If the judge rejects this lawsuit, I challenge all of the blowholes on this site to stop attacking Halter on these grounds - we should be tearing down our party's inevitable nominee. I also challenge you to state right now if you will accept the ruling of this unbiased judge.

I like Halter, but I want to know the truth according to the law. I do not want to see another Timmy Hutchinson trick like was pulled in 2004. Slip-sliding around the law is what has brought us to our current level of misery in this country.

And I agree, if Halter is out, Asa is out.

I don't think Halter will be kicked off the ballot. But I do think it is substantial that he's not lived here in a long time. I like the idea that a home-grown kid can go off and do well and return home. However, Tim Wooldridge has been elected to serve folks in Arkansas for 22 years, not quite as long as Halter has been gone. Halter should have spent more time back in Arkansas before he jumped into all of these races.

Any body know if the complainent was put on the stand? How bout more info Halter camp?

If Hathorn's camp encouraged this at all - the "free" attorneys fees must be reported on Hathorns report as an "in-kind" expense. And we know how serious Hathorn is about following campaign finance rules.

I dont have a choice but to accept the ruling of the unbiased judge on Halter's residency; however, I would never vote for someone that moves to Arkansas right before an election for the sole reason of buying an office. I might not be as anti-Halter if he wasn't running against 3 guys that did choose to stay here and invest time in our state legislature. Sure, it's nice that Halter worked for Clinton and the Country in D.c., but he then chose to reside in CA for years. I think McGowan will find that Halter has not been a legal resident. (And I'm sure he is a nice, smart guy--nothing personal----might have even campaigned for him had he relocated here sooner.) If he remains on the ballot he will be in the runoff solely due to media, but I think any of the three will knock him out during the 3 week runoff period. Will he stay around Arkansas to get to know people in the state for a future run, or bail? I wouldnt know that answer. I'm with Tim, Mike, Mike, Tim, Tim, Mike, MIke, TIm......but never BIll for this election.

All of these guys have given far more to Mike Beebe than Mike Hathorn. The general is a master at avoiding races, but also knows that a residency challenge against Asa! is too politically risky without some sort of assurance that it will work. Why not run a test case on a guy that nobody in Arkansas has strong ties with? If it works, hey Mike Beebe catches the unopposed express once again.

At least Halter is honest. Hathorn is a coward - he should at least stand up and tell people that he is behind this. It will be much worse when the press starts asking for specifics and it is found out that he is engaged in a cover up.

This one is going to backfire on Hathorn. He finsihes fouth, and is forced to move to California. Halter peels vote form Hathorn and wins without a runoff. Wooldrige and Martin live to play another day.

I think what the Democrats are doing to Halter is wholly undemocratic. We should be a unified party before and after the primaries, especially if we want to make Arkansas blue. I am rather ashamed of the Wooldridge and Hathorn campaigns for their belittlement of the Halter campaign and other dirty trickery since Halter entered the race. Halter and Martin are the only two candidates left with the morals and values of the Democratic Party apparently.

As a young democrat, Hathorn is turning me away from my interest in politics. Halter deserves a chance on the ballot just like the others. Let Arkansans decide, not dirty politics.

Why don't we compare and contrast the actions by New Yorkers when a certain person ran for thier vacant US Senate seat recently. Or, if you like history, follow what the New Yorkers did when they confronted the same choices re: Bobby Kennedy. I think I would care most about who would do the best job, not a punative where he lived test! Silly me.

I just recently got interested in the Lt. Gov. race, but discovered that the hottest race was between Hathorn and Bud Jackson. I guess that Jackson is a staffer for Halter, but shouldn't this race be between the candidates and not their staffers? Why in the hell is Hathorn attacking a staffer? Jackson isn't running for office! Besides, I thought politics was about progression not stagnation. If all the Lt. Gov. campaigns want to do is fight, then perhaps they all should move to CA. First, I don't see where Hathorn has attacked Jackson. He filed an ethics complaint again HALTER. Don't assume that the posts on here are from the staffs, they might be, but that can never be proven.

Second, people are attacking Bud Jackson because no one has see the candidate respond. Jackson seems to be the only one with the ability to speak. Let Halter step forward and tell me what he thinks. I don't want to hear from someone who will be gone as soon as the election is over. I want to hear from the candidates!

This lawsuit has everything to do with Asa and very little to do with Mike Hathorn. Halter is merely caught in the crossfire because he's a carpetbagger too.

If this is Bud please leave the Young Democrats out of this they have enough problems. I look forward to tomorrow so we can all find out the ruling. This should have been taking care of earlier so all democrats, including Bill if he is still in this race, can move on.

I just took a gander at the past few finance reports presented on the SOS website.

QUESTIONS:

-Why does Wooldridge show something like 90 grand in expenditures but no details? Is it not mandatory? Did SOS not post or did Wooldridge misreport?

