Air America arrives in Arkansas

Air America radio will begin broadcasting in Central Arkansas on Monday with appearances by former president Bill Clinton and retired general Wesley Clark.

The national network broadcast will be carried by Little Rock-based KXDE 1380am, which Nova M Radio recently acquired through LMA with an option to purchase.

"We're about giving people another voice to hear," said Nova M's president and CEO Anita Drobny in a telephone interview today. "We want people to digest, compare, discuss, and have an open forum."

Nova M is buying stations around the nation to carry the Air America feed, and the move into Arkansas is part of its "quest to be as spread out as possible," according to Drobny.

Air America, which started in March 2004 broadcasting in only three U.S. cities, bills itself as a liberal alternative to conservative talk radio, which dominates national airwaves. The Arkansas station will be close to the 100th Air America affiliate nationwide, and Drobny calls the network's expansion "the biggest rollout of a network since CNN."

Its Arkansas debut on Monday will feature Clinton and Clark as guests on both the Al Franken Show (which airs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and the Randi Rhodes Show (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.).

Wesley Clark---a real steal for a radio program. He must be bored. Oh well, what do you expect from a Hall High School graduate.

Gret news! What programming will be filling out the rest of the broadcast hours on 1380 AM?

I heard they hired a Mime.

"What programming will be filling out the rest of the broadcast hours on 1380 AM?"

simulcasting with NPR

anyone want to take bets on how long it lasts?

Well, if you consider costs the Mime didn't cost them much.

It gives me great pleasure to see how much Air America makes the wingnuts squirm. Sorta like holy water on a vampire huh?

"It gives me great pleasure to see how much Air America makes the wingnuts squirm. "

Are you kidding? Air America has proven to be a total flop. I think its funny that they keep trying to give it CPR.

Oh, I am living in utter terror from the threat posed by Air America. Everywhere they are established, Rush goes off of the air. They opened a station in Memphis recently and it just devastated the Rush community. My wingnuts are melting, melting, melting.

I am a talk radio junkie, I don't care who it is or what their p.o.v. is, I will listen to them before listening to pop radio.

AA is a huge flop, although it is a fun break from the right now and again.

Only the AT would print info about a station that you can't hear outside of Pulaski County (in some parts you can barely hear it).

I am pissed that AA took over where ESPN Radio left off.

That station does not have enough power to get a good fan base for anything.

FYI- YOu can listen to both AA and Espn on the net.

"FYI- YOu can listen to both AA and Espn on the net."

Yes, but 1380 won't get any local advertising revenue from that. You gotta support the cause.

Any wingnuts want to make up statistics about poor liberal media performance?

It will never pay out...those Hillcrest & Quapaw freaks will not support the advertisers of the station because they are too cheap and don't work or pay taxes.
Real business people won't touch programing like that with a ten foot pole. I give it six weeks.....Wesley...bad error...shoulda run as a republican....idiot.

If Wesley ran as a Republican, Hillary would spank. I'm glad he didn't. We have enough 'liberals pretending to be Republicans' to deal with as it is.

I so love watching republicans squirm. They have been in power such a short time and have given us one of the most corrupt governements in our history.

"Any wingnuts want to make up statistics about poor liberal media performance?"

No need to. The market will do that for us.

"I so love watching republicans squirm. They have been in power such a short time and have given us one of the most corrupt governements in our history."

Midge, baby. You are so tense. Surely Hillary will get elected and set everything right for those of you of the female persuasion. Then you will get to see what you have always dreamed of---squirming men. What to worry.

Every time Air America adds a new affiliate, the local wingnuts say it will only last "a couple of weeks" or "six weeks." But almost all of those affiliates are still carrying AAR, more than two years after it went on the air.

Wesley Clark running as a Republican would definitely make me squirm.

Wesley Clark running as a Republican would definitely make me squirm.

Hall High graduates are all democrats. He wouldn't want to break the mold.

According to media week BoreAmerica Just lost it's flagship station in New York, but hey they have Little Rock!

Air America Radio will lose its New York flagship station, WLIB-AM, on Aug. 31. While the left-leaning radio network's original lease for the Inner City station ran out March 31, AAR managed to get an extension which only lasts until Aug. 31, according to an informed source.
Through an agreement with ICBC, WLIB will be operated as a joint venture and programmed by P1, a company run by former Clear Channel and Jacor Communications executive Randy Michaels. Michaels is expected to program a progressive-talk format, but replace AAR's network programming with more local programming. A likely addition to the new lineup: Ed Schultz, the left-of-center talker syndicated by P1.

