A Bush blowback?
Hopeful news from the Washington Post:
Intense and widespread opposition to President Bush is likely to be a sharp spur driving voters to the polls in this fall's midterm elections, according to strategists in both parties, a phenomenon that could give Democrats a turnout advantage over Republicans for the first time in recent years.
Polls have reflected voter discontent with Bush for many months, but as the election nears, operatives are paying special attention to one subset of the numbers. It is the wide disparity between the number of people who are passionate in their dislike of Bush vs. those who support him with equal fervor.

Dream on. The hopelessly inept Democratic Party couldn't sell beer on a troop ship, let alone successfully exploit widespread disgust with Dubya. The Republican Party, Inc., will increase their majority in both houses of congress this November.

Maybe so but the repubs have a tough row to hoe. When almost half of the electorate (and creeping up) has strong disapproval of the shrub and the '20 percenters' run the risk of becoming 'the teeners', there is serious trouble in shrubbieland. Dang, even election theft gets alot more dicey with numbers in the cellar such as they are. Well, cheer up, Jesus may come soon or the Last Iman or whoever.

Those who still support Bush are those who put loyalty to party above loyalty to country.
Sad.

The last 6 months or so I have been witnessing something I've never seen before over here in Fort Republican, Arkansas. People 60, 70, and 80 years old who have never voted for a Democrat in their lives are suddenly saying they're done with the Republican Party.
It's going to be a bizarre election because these old folks probably won't be voting Democratic, but they promise me they sure as hell won't be voting for Republicans. They're telling me their party has been stolen and they've had it, so they'll vote Independent or just stay home.
Just to be safe I wish they'd sneak in and vote Democrat, but not voting Republican or not voting at all has to be the biggest Christmas present the Democrats ever got from this bunch.
Now keep in mind these are Fort Smith Republicans whose ancestors painted Vote fer Abe on the side of their cows in 1860. These people didn't leave on account Goldwater was flakey. They didn't run when Nixon was drummed out of the White House in shame. They would have given a major organ to Reagan. And they even acted like they liked Bob Dole. But huh uh.....even they can't stomach The Wonderful World of Bush.
I'm sure when the Bush faction is run out of the Republican Party these folks will come tip-toeing back. But they've had it with Bush and his extremely right wing, extremely stupid, extremely incompetent, extremely crooked, Republican Party of 2006. Halleluiah! I can see why they're called the Greatest Generation after all!

Why worry about national elections in Arkansas. In the 2004 election, Hawaii had the lowest voter turnout at 48% and Arkansas was next with around 50% turnout. It's obvious those two states rejected both Bush and Kerry.
Nationwide, 78 million registered votes did not cast a vote in November 2004. That's more votes than Bush or Kerry got. So, nation wide, 78 million rejected both. If one can figure out how to get those abstainers to the polls then........
