And speaking of loose lips
You never have to worry about Travs' GM Bill Valentine keeping his lips buttoned. The Travelerocity blog can direct you to choice comments from Valentine about the sorry state of local media coverage and the lack of respect the city of LR has accorded the now-NLR (at least on travel jerseys) Travelers.

Comments
Can that Travelerocity blog guy possibly whine any more? The Travs are going to NLR. Get over it.

I used to think Bill Valentine was a master PR person. Sounds like he has lost his touch.
LR, NLR, whatever. Monogram the jerseys anyway you want to. Maybe you should have just made it NLR period! This transition has been fraught with missteps and public gaffes.
Bill V. needs to hurry up and re-promote "The Greatest Show on Dirt" before ALL of the old fans (at least those from LR) are alienated . . .

The best thing that could happen to the Travs is a Bill Valentine retirement. His promotions are dated, his attitude is dinosaur and he's the reason the Cards are no longer affiliated with the LR. Let's trade Bill V to Wichita for a second string bullpen catcher.

How long to do you think it will be before the heavy New York lumber at Travelocity.com starts swinging at whoever owns this Traverlorocity site? I give the local guy about three more weeks before he finds himself in trademark hot water.

tellitlikeitis is dead on. Valentine's days are long past. It grates me beyond words to sit at Ray Winder and constantly be hammered between endings with antiquate promotions and endless hawking of trinkets from the concession stand. Any fan who has been to Memphis or other minor league parks will agree....the operations at RWF under Valentine's leadership are old school bush league.

Things haven't been the same since Hookslide passed.

Just watch the skybox crowd become what Traveler baseball is all about. And watch the empty skyboxes -surprise- not pay the bills, and then parking, and hot dogs go up and up. Watch the young families, college kids, the 20 and 30 somethings on cheap fun dates, retired folk, little league kids, priced out of the park.
Valentine has kept the Travs and RWF solvent, drawing more to LR than the Hogs at War Memorial. He trains sports interns in management from all over the country. The DEMGAZ covers the RimWhatevers and other junksports at ALLTEL, and all but ignores the Travs. The City kowtows to the Hogs w/ securtiy, traffic control, and leave Valentine high and dry.
Another kick in the teeth to the major part of LR that is not WLR.
Next, watch Stacy and Drew and Jim and the developers sell of War Memorial acreage to commercial interests- all in the name of PROGRESS. And watch the developer dollars go out of state.

Valentine is right. He is the ONLY reason we have had baseball in Arkansas spanning his career. He is guilty of nothing but possessing a true passion for his profession. If only more people could be like Bill Valentine.
As for all the pessimists and whiners, prepare to witness the resurgence of Travelers baseball. Play ball!

Valentine may be a dinosaur, but that's what I always liked about Ray Winder anyway. Nastalgia is at the hear of true baseball fandom. How many people have you heard watch baseball because their dad took them to their first game? I haven't heard any other reason for becoming a baseball fan, not from a true believer.
So what you are left with when you take the attitude that nastalgia has no place in a modern ballpark? No heart, no soul, maybe some cash, maybe even a winning team, who knows, but you take the heart out of something and that something dies.

He's also going to have a restuarant at the park I'm told. His restuarant, now that's a nice deal.