-Why do Hathorn, Wooldrige, and Halter (didn't look at Martin) show "paid campaign workers" but only Halter reports his employees?

I just looked at Martin. He did report some expenditures as "payroll." I didn't see anything like that for Hathorn but could have missed it.

Article 6 is just murky enough that it will be very easy to rule that it requires seven years residency but not seven consecutive years (since it does not explicity say that), Halter is OK and no one will waste time chasing Asa!

And I agree, if Halter is out, Asa is out.

DBI has it right on the head. Who cares, except the 3 in the LT race if Halter is a legal resident? After all the LT is a toothless job, presiding over the Senate and photo opps.
This is about the big prize, the Gov seat. If Halter is thrown off - then Asa is out...period. The timing is perfect, and the winner will not be Hathorn, Wooldrige or Martin, it'll be Beebe. The vile back and forth here is silliness. This had to go before the courts now, and its a good thing for our party, either way it falls. This "defender of democracy" from Bismarck had not voted since 1992 until yesterday. Then he reads an article in the newspaper and decides to be the saviour of the Democratic Party. He contacts a supporter of Hathorn who refers him to another supporter of Hathorn who takes time out of his law practice to represent him for nothing. These people are liars....liars....liars.

I have had a problem with Halter's residency since I first heard about it.....sometime around Christmas. I wouldnt vote for him for any statewide office. I will vote for whichever of the other candidates appears to contest him more. (not the hearsay on here.) Ive talked to people with Hathorn and Wooldridge that are discusted by it, so I will vote with one of them.

Hopkins might be doing it just for Hathorn, but I guarantee you Hopkins didn't engineer this thing without AT LEAST the knowledge of Mike Beebe.

I'm betting at least a part of the effort is aimed at eliminating Hutchinson from the guv's race. That's not necessary, because Beebe will beat Hutchinson because he is the better candidate. It's overkill, but as CREEP learned, there is a temptation to eliminate ALL risks.

I am amazed if anyone believes spin that Beebe and Hathorn did this without proof. My sense would tell me that is Halter's camp's ability to dodge the questions, which they have continually done. It's just a little convenient that residency issues are being leveled at Beebe's former opponent, and, if successful, Beebe will benefit versus his current opponent.

Hopkins in the common thread linking both Hathorn and Beebe to this. Hopkins is sly enough to think of it himself, but he's not going to take a leak without checking with Beebe.

No, Halter's people were not the only ones there. IN addition to attorneys for Halter and Clement, there were numerous reporters a representative from another campaign, the legal counsel for the Democratic Party, and two lawyers from the AG's office. My information came from a reporter who saw through the whole thing.

et al. We need to let the judicial system deside the outcome and leave the rest out of it. If they have done something wrong, they will have to answer for that themselves not me or you. I had $8K and would have laid it down. At the time I had health concerns and the knowledge that I couldn't see raising enough money to be competitive.

Yesterday when Pat Lynch had me on, I stated I was putting up signs for good Democrats and preparing for a trip to Poland. Where in that statement do you hear me saying I am raising money to defeat Bill Halter? I continue to be amazed by Mike Hathorn's tenacious candidacy to become the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor. He is kicking and scratching his way toward possible nomination by pulling out all the stops and attacking those who stand in his way. The current object of his torment is front-runner Bill Halter.

Hathorn has filed an ethics complaint against Halter, claiming that he violated state campaign finance laws 150 times by shifting dollars from his one-time gubernatorial campaign to his lieutenant governor campaign. Then there was the recent lawsuit filed challenging Halter's residency, which was filed by a law firm with ties to Hathorn's campaign.

I'm not against candidates playing rough. I figure if a guy or gal can survive the rigors of a campaign while being called every name in the book and simultaneously having his or her character smeared, serving in elected office should be a piece a of cake.

For those who think negative campaigning is a recent phenomenon, I would encourage you to read John Ferling's book, "Adams vs. Jefferson." The book is about the 1800 presidential campaign and details the accusations and name-calling traded back and forth between two of America's more esteemed statesmen.

Back to the modern age, it appears Hathorn has mastered the skill of going negative worthy of Adams and Jefferson. Again, it is nothing to be ashamed of, but is something, I think, he shouldn't be afraid to admit.

At an April Democratic Party debate, Hathorn was asked if he had ever run a negative campaign. He claimed that he hadn't, but drew the distinction that as long as one is raising issues and talking about the record of a particular candidate, it's fair game. In the same breath, he eschewed personal and character-based political attacks. He said they are wrong and hurt the process, the Democratic Party and isn't the way he does business.

He might want to check back to read his own campaign material and what others have said about it.

In 2001, while running against Jo Carson in a runoff to become the Democrat to fill the vacant 3rd Congressional District seat, Hathorn unleashed a bevy of accusations against his opponent. To put his tactics in context, America was reeling from the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

His direct mail campaign told Democratic voters to "Say No to Carson's liberal agenda. Say No to a weaker America. Now more that ever we need a leader that will make America strong, that leader is Mike Hathorn."