Wesley Clark?

The Clinton General who ordered NATO troops to take Pristina away from aRussian
paratroopers?

Now that is someone who has vast experience on what NOT to do on the International scene,

Did thy bring him in for comic relief?

Oh Bob....you kinda left this off the little story about Air America in New York City.

"To be clear, Air America will not go silent on the New York City airwaves. We do not, however, comment on hypothetical speculation," said an AAR spokesperson.

This proud Hall High graduate is glad to see AAR in Little Rock. One can only take so much from disgruntled and angry conservative talk show hosts.

BTW, AAR has done well since it's difficulties during it's startup. And that's saying something when you consider that it doesn't have as much corporate money as conservative talk shows have behind them.

While AAR will be a change of pace on the Little Rock AM dial (pretty much Reight Wing talk, and pray-for-pay religion), its not perfect. Jerry Springer (yes, THAT one) is one example. The fact that he uses his TV show for trash forever ruins any good he might do. The big drawing cards will be Franken, Randi Rhodes, and The Majority Report (when not premempted by baseball). Mike Malloy is interesting, but is an aquired taste. As for KDXE, the signal is terrible, but that is expected for low-power AM radio. There is always XM, and if in rural Eastern Arkansas WWTQ 680 from Memphis, although WWAA 1690 Atlanta puts a better signal here in SE AR at night.

Yipeeee!!!This kicks ass! It's a real drag to have to stream it on my 'puter. Happy happy joy joy....I hope they carry Ed Schultz, he's good too! Sounds like it will be an excellent inaugrial broadcast I can't wait! Woohoo! (yeah, I know...calm down)

Yeah - Hall High -- WHAT A LOSER!!!!!

This may be a little off topic, but I ran across this guy's blog the other day, and this quote floored me:

The Bush administration is the Enron of political organizations. A teetering pile of plausible deniability, front politicians, and diversions. Rove keeps George's hands clean, Cheney gets the rap of plutocratic grand vizier, Rumsfeld gets the blame for Iraq, Bolton is a loose cannon someone must've accidentally wheeled into the UN, DeLay is the theocrat, and so on and so forth. The bucks stop nowhere, they just twirl and dance in the wind, a bit of inadvertent political performance art. And there's George, an oasis of ignorance in a maelstrom of incompetence. Past administrations have dodged accountability, this one's made it into a zen art.

You left out one other detail from his resume---None of his peers or bosses would recommend him for a job or give him a character reference. A resume doesn't show you what kind of man he is.

Those of you who question the demise of Air America might want to avoid the latest news----It's flagship station in New York City is dumping it.

Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth sayth Karl Rove. The NY flagship station was bought by a former Clear Channel big wig. That is the reason Air America is being dumped. A Bushy Boy bought the station. It's the Republican way to suppress any critics.

Air America in NY will find another station. This story is not about the failure of Air America, it is about more Republican dirty tricks. Nice try scumbags.

I love how they spin things!

"bills itself as a liberal alternative to conservative talk radio, which dominates national airwaves."

You know, there may be good reason why conservative talk radio DOMINATES the airwaves. Probably the same reason Airhead America has close to 100 affiliates and 13 listeners nationwide!

Oh, and people don't want to listen to a radio network that steals money from government-funded inner-city childrens' programs to prop its unpopular self up!

Maybe Al Franken will come to some engagement and I can call him on that.Of course, that will likely throw him into a temper-tantrum that will allow me the legal opportunity to KICK HIS ASS!

In thatcase, Air America may actually prove to be good for something in Arkansas!

How do you far rightwingers get to the keyboard with that 700 pounds of red state belly flab? But thanks for knuckle dragging yourselves to the polls beside your drooling Jesus Freak cousins to give us a real taste of what rednecks consider a good presiduncy. Let's see- we are the most hated country in the world, after having the overall sympathy of the entire world on 9/11 including headlines in a FRENCH newspaper that proclaimed "We are all Americans today." Your retirement stolen. Gas prices doubled to line the pockets of Dumberer's Big Oil bosses. Health care costs tripled. An American city drowned. Thanks again, REDNECKS! Now waddle down to the church and belch out your hatreds.

