That dog don't hunt

Field and Stream says in an editorial that the Bush administration is no friend of hunters and fishermen.

Rod and gun in hand, and backing the Second Amendment right to own firearms, President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have won the hearts of America’s sportsmen. Yet the two men have failed to protect outdoor sports on the nation’s public lands. With deep ties to the oil and gas industry, Bush and Cheney have unleashed a national energy plan that has begun to destroy hunting and fishing on millions of federal acres throughout the West, setting back effective wildlife management for decades to come.

First the farmers figured it out. Now it's the sportsmen. When Bush loses the brush-clearing ranch hands, we'll know he's toast.

But as long as Bush yells, "Jesus Christ!" erratically, he'll always be the darling evangelists.

It goes back to the whole IQ thing. Hunka can tell you.

darling of*

Speaking of dogs that won't hunt, did any body notice Dustin McDaniels fat dog in those lame blue jean hunting billboards? Like that dog has ever been hunting, nor has Dusty for for that matter. There is a big difference in a duck camper and a duck hunter. What do you think Dusty does in duck camp other than think of new ways to sue gun manufactures?

I wouldn't say this writer necessarily represents hunters as a whole. The leaders in particular fields tend to espouse more liberal views than their readers/listeners/customers.

Case in point: the Dixie Chicks and Billy Graham (a Democrat).

Toast? Isn't he constitutionally toast? Not allowed to serve past the end of this term? Or do you think he and Cheney plan a coup? If other provisions of the Constitution can be suspended for the president's benefit in "war time," why not elections?

I mean this in the best way possible...but with the added pics on the blog threads -- this reminds me of the ArkFam blog :)

Not that its a bad thing...I always thought their pic choice was pretty funny as it realted to the thread.

IMHO, I like the new blog look.

It's a lengthy article, but a good read. I recommend it.

I've noticed a big change in the hunters/fishermen that I talk to you, maybe over the past year to year and a half. It's not because they're going liberal--it's because they see a direct threat to things they care about.

Enviromentalism isn't a Republican or Democratic issue. If somebody threatens your land, air, or water, we should oppose them regardless of their political party. Glad to see that F&S gets it.

Woah...stating that sportsmen have finally "figured it out" seems a bit of an over-reach. Field & Stream's editorial may have little, if any, impact on this somewhat monolithic lot. Be alert, look around, and you'll probably see just as many little trucks tooling about with their 'Sportsmen for Bush' bumperstickers still affixed six months or one year out. And, of course, the perenially flashing turn signal further advertising the obliviousness of the driver.

Hey, who in the heck is that guy standing behind the President, pointing at something for him to look at? My God, he's wearing a pink cap!! Does anyone wear pink afield these days? Not in Arkansas.

Oh, and note that crazed look in Bush's eyes. He looks like Cheney with a lawyer in sight.

Well, Hmmmm....The Reverend Billy Graham is hardly a Democrat. Surely you jest.

Glen's right - I'm a life-long republican, voted for Bush twice, and after seeing 6 years of public lands mis-management, including selling off part of Arkansas' National Forests where I take my son fishing, I'll be damned if I vote for a liar again.

Yep, Billy Graham's a Democrat.

Couric: I read, though, that you're a Democrat. Is that true?

Graham: Yes. I am.[/i]

Surely the hunters/fishermen always have known that it's the Democrats who are for protection of a clean environment, protection of forests, protection of rivers. What did hunters/fishermen think Bush and all were going to do? I never had any doubt they were for clear-cutting, pumping rivers dry, whatever makes the most money for the large corporations.

I just don't understand how people are just now waking up to this bunch...

Yea, GW has really screwed up most tailwater trout fishing streams giving hydro power administrations green light to pump to the limit..Beaver is ruined, others soon to be..and he give away some great land in Ozark Forists.

But ay god, he wont take yor guns away!

OK, but how about letting the Europeans or the Japanese save the world this time.
