National Dems' six-point plan
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean unveiled a six-point plan at yesterday's Spring meeting of the DNC in New Orleans:
Dean said that Democrats will fight for a six-point plan that includes raising the minimum wage, tax ``fairness'' for the middle class, ``a complete ban on gifts and travel from lobbyists,'' the inspection of all cargo coming into U.S. ports, fixing the Medicare drug plan and ``transition'' in Iraq.

``a complete ban on gifts and travel from lobbyists,''
As important as the consequences of the war in Iraq may be, the best way to prevent the next war is to remove the money and influence that is being rained down on our elected officials by big business and their pimp lobbyists.
Does anyone think we'd be in Iraq today if there was no money for these people to make in waging war?
Take a moment and reflect on the fact that America has no interest in the problems of other countries that happen to have no oil in the ground or ways for American defense contractors to get rich quick.
Money is behind the war in Iraq, not 9-11. Money is what floats the Jack Abramoffs, the Cunninghams and DeLays. Money is what lobbyists don't mind spending in order to buy our elected officials to make sure the horn of plenty never runs out for the masters they serve.
And it all comes out of our hide. When they're not stealing our money, they're killing our kids. If I was to get sicker over it all, I'd quiver and drop dead.
Thru the corruption and incompetence of Bush-Cheney America is on her knees. Our states are no longer united, we are divided, the cracks in our government are big enough to drive trucks thru.
If Howard Dean can wake up the Democrats, here is our chance to take the blocks scattered by the Republicans and rebuild a country we can all be proud of, and more importantly afford and feel safe living in.
America doesn't look good being the great Satan of the modern world. We shined when our role was savior of the down and out. First strike may be smart, but it's not us.
Job 1 is to go to the polls this November and throw out everyone....Democrats and Republicans alike. All are responsible for the mess we're in today. Most importantly of course is to knock the Republicans out of power. They're lousy at it anyway.
With a Democratic House and Senate we'll soon learn all the answers the White House has refused to give since the day Bush set foot in DC. A series of investigations will chase the rats from the throne of power and be a damn good start at fixing what ails our country. I dread the process, but it is our only hope.
We will not have to wait until January, 2009 to be rid of the Bush administration if everyone will vote Democrat this November. The world can't wait that long for some relief. Our kids shouldn't have to die in vane for the next 2 and a half years.
Oh, you say you don't like Democrats? Well too bad, they're the only hope this world has to set things back on the right path and end the suffering and the killing and the corruption. Another 5 years of Republicans and we'll all be dead.
Vote Democrat this November, the world is depending on it.

The Loyal Opposition Party (and they still have no concepts of what that entails) needs to emulate the GOP of the '90s and conjure up a "Contract on America" (ooops...WITH America) and really lay it on. If the Democrats don't understand now that the voting public will buy a pig in a poke then they are even blinder than I attribute to their party.

Ooooh, call cutting and running from Iraq by another term - "transition." Way to go Howard; you've finally found a way to be successful in your Presidential campaign. Thank God Hillary won't follow your lead.

Is there anything more sad than a necon desperately trolling as a democrat?
Get a backbone, man.

Your President has already announced the transition.....it will be the next President's job to bet the troops home. Strange I haven't noticed you slicing up of that politician for his "transitory" plan.

Love that Howard Dean. He's the only friggin' politician saying what I'm saying. Only, he's nicer about it than I am. e.g. Kerry. Is he slow or something with his 'dissent is patriotic' stump speech? Is he kidding, the people have been screaming that from the rooftops for four long years. Where was he then?
e.g. where's the Congress? On recess. Silence is deadly isn't it?
As much as I love Howard Dean, the DNC, DSCC, DPA, etc will get no money from me until the bad weeds are pulled out of the party. I'm not the only Dem that feels strongly about that either.

This term "cut and run" is effective. I strongly suspect it was revived for this war by a person who has never been in combat.
Easy to say from the comfort of your keyboard, man.
You make me sick.

I can't believe democrats are able to count to 6 unless they are taxing 6 people with 6 figure incomes to redistribute the wealth and start 6 new government pork programs that will never go away.

Well, at least these Democrats can count to six.
By the way, the Democrats haven't been in charge of anything in about a decade. Blame your taxes on somebody else.
You live in a society of fellow humans, you pay your taxes like the rest of us. You don't want to pay taxes, you go live somewhere that doesn't apply them. Let the rest of us know when you find a place to live that doesn't ask you to pay your share.

No mention of health insurance for about 50 million Americans? No mentions that the uninsured are the cause of higher premiums on the insured. Proving health coverage for every American will reduce costs overall, why can't we grow a pair and say that?

Never mind the trillion-dollar War of Occupation, our collapsed health care system, skyrocketing national debt, etc.,...the big issue for 2006, as being crafted by Karl Rove and the Republican Party, Inc., is The Constitutional Amendment To Prohibit Gay Marriage. And, can you blame them? Idiot Nation will take the bait (again), just you wait and see. With all of these other issues begging, we'll be bogged down on "gay marriage," and the Republican Party, Inc., will sweep to ever-larger majorities in both houses of congress this November. Howard Dean and his ilk will evidently never get it--hatred is the most powerful force in politics. The 'Six Point Plan' will be completely ignored by the average Joe and Jane when their homophobia is being courted.

We need to expand that #6 into a broader topic, e.g., support for the military and then put in sub-sections such as the transition and then add, sections on support for veterans, replacement of all the equipment that Iraq drew from the reserve supply in Europe and Asia (or there won't be any equipment to fight any "next" war), a complete review of manpower needs for whatever the philosophy is going to be (one war, small war, etc), increased mental help for vets, perhaps a review of why we need 3000 generals and admirals, retention, and the whole isue of contracting out some of the jobs "Americans won't do" such as cooks, postmaster, drivers, etc. A lot of people without a college education went into the military and learned enough job skills that could make a living when the got out. Now, unless their neighborhood needs armed guards or explosive experts, there aren't a lot of transferable skills. We need a complete review of the use of the Guard and Reserve in any overseas capacity. Besies screwing up the very loyal employer suppor of teh Guard program, you are also pulling tax payers away from the the jobs that support their families and communities. And Howard, how about a good look at the overall tax policy with the goal of scrapping about 90% of the pages and replacing them with a form that taxes less than 40 manhours to do (It took me over 60 hours and a banker box of documents). Don't focua so much on what they pay but rather on what they have left after they pay. If the retiring Chairman of Exxon had to pay 75% tax on his $400 million, that still leaves $100 million and probably both you and I couls live onthat although it would be a struggle, If he was still working a standard 2080 hour year, he would be reduced to working for on $50,000/ hour. Look at what is left, not the rate. When you do this, you would leave those at the bottom totally alone up to a fairly significant level thgat would exempt probablt 40-50% of all Americans.
And while I am ruling the world, we need to get a new highway bill to replace/repair the nation's highway system as lack of care is alklowing it to degrade to the point of being dangerous.

I think Cato, that much like the gop there are many Democrats that are fully aware of what sheep the American people are and how easily they will buy a pig in a poke from them. In fact, they count on it and need to be culled out of the party.
Sheepherders, that means you.
