Payola again?

Say it ain't so. Radio jocks are taking freebies in return for playing certain music? Surely not in Arkansas. Anyway, says the LA Times:

The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday launched formal investigations into pay-for-play practices at four of the nation's largest radio corporations, the biggest federal inquiry into radio bribery since the congressional payola hearings of 1960.

Two FCC officials with direct knowledge of the matter confirmed that the agency had requested documents from Clear Channel Communications Inc., CBS Radio Inc., Entercom Communications Corp. and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. over allegations that radio programmers had received cash, checks, clothing and other gifts in exchange for playing certain songs without revealing the deals to listeners, a violation of federal rules.

Thats against the law! I know this is a national thing, but Little Rock alone has had over 20 homicides already this year, and our tax money is looking into DJ's playing songs that people want to hear! I don't get it

The crime is what radio has become. Turn on any station around the county and you hear the same old crap over and over. If not for the internet and a few magazines, you would not be able to learn about and hear any new, good music. If you like the same old top 40 Pop crap, then radio is for you. (oh yes, and mindless jabber in the mornings. "What did Brad and Joline do yesterday" Call and tell us what you thought of American Idol last night" What crap!)

If not for NPR, my car radio would be useless. CD's, iPod's, Satellite, no corporate radio for me. And they have no one to blame but themselves!

I agree with LR Citz...mindless crap on the radio, music sucks...NPR and KABF are all I can listen to...

This should come as no surprise. How else do you explain Evanescence?

Next thing you know will be fake news on TV. Imagine.

Is this why Tommy Smith and David Bazzel got a new music machine on 103.7 The Buzz? I've been trying to figure out why they are turning a top rated morning show into "David and Tommy argue about the classics." If they are getting a little payola then maybe it makes sense.

Definitely no surprise. When I hear an old song from an artist who hasn't been around in a while, I know a new album is coming out and that the radio station is taking bribes.

At my house (and in the car), there is no other radio except KUAR and occasionally KABF. It's been that way for years. Music? That's why God made CDs and vinyl.

Well of course Clear Channel gets the big payola. They bought up over 1600 markets with the help of the corrupt and dirty Senate members.

I know I'm old, but I also know my kids are being robbed by growing up in an era of the most sucky music ever played in private or thru the air.

Their generation will have no Beatles, no Stones, their music makes KC and the Sunshine Band sound good. Poor kids. Who cares if DJs are being paid.....it's the kids who should be paid to listen to this crap.

Our new money proves that all the great artists and engravers are dead. And I heard better music played in an attached garage on an Emenee Tiger Guitar growing up than I hear coming from my kid's bedrooms today.

No wonder over half of what they listen to is my music from the 70s. Not a great time for music or fashion........or politics either.

Dishonesty in radio? Impossible.