An interesting thing is happening with lib talk. The Little Rock AAR affiliatel station whose opening is being feted by Clinton and Wes Clark was leased by a syndicate set up by the original AAR founders, urged into that venture by Bill Clinton who realized that right wing talk radio is now pretty much ofan unbeatable lying propaganda juggernaut.
BUT Christian right radio companies bought and snuffed several of the AAR leases stations out from under them, including the #1 talk radio station in Phoenix, so the Drobnys are riding to the rescue with ongoing fresh leases and attempts to purchase anywhere and everywhere.
Meanwhile Clear Channel has done quite well with some of their low power stations converted to a hybrid liberal AAR/Jones Network (Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller) format including sold-out advertising in Los Angeles and Portland. The CC President left to found P1 which bought Ed Schultz. Their moving in on AAR's flagship station in NYC could spell trouble for AAR since CC has manifold resources. There is also the question of whether the right wing history/purpose of CC (established with the funds GW and his financial partner hoodwinked out of the Arlington County voters who built the Ranger's stadium they cashed out on.) raises suspiscion that their entry into Left wing talk right after the 04 election means that they are hedging their bets for when Dem's regain control of Congress, or whether some Rovian dirty trick is in the making to kill off AAR and then fold liberal talk altogether, since apparently corporate America thinks they can get away with programming far right talk radio wall-to-wall ad infinitum.

I am exited about the prospect of an Air America affiliate in Little Rock! It's about damn time! At last a voice of reason! Way to go KDXE!

Republicans are so bankrupt at this point. I just pray the world makes it to 2008.

BTW, the idea that NPR is " liberal media" is a joke. About as realistic as a fiscally conservative Republican these days!

"The NY flagship station was bought by a former Clear Channel big wig. That is the reason Air America is being dumped. A Bushy Boy bought the station. It's the Republican way to suppress any critics."

If Air America had an audience, they could sell their ad inventory, and not have to worry about getting grants from Soros. The NY affiliate says they haven't paid their bills in months. Now if they're not serving a market, and they're not able to stand alone and operate in the black, that makes AA a special kind of broadcast: propaganda. Station managers don't run Limbaugh because they're right-wingers, they run him because he has a listenership and they can sell ads during his show. BTW, I've been in the radio business, and it's unheard of to have a syndication network where the network is paying the station manager to run the program. It's the other way around, or if the market is uncertain, they both do it for free. AA pays to have their message in NY. It's paid programming, like Thigh-Master and David Oreck, or like a political issue ad before an election, total propaganda.

If a Clear Channel exec bought the NY affiliate, it was because it was on sale, CH33P. A station with no audience and no ad revenue is not a jewel, and AA should be grateful that a Bushy Boy helped them put a stop to their hemorrhaging finances.

YOU FUCKING CONSERVATIVES CAN EITHER ENLIST AND PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR DELUDED ASS IS OR PAY MY FUCKING GAS BILL -

EITHER WAY HE IS THE

WORST PRESIDENT EVER!

FUCKING YOKELS

I might want to get into the "how long will it last pool". The general rule of thumb for Air America survival is that it only does well when the people in the community are can read.

These knuckle dragging right wingers forgot it took conservative talk radio over 15 years to become profitable. Hell, cable news didn't make any money its first three years. So stop the whining and except that AAR is not going anywhere, you half wits.

To paraphrase Morpheus:
Little Rock! Hear me! It is true, what many of you have heard. Air America has arrived in Little Rock.

And coming from Phoenix, believe me when I say we have a difficult time ahead of us. But if we are to be prepared for it, we must first shed our fear of it! I stand here before you now, truthfully unafraid. Why? Because I believe something you do not? No! I stand here without fear because I remember. I remember that I am here not because of the path that lies before me, but because of the path that lies behind me! I remember that for years we have fought these neo-cons on the air. I remember that for years they have send their lies to destroy us. And after the last year, I remember that which matters most. We are still here!

We are Air America Little Rock KDXE 1380.

Hell... Bill Orielly has been predicting the quick demise or AAR since about 10 minutes after the network went on the air.... It toook a long time before Right wing radio becam profitable.... Fox news channel lost money for years... It would have folded if not for Sugar daddy Murdoch.....

LOL AAR is a Flop that continues to flop daily. And add stations. Ummmm what's a flop again?

I am truly estatic that Air America - the voice of political truth - is finally on the air in Little Rock. I had been listening to it on the Memphis station during the day and Atlanta at night despite the interference and fading in and out at night. I was even contemplating buying satellite radio just to get Air America in my car. Thanks Air America for keeping money in my pocket!!!

The most annoying thing about Air America is its "me too" attitude, find something that Rush or Hannity does, ratchet it up a notch then flip the political perspective. It's such a blatent copy cat.

This is cool, you have to try it. I guessed 70815, and this game guessed it! See it here - http://www.funbrain.com/guess/
