UAMS move?

Dr. Albert Reece, UAMS’ dean of the College of Medicine, declined to comment today on talk that he is on the short list for a job at the  University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

But UAMS spokesman Leslie Taylor said that “on behalf of UAMS, since he’s come to the College of Medicine Dr. Reece has made such a difference … and I’m not surprised that somebody of his stature and track record would have opportunities at other places.”

Reece, an ob-gyn specialist in high-risk pregnancy who came to UAMS in 2002, is rumored to be in the running for dean of the college of medicine at UMMC. The Times is waiting to hear from UMMC on how short the list is.

UMMC Dean of the School of Medicine Donald E. Wilson announced last year he would retire Sept. 1. When Dr. Wilson took the helm at the School of Medicine in 1991, he became the nation’s first African-American dean at a predominantly white medical school. Today, the School of Medicine has one of the most diverse student bodies in the country and the number of African-American faculty members has doubled.

After seeing his pic I feel like singing, "Oh, Lydia, Oh, Lydia, say have you met Lydia? Lydia, the tatooed lady..."

Yes, Dr. Reece does resemble Groucho.

Not that it is a bad thing because Groucho was a widely known man with (along with brothers) many great accomplishments to his credits.

You have to give credit where due! To become dean of the College of Medicine at UAMS is no small feat which required a very intelligent man with significant political ability who likely worked many long hours to get there.

Never met the Dr. and would not know him if he walked past. But he certainly does not deserve being slighted because of his appearance.

How about posting a picture of yourself. Bet you are no Gary Cooper or Tom Cruise.

Are we sure this isn't one of those things that got lost in the mail for 50 years. Are we sure this news item about Dr. Reece isn't dated April, 1956? Can someone check and see if the real Dr. Reece isn't 94 and living in Sun City now?

All kidding aside, best wishes to Dr. Reece and may he continue to rise to the top.

I can't believe it, my co-worker just bought a car for $22681. Isn't that crazy!
