Huckabee: 'Not presidential' & 'Wanker'
The New Republic's blog says Gov. Mike Huckabee's action against us -- and the defensive rant he posted today on his government website -- is "not exactly presidential."
MIKE HUCKABEE--NOT EXACTLY PRESIDENTIAL:
Two weeks ago, the office of Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee stopped providing routine press information, like e-mails of news releases and notices of general press availabilities, to a local independent weekly called The Arkansas Times, apparently in retaliation for the paper's persistent criticism. Not surprisingly, the Times suggested it would consider legal action to restore access to these publicly funded services.
What's surprising is that, this week, the governor's office responded with a semi-coherent rant about ... well, about what isn't entirely clear. But suffice it to say that Huckabee has an awful lot of bile stored up for a publication he doesn't even consider a "legitimate newspaper." You've really got to read the whole thing to appreciate how unhinged he sounds. The tone is not exactly what the political pros refer to as "presidential."
In related news, Atrios names Huckabee "Wanker of the Day" on his widely-read national blog.

Does anyone except maybe Huckabee or his family think he is presidental material?

Wayne Dumond = Willie Horton
Save your money, Huck.

This whinning about Huck's not giving the Times red carpet treatment is grating on my ears. If there were a neighborhood dog chomping at the bit to bite my hand, I would quit feeding it. That doesn't mean that Huckabee doesn't need more snaping at; rather, it just means the Times shouldn't be suprised or even indignant. It's unbecoming.

Self inflated worth is right. This is getting sort of old. We get it, you are insulted...

To the above 2 posters: Oh please.
The Times should keep up with this until:
1) Huckabee adds them to the press list again.
and/or
2) Huckabee gets lampooned in the national media for his idiocy.
The longer the guv waits, the more painful his loss will be.

Yes, self-inflated, but more importantly self-inflicted. Huck has ignored the top two lessons for political wannabees, 1) don't get in a war of words with people who buy ink by the barrel, and 2) sleep on it, consult with staff before firing off an angry missive. Huck looks like an idiot, picking a stupid fight, making outlandish comparisons, appears consumed by the arrogance of office, and it's drawing national attention. Way to go, Mike... this could go down as one of the great case studies in how to self-destruct your own future ambitions.
Those media advisors are a dime a dozen, no way Huck can spin this as anything but vindictive. You just know the national media will want to warm up to his pettiness.
And while it's on my mind, how come the local media is doing such a sorry job of covering his incessant absences? Is that why he's gotten so secretive? Doesn't want to draw attention to the fact he's AWOL while Rockefeller is gone, too?
Granted, he's done some good with education and health issues, but his arrogant attitude ans sense of royal entitlement are what we'll remember.

Anyone have the link to the Rev. Guv's rant on "his government website"? Am I overlooking it?
thanks ...

It sure didn't take long for national-level players to correctly assess the governor of Arkansas. It's a shame the people of Arkansas weren't so quick to see through him. Kind of like the people of America and their slow realization of what GWB is really like.

Sorry, I just couldn't start without acknowledging that bizarre image. As a former horseman, the idea of a dog with a bit in its mouth is, well, an unexpected domestic animal version of cross dressing.
But more to the point, I heard Rex Nelson speak to the Rotary Club of Little Rock today and it occurred to me that both he and Huckabee are profoundly mediocre, but neither realizes it. Oddly, they are both plenty bright, but they got substandard college educations, which they were deceived into believeing were high quality, and have moved on not knowing the difference.
It is pathetic.
It is not, Huckabee's case in particular, in any way, presidential.

A dearth of diplomacy. Classless. Unstatesmenlike. And supremely childish.

You know what I'm thinking about just now? I'm remembering the time Max set us all straight when someone made fun of some in the Governor's family for being overweight. Max said we should leave the man's family out of this.
The Republicans love to talk about "character", and I think we have a good example of character here. In this world there are small men like Mike Huckabee who lack this nebulous quality called character, and there are large* men like Max Brantley who obviously possess it.
(*And I'm in no way referring to the men's physical attributes, though I'm confident Max could whip Mike in a fair fight.)

Make that "though I'm confident Max could whip Mike in a fair fight, be it a physical fight or a mental one".

If the AR Times isn't "real journalism", then why does Gov keep hounding 'the editor" of the publication? In my limited experience, editors are key to most journalistic endeavors (although, yes, I do realize that they are not limited to the strict news field). Why not just refer to Max as plain citizen or "head honcho" of the AR Times??
I'm still reading the whine.

The people of Iowa seem to think he's presidential. He's in first place in this online Iowa Republican Caucus poll -

If the choice is Huckabee vs. Hillary - I predict Huckabee will win.

Iowa? I think their days of ruling American politics are behind us.

He should accept criticism like a mature person, learn from everybody, and turn the other cheek.
But sadly, Governor Huckabee seems to be losing his way.
His May 2 notice is a stunning denial wherein his own paranoid state is ascribed to those he perceives to be his enemies.
Governor Huckabee wrote:
A tiny human flaw, unrecognized and uncontrolled by the afflicted, borne with plodding certainty toward a Shakespearean tragedy.

Online poll. Ah, how comforting when self-selected samples agree with our own biases.
Shame. In Iowa, no less, where George Gallup invented modern polling.

So sorry. My fault.
My post didn't upload properly. It left out the following quote:
Governor Huckabee wrote:
Especially in this situation, it is apparent "sour grapes" do indeed make a very pungent "whine."

wouldn't it be great if huck's black-balling of the arkansas times became his ultimate undoing? in 5 years, when his political career is in shambles, he'll be taking his morbidly obese family out to eat at the faded rose, and the times will be the first thing that greets him at the door, serving as a constant reminder of how he ruined his own career...ohhhh, colbert's on...later!

Huckabee is going to be on the Colbert Report tonight - Comedy Central!
It will be sweet if Colbert nails him on this!

"Wankler of the Day" ?
Hmmmmm, never had the impression that he was anything other than a "Wanker".
Can't believe I read his entire semi-coherent rant/diatribe but I did -- guess that makes me a dedicated tabloid reader.
I learned in 2000 that people can be duped into believing/voting "stupid" after all look at the "dud" who became president. What's to say they want be duped into voting another "under god we rule" Hitler wannabe tyrant into the oval office to continue the "dud's" rape and plunder.
What's a Wanker? A puritan who pours righteous indignation into the wrong arguments I suppose!
Leery? Damn Right! Just to many voting gooses out there that vote their emotions not their brains.
