His petulancy
Here's Stephens Media's coverage of the governor's decision to strip the Arkansas Times of press privileges routinely extended to other news outlets. It goes without saying that the governor wasn't truthful in claiming that the information we seek is available on the website. Press appearances are not routinely posted there [LATE ADDITION: the week's public schedule is posted there, but it does not typically include press availabilities called on the spur of the moment. Reporters depend on e-mail notices of these appearances to be on hand for coverage] and other material is not always timely posted. The governor does not explain what specifically prompted the action. But you gotta love The Huckster. He characterizes HIS decision to remove our press privileges as a ploy for attention by US.

Comments
A small band of immature ideologues are rejoicing over The Huckster's pettiness. Most see it for what it is. In any event, please continue to shine your bright, objective, journalistic light on this character for what's left of his term. Next year, he'll be on the federal dole as Dubya's handlers find something for him to do. The Huckster is so pathetic.

But he's a "decider" too!

Stay on 'em AT. Someone has to keep this crook accountable. The Demozette sure ain't gonna do it.

And if an Arkansas Times reporter shows up at a press conference regarding State of Arkansas business, will they be denied entrance???
Posted by: 19thgeneration | April 28, 2006 08:23 AM
Is there somewhere we can call and complain?
Sadlly, this is an example of the republican idea of a free press. Say anything you want, as long as it's favorable to them.

Dear Max:
Keep it up. If the governor's decision weren't so outrageous it would be funny. Actually, it is funny--in a pathetic way.
They don't have a choice when it comes to leaving people out of their mailings. I'd ask about the "hundreds" of news outlets they're ignoring already. If the government pays for any information distributed at no cost to the recipient, then it should pay for all. Who gets to decide which ones get it and which don't?
One thing I know: Pryor would never have let something like this happen. We'd've been out that door in no time.
All the best, and good luck, Don

You can complain loudly this November at the ballot box. Clearly the time has come to throw out the diseased Republicans. They're thinking and actions are sick. Like FEMA they are broken beyond repair. Yelling at them does no good, they must be removed. A sad end for a once proud political party. But so went the Whigs.
The Arkansas Times should take the gloves off, suspend the Marquess of Queensbury rules and bloody Huckabee every chance they get.
We've endured enough of his goofy Moonie marriages, his Jesus injections, his gift and media whoredom, his petty egotistical rages, his out of town-ness, and his decision to be a rock star instead of our Governor for the remainder of his term in office.
He has been the best spokesman for himself while continually referring to the hickdom of his home state. He has loaded our state government with gift-bearing cronies, and operatives of big business.
He took the P out of PSC, by hiring the enemy. He is the sugar-coated example of everything that is wrong with politics and the Republican Party.
Huckster benefited the most from the Whitewater witch hunt and shows what happens when one elevates a man beyond his brains and abilities. Hopefully he'll move out of state after he ends his current tax payer financed play time.
Huckabee is the face of the Republican Party in Arkansas and now it has taken on that smirky look of another Republican we also know is all hat and no cattle.
Huck's petty act deserves to be answered by an Arkansas Times bunker buster response. He obviously has something to hide. Gig him!

I just read in dem-gezz about the banishment.
I wonder if McCarthy I mean Huckabee will disallow the generic mainstream press from attendance for informing the public of its policy of the moment and dare they even think that there may be people of different opinions.
I cant wait til america has one newspaper, one news agent, one appoved haircut, one super leader and those that challenge the one idea that we are told to believe are rounded up and draged thru the street and stoned for having unapproved thoughts.
so a little extreme but think about it
hopefully some rogue agent from an huckabee approved press agency will seceretly feed the times information in a timely fashion

For the record, the D-G article about the Huckabee decision to shut out the Times was published in its Paper Trails column, which we don't get in the Northwest Arkansas print edition. So for those relyiing only on print in NW Ark., the Stephens article iin today's Morning News was the only way to learn of this.

No Suprise, Press pass should be for real Press i.e. those who report the news factually,
spewing hate and slanted opinons which is what is found in the Arkansas Times is not news gathering.

Only responsible press organizations should be afforded privileges. Way to go, Huckabee!
ARK. BLOG: You are no conservative. When the government may decide who is a responsible organization and who is not and who may practice the First Amendment freely and who may not, well, welcome to the Soviet Union.

Where is Paul Greenberg on this? Surely this is anathama to a true conservative? The journalistic community should be in AT's corner right now. Have they all been cowered by this political coward? Have they too abandoned the first amendment?
Posted by: Janus | April 28, 2006 01:01 PM
I'd imagine that Greenberg is dreaming of Boston, while Kane has his head up Chris Rose's ass and isn't paying any attention to what is happening here.
Rose's ass does get the paper delivered at least, but it is just the sports section so those two graffers you see on the NFL draft are Kane's doing.
Hey Kane, Bilxoi called. It is Sun Herald, no hyphen. At least try to get it right.

If these documents are distributed electronically, there is absolutely no cost to the state to distribute them to another interested party. It's pure chicken-shit spite.
Very "christian."

Jeez; what's up? Did Hunka get into some hooch that's been fermenting too long? Or has someone stolen his nom de plume?

To anyone wanting to call & complain, please realize that Kirk Jordan takes great pictures, & that's all he does. I'm sure it was an inadvertent oversight to include him in that list & not others on the staff, but Kirk's not where any blame or credit should go.

The government doesn't have to come to any conclusion about the legitimacy of an organization like the Arkansas Times. There is no decision that has to be made. No choices-I mean, really, what would have to be decided? It is obvious that the Arkansas Times is nothing more than an insignificant tabloid completely unworthy of press-credentials. Why should Huckabee acknowlege Arkansas Times? There is no reason to do so--it (AT) is not a credible press outlet.
Posted by: hunkahillbilly | April 28, 2006 05:15 PM
hmmm... the decision to black-ball the 3rd largest newspaper in the state (under the guise of illegitimacy) is clearly an act of retribution for calling brother-gov out on his shizz. anyone who thinks otherwise is definitely drinking the kool-aid. let's hope colbert embarasses the hell out of him tuesday night on his LEGITIMATE news show...

The government doesn't have to come to any conclusion about the legitimacy of an organization like the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. There is no decision that has to be made. No choices-I mean, really, what would have to be decided? It is obvious that the Arkansas Democrat Gazette is nothing more than an insignificant tabloid completely unworthy of press-credentials. Why should Huckabee acknowlege Arkansas Democrat Gazette? There is no reason to do so--it (ADG) is not a credible press outlet.
Hey this is easy--who else wants to play?