He repeated the mantra in an attack on Carson's supposed ties to the nursing home industry: "Say No to Carson's liberal agenda. Say No to the Fort Smith nursing home lobby. Say No to a weaker America. Jo Carson just hasn't been there for our families."

Bill Williams, the Democrat who didn't make it into the runoff, had supported both Carson and Hathorn, claiming Democrats couldn't lose with either one of them carrying the party's banner. But days before the runoff, Williams withdrew his support from Hathorn, citing his "baseless negative campaigning." At the time, Hathorn defended his campaigning by claiming that he was simply responding to Carson's negative campaigning.

Later that year, when facing Republican John Boozman, Hathorn used the usual attack lines claiming that the GOP candidate supported a risky scheme to play the stock market with the Social Security Trust Fund. Hathorn lost but gave Boozman a tough race.

Hathorn should embrace his history as a negative campaigner and not run from it. It remains to be seen if his current lines of attacks can win him his party's nomination.

In my opinion Hathorn is the most beatable of all the Lt. Gov. candidates. Why woulld the Republicans want to run against Halter and all his money? They don't. They also wouldn't wan to run against a conservative Democrat.

Hathorn's the only one with a past they can run against if Banks is their nominee. I think even Holt could have a shot at beating Hathorn at this point.

For you Democrats who just declared that Hathorn has lost your support because of an article by Sanders....shame on you. Don't you get it! Sanders is a shameful shrill and whore for the Republican Party and always has been. By dropping this "article" (that's a joke - he should of put "paid for by the Republican Party of Arkansas" at the end) today, in the midst of early voting, the Republicans have just showed their hand, Hathorn is the threat - and do you know why? Because Hathorn can pull enough of Jesus Jim Holt's base out of the 3rd than anybody else running. If Hathorn wins the primary...Holt loses. The business community and the sane Republicans in the 3rd will not hold their noses and vote for Holt.
Halter, Martin or Wooldrigde have virtually no name recognition in Washington/Sebastian and Benton Counties...these counties are in the top 5 democratic performing counties in Arkansas in general elections. Sanders and his puppeteers know this and that's why on May 10th, this article was dropped.

A vote for Hathorn means one more vote closer to beating Holt, and they know it.

And a note to Mr. Sanders, negative campaigning in Arkansas means personal attacks. Questioning someones residency and finacial disclosures is just asking for an even playing field. This from a guy who wrote an article that Asa must go negative. Save us from "liberal media" whores.

Why would the Rep's want to run against a conservative Democrat? That causes the chance of crossovers from people in the middle. I would think they would want Halter or Martin because they (Rep's) can clearly differentiate themselves from a more liberal candidate.

The woman and owner of the site, Kelly Flinn, had donated the website & the server to me, as reported on my financial reports. She owns Ambiguous Arts.

There never was an internet bill to fail to pay. Furthermore, she did not set up the "Failing to Pay" page because she has her own customized page. This was nothing more than an attack on me that oddly enough came when I rightly so challenged Mr. Halter's residency and raised it as a legitimate concern.

2) Lawsuits generally damage the filer when between two candidates
3) When you have overshadowing elections for Governor and AG, the vast majority of wins goes to the candidate with the highest name recognition.

First of all, seeking a Congressional seat is not the same as a statewide office in terms of ballot qualifications. The U.S. Congress has members who only have to be members of the district they serve ON THE DAY of the election.

This is how Bobby Kennedy, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and James L. Buckley to name a few were elected.

State constitutions are different.

Now the case could be made that I was not a resident. However, I maintained a residence here, lived here, and maintained my license as well as the right to vote in my home state.

I did not purchase a home in another state. After working for a campaign I returned here.

But either way - its not about my right to run but Bill Halter's right.

BUT the issue here is over Bill Halter owning a residence in other states and only returning for brief visits, not domicile residency in this state. Bill Halter has not lived here for seven years as prescribed by the law before filing.

Federal Requirements for Congressional office are only threshold requirements. A state government can impose additional requirments for their federal office holders. For instance, Joe Lieberman was allowed to run for VP and Senate at the same time, however some state have laws limiting the number of offices and individual may seek. Most states, including Arkansas, forbid a governor from also serving as a US Senator, as Huey Long did from 1931 - 1932.

LITTLE KNOWN FACTS ABOUT BILL HALTER

* After Drew Pritt attacked Bill Halter's residency, Pritt's electricity was mysteriously cut off. Service was restored several days later, when Pritt's student loan check came in. Larry Jegley is currently investigating.
* It's Bill Halter's fault that Pritt is a sophomore in college at age thirty, after attending five different schools. You see, Halter has stolen Pritt's transcript each time he has tried to transfer, resulting in his losing approximately three degree's worth of credit-hours.
