: “Metroplan sets public hearing on 30 Crossing

I am happy for all roadblocks to this debacle. That said, I don't hold out any hope that at the end of it all the decision will be NOT to build the concrete gulch. Every time city/county/state decision-makers (with the exception of folks like Kathy Webb) have an opportunity to do the right thing, they inevitably do the wrong thing. If I'm ever so lucky as to win the lottery or come into $$ some other way, the first thing I'll do is move away from Little Rock, AR.

Re: “Constituents go Cotton pickin' at Springdale town hall

Thank you for this report. Regarding, "whether it will alter Cotton's behavior in the Senate a single iota remains to be seen" -- I predict it will not. Trump is a tool for the GOP. As long as he continues to lay out an agenda that parallels the GOP party line, the GOP senators will remain complicit. I hope the state Democratic Party is getting the ducks in a row for 2020. This includes finding $$ to fight Koch $$. Also, have seen many comments on twitter that he gets credit for showing up and staying cool. No credit from me for doing his job -- which, by the way, won't be completed until he holds forums around state.

Re: “Huge turnout for Tom Cotton town hall

You guys are all such nice people giving Tom credit for showing up and taking it. THAT'S PART OF HIS JOB DESCRIPTION. No kudos necessary for doing what he's paid to do.

Re: “Dumas: Reaction to Trump branding of press is overwrought

Well written piece, Mr. Dumas. But I think you're trying very hard to convince yourself that Trump "will be brought down by incompetence, ignorance and vainglory." I've been waiting for that ever since he first announced he was running for President and have been living in a state of horrified sorrow ever since. Trump is tool. He will continue to be enabled by the GOP as long as he continues to serve as a conduit for their interests which he seems to be doing very well right now in all his incompetence, ignorance and vainglory.
