In memoriam

Over at Daily Kos this Memorial Day there's a recapitulation of the service records of the chicken hawks in the Bush administration and their accomplices in the media, ever eager to send troops into harm's way. Bush is about the only one with military service. And you know about that.

Comments

Great Memorial Day read on the war hawk administration and media who never saw combat themselves. Thanks for finding that.
I loved it all, but especially liked this part:

In another time and place, some of today's not-so-brave might have elbowed little old ladies and children out of the way to secure a berth on the last lifeboat on the Titanic, or maybe they''d have ratted out resistance fighters to the Gestapo in WW2 France. But today is the eve of Memorial Day and this is America, 2006. Ergo, present day Chicken-hawks will pay their respects by milking the courage of war heroes [like Max Cleland].

Appropriate for this string.....

These 'chicken hawk' officials embody the old saying, "Let's you and him fight." Search hard, and you may find a few who do not personally profit from the carnage, and even those "exonnerated" few have backers who do. War is a racket, one that benefits only a few insiders. The rest, regardless of nationality or the uniform they wear, suffer horrible losses.

Sometimes, of course, circumstances warrant military action, or, at least, a show of military muscle. The best way we can honor our veterans, both past and present, would be to remove the economic incentives for warfare. Let's minimize the sacrifices of our fine servicemen and servicewomen by shutting down the war racketeer money machine. To do that, we must take on the racketeers. Let's roll.

Raise your hand if you're a peace-loving liberal but would love to meet Bush in a dark alley anyway. I'd ask forgiveness after kicking his ass until he cried for Mommy.

Roland! Bush is a personofied coward and would cry mommie before you kicked his ass.

Unfortunately, physically speaking, the bush mommie is the only one I would fear.

I'm a combat vet, brother of a wounded Iraq vet, brother of a current Navy officer, son of a wounded Vietnam vet, etc. but I've always considered military service to be just one of many factors to consider when voting.

Some of our best presidents have not served in uniform - FDR & Clinton to name two. There are also lots of other honorable ways to serve humanity and I respect people who do not take arms out of conviction.

That said, I have a special kind of contempt for Chicken Hawks. Those who value their own hides above all else, yet are quick to send other people's sons and daughters (often poor and/or minority) off to fight their (often ill considered) wars are stains on the flag I love.

Speaking of the flag I love, these same Chicken Hawks also diefy the physical flag while ignoring what it stands for.

Thank God that the tide is turning and a solid majority finally has their number.

Roland -
Sometimes ii's eaiser to ask for forgiveness than permission. Got your back on Bush.

This is the real Roland - I didn't post that previous message. Although I am sympathetic to the view.

Gentlemen, I'm plum tuckered out when it comes to talking about all the ways Bush & Company have screwed up American life.

I wasn't raised to be a radical. The fact that a lumpy old white guy like me represents the radical left would make me giggle like a little girl if I wasn't so pissed at all times. I am not so much a Democrat as I am rabidly anti-Republican. I am not a joiner, I am not fighting for my side or my team or participating in a penis length contest. I'm fighting to save my country from a pack of deranged loons bent on world domination.

This same pack of deranged loons who imply they have a mandate from God, who quickly announced Mission Accomplished and told the bad guys to BRING IT ON, promise us they have a plan. Urge us to STAY THE COURSE. Unfortunately they are the same people that took 2 and 1/2 days to find black people treading gator water in New Orleans. They obviously can't find their own ass with both hands and the NSA.

This pack used everything in their power and in their father's power to avoid military service in their youth. Now as old men they are playing Army with the lives of our kids. And doing it piss-poorly, I might add. I like Nintendo just fine, but not when the ripping flesh is real and there is no new hearts for kids in black body-bags.

I don't need a preacher or a talking head or a newspaper story to tell me what to think. I remember the old America. I remember what we held dear. I know the pillars that held up our world for centuries and I know Bush & Company have knocked a lot of those pillars down. And now they and their followers smirk at people like me that are not going away quietly.

I've got 2 great kids. There is no way I'm going to lay down and let Bush steal their future. If he thinks the insurgency is rough, let him try to put my kids in uniform for his war for oil.

I guess I'm pro-military and anti-war. I spend part of my time interviewing WWII Veterans, men who didn't have other priorities in their youth. Men who have had 60 years to think about "their war". And while they say we need to support our troops (whatever that really means) they are nearly to a man against the war in Iraq. Nearly everyone will wind up saying war is nuts.

We are at a crossroads and if big changes don't come this November, it's Game Over for the America we once knew. Next stop will have to be world domination or they'll all be coming after us and it will make Mad Max look like Barefoot in the Park.

I don't want to win. I want all of us to win. I want my country back. I want my pride back. I want our national honor back. I don't like us being the bully of the world. Torturers, killers, liars, robbers....hypocrites.

We'll never get back to normal unless we manage to wake up the sheep, get their minds off American Idol and get them to realize what a dangerous game Bush & Company are playing with our lives, our kids, our future.

Now I'm going to sound like a Baptist.....when you talk to your friends, family and co-workers, I suggest you tell them the good news! We don't have to live in BushWorld. We can get rid of the Republicans and faux Democrats like Lincoln and Pryor. We can vote Jim Holt back into the nut house. We can kill NAFTA, stop the war, get off the oil tit, ban lobbyists, reform our election laws, reform our tax laws, lower the corruption level.

But not without the help of the sheep. Not without a whole lot more people paying attention to the train wreck going on around them. Get jiggy!
