He spent 8 years telling his brain dead listeners what a pervert Clinton was. How he was such a superior being because he was a conservative. I daresay most of Rush's listeners recognize what a pompous windbag he is - he is an actor/personality playing to his audience just as AT does to its own audience, (albeit for a couple of less million dollars a year).

There are many thousands of persons in prison right now who have committed no worse sin than Rush Limbaugh. His getting off without a real sentence is not a joke, and I hope it not just "the way things are." Justice is treating equal cases equally.

Limbaugh's only using the trappings of the privileged class, a right he earned by rising from mediocrity to become a high priest of right-wing megaphony. He poses as an honorable man, and as in the case of the president, the image is what counts, not the reality. The so-called conservative movement is like any other power-grabbing entity. The evil in Limbaugh is the fact that repug politicians recognize what a force he is among their base and kiss his ass. He has had the president ,bush I, on his "show", he's spent the night in the Lincoln bedroom, our darth vader veep is a regular, the new press secretary has been a guest host along with various congressmen and right-wing pundits.

I suspect the politicians recognize what a demagogue Limbaugh is, but he can rally the true-believers so he's useful.

Old dead Reagan gave us Rush when he x'ed the Fairness Doctrine in 1987. The baby neo-cons jumped on that like a duck on a june bug and next thing ya know, all these crummy radio shows pop up saying anything their pointy heads can imagine. The Fairness Doctrine came around in the 1930s to combat the exact problem we have right now. It was an effort to clear the air waves of lunatics preaching hate and inciting fringe groups with lies and untruthful smears, the exact problem we have again today.

I work hard to form my own opinion. I know Pia Zadora is hot, I don't need confirmation from anyone else. But hate filled people, and lord there are lots of them, took right up with bashers like Rush. They want to believe that Clinton is a pervert. They want to believe that liberals have Jesus in the back room whipping the pee out of him. They also believe that corporate whore-criminals like Bush love America and everything they do is greater than Lincoln, no not Blanche. Look back in history at the snake oil salesmen, they took advantage of the ignorance and greed of a portion of our population that's always there. So be it. But never before has the position of snake oil salesman been elevated to someone to admire, follow and pattern your life after.

The kicker is the people who are gullible don't want facts, they just want a forceful voice to tell them they're right to just feel in their guts if someone is a good guy or a bad guy. It's how McCain can be a hero with such a terrible voting record. It's how Rummy can lose the war from day one and still be a hero to at least 32%.

My old ma told me from birth if you deal in anything other than the truth it's going to cause problems you can't even imagine. If she looked like Janet Huckabee no one would have ever paid a bit of attention to her. She has used lies and half truths to get rich and famous. I wouldn't care except often what she says is dangerous and it further divides our country and causes hate.

We worry about civil war in Iraq, when it looks to me like America is awful damn close to having Civil War II right here at home. And the cause is half the population whipped up into a frenzy by people like Rush playing to their fears with un-factual information. The other half of the population like me, are so outraged that the other half believes the lies and smears and half truths and are in love with hypocrites feathering their own nests at the expense of peace and freedom and fact. If someone or some thing causes me to discount you as a human, it makes it much easier for me to not care if you're whisked away in the night and killed. (See Nazi Germany circa 1938)

In 1997 I had a lousy job in Van Buren. I also had a lousy car with only an AM radio. For a few weeks I would drive to the levy with my sack lunch and turn on Rush to spend 30 minutes laughing at his foolishness like I used to do with radio preachers. It wasn't a happy time in my life anyway, but after a few weeks I was so pissed off all the time, unhappy, snappy and suddenly meaner than I had ever been before in my life. I realized it was all being caused by 30 minutes of Rush 5 days a week. I can't imagine what kind of monster I would have turned into if I had actually believed his hateful crap.

I've said a hundred times before, I hate a Democrat lie as much as a Republican lie. I hate lies and liars period. America is no longer a happy place and people like Rush bear part of the responsibility. He and Osama should be hated equally for the damage they've caused to this country. If we don't do better we're all going to die.

He's a hate-filled hypocrite who basically got off 'cause he's wealthy and connected. He might be deserving of sympathy if he'd shown one iota of remorse or if he hadn't been blasting all the so-called druggies for years.

Rush's show is not listened to by millions strictly because his opinion is so popular. Unlike television ratings, there's no way to verify talk radio's numbers...then there's his government granted monopoly on the Armed Forces Radio. Further, right-wing radio owners have been subsidizing his awful opinions for sometime--a moneyed monopoly.

I don't come to my opinion of Rush through hearsay; I've listened numerous times to his show (long story). And, the hate that comes out of his mouth towards women, in particular, is deserving of every nasty comment I can send his way.

Like others have stated, if an average person got caught doing a fraction of what Rush has done they'd be treated in an entirely different manner.
