More than karaoke

That karaoke party was just a beginning for a coming weekend of activities by Arkansas Democrats, including the Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner with speaker Max Cleland and a veterans rally with Cleland and Gen. Wesley Clark at the Vietnam memorial on the state Capitol grounds. Read all about it on the extended.

ARKANSAS DEMOCRATS HEADED TO LITTLE ROCK FOR DEMOCRATIC WEEKEND 2006

Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, Khakis & Catfish Young Democrats Convention among festivities

LITLE ROCK – More than 1,000 Arkansas Democrats are expected to be in Little Rock this Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a host of events making up Democratic Weekend 2006.

Chief among the festivities is Saturday night’s traditional Jefferson-Jackson Dinner featuring keynote speaker, former Georgia Sen. Max Cleland and emcee Gen. Wesley Clark. Other activities include Friday evening’s Khakis & Catfish get-together on the Old Statehouse lawn and the three-day Young Democrats of Arkansas state convention which also begins Friday night.

The Young Democrats convention will also be the site of some other exciting events. Sen. Cleland and Gen. Clark will address the YD’s at the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial on the State Capitol grounds as part of a Democratic veterans rally at 4 p.m. Saturday. The convention will also host debates between Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidates at 11:15 a.m. and Attorney General candidates at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Arkansas Education Association building.

A few tickets remain for the debates and there is also some space left for a Saturday Bar-B-Q with Congressman Vic Snyder behind the DPA headquarters at 12:15 p.m. Tickets to the debate are free. It’s $10 to attend the Bar-B-Q. To attend either activity, please contact Jamie Oliver at convention@ydarkansas.org.

“This is truly an exciting time to be an Arkansas Democrat. Over the past year, the Party staff and I have worked diligently to make the Party more open, more inclusive and more responsive to the needs and suggestions of our members,” said Democratic Party of Arkansas Chairman Jason Willett. “It is truly a new day at the Party – a commitment to make the Democratic Party of Arkansas stronger than ever will only intensify in the coming months.

“Our priorities are clear. We will take back the Governor’s Mansion. We will regain the office of Lieutenant Governor. We will maintain our strength at the federal, state and county level.

“In roughly 200 days, Mike Beebe will be elected the next Governor of Arkansas and restore common sense values and a tireless fight for our state’s seniors and working families to that office.

“This weekend shows our commitment to the Democratic cause, our shared values and our candidates as they fight for the right to represent all Arkansans.”

Tickets to the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner are $100 each. Khakis & Catfish tickets are $25 apiece. Discounts are available to anyone who orders tickets to both events. Tickets are available at the DPA website, www.arkdems.org, or offsite, https://www.d4d.org/arjjdinner2006.htm, or by contacting Party Finance Director Katie Bodenhamer at (501) 374-2361 or at Katie@arkdems.org.

Thought the Veterans Memorial was off-limits to partisan press conferences?

Why is it assumed that when either party does something on behalf of veterans it is a partisan event?

I know many Repugnants and Demagogues who are also patriotic Americans--which is one reason they're active in politics in the first place.

Especially the youngsters.

I would assume it is partisan because the article states: "Sen. Cleland and Gen. Clark will address the YD's at the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial on the State Capitol grounds as part of a Democratic veterans rally at 4 p.m. Saturday"

Wow. "Khakis and Catfish". Why specify a dress code? Were you really worried someone would wear black tie, or assless chaps? Why not just call it "Douchebags and Dollar Beers"?

How dare they allow that traitor Max Cleland to speak? Every right-thinking Repub knows that Max just faked his injuries as a way to meet chicks.

"Why not just call it "Douchebags and Dollar Beers"?

That title would require Chris Massingill's attendance.

I hope Governor Tucker wears an even brighter striped shirt and looks even more out of place in the crowd this year.

Gee, that's original. And you're just jealous.
I will say this about Chris Massengill. He's got more class in his pinky toe than you've got in your entire body.
