Where's the link to the voting machine disgrace?

Funny, haven't seen this anywhere:

Secretary of State Charlie Daniel's office will utilize media ads, as well as traveling mobile units with voting booths set up inside, which will set up in Wal-Mart parking lots, as well as Riverfest, county fairs and other public events, in order to educate the public about using the new machines.

I early voted today for the runoffs. I see that we are back to the old paper ballots with the magic marker (you connect the lines with the arrows). I thought it was a state law to use the computer voting?

For Memorial Day, since so many war movies were showing on TV, Cato mentioned most of his favorites, including Saving Private Ryan.

He asked about favorites of other posters on the blog, but I went blank and couldn't think of any. Then today one finally came to me, the obvious one. The only one I could watch once a month for a year: Patton.

In re educating the public on the new voting machines, I understand that was the plan until only a few machines trickled in early and then they were missing parts and/or programming unitl the last minute. Based on what I've seen and heard from various local voting officials, I'm inclined to blame the feds for implementing a law which led to state and local officials all rushing to buy the machines. A phased in approach would have made more sense -- assuming of course that these wonderful machines cannot be rigged or hacked.

Webpage of a Beebe Public School teachers states that their goal for the year was not "to kill any students." What would happen to a student if they had a webpage that made the comment their goal for the year was not to kill any teachers? Would they still be in school?

I see that a previous poster is spinning for our town drunk, Secretary of State Charlie Daniels:

If you want to get funny. Call the Prosecuting Attorney's office and asked them to give you a copy of this. I want to keep a tab on this.

Arkansas Ethics Commission

RE: Mike Hathorn Complaint against Bill Halter

Dear Mr. Sloan and Commissioners:

This office received a copy of the complaint dated April 27, 2006, filed with you regarding the various accounts pertaining to Bill Halter's campaigns for Governor and Lt. Governor of Arkansas. It is our position that any futher review by this office of the allegations should follow you investigation. To that end, we would appreciate being apprised of any findings you may make, inasmuch as the allegations are substantial if validated, and raise some serious questions, in our view.

Our inital evaluation raises a few questions we think the Commission should review, specifically ones of timing. That is, it would seem appropriate that the dates the various accounts ere opened, the dates of deposits, withdrawals, transfers between account, and the like identification of the individuals who handled the eforementioned transactions would likely help you develop a cleaner picture of what is a fairly difficult situation to evaluate because of fungibiliy of funds.

Thank you for you review. If we be of assistance, please advise.

Sincerely,

Larry Jegley
Prosecuting Attorney
Sixth Judicial District of Arkansas

"RE: Mike Hathorn Complaint against Bill Halter"

If this is an exact copy of the letter, the only thing any English teacher could say is "OUCH"! Obviously the language is in serious trouble in the Prosecuting Attorney's office.

I'd guess that someone typed the above from a copy of the letter. The letter above doesn't even hint at what all is likely to come of this. Halter's could be in deep trouble from what I hear.

I know that's right, English teacher.

We should all forgive some typos, misspellings, and other errors on a blog but if this went out as a letter from the Prosecuting Attorney's office, someone needs to...um...proofread.

Lawyers can at least write a grammatically correct letter, which the above is not.
Mr. Wooldridge, please get an educated staffer to put bogus letters on the blog in the future.

Nope, not "spinning for our town drunk, Secretary of State Charlie Daniels." Simply saying there is more than enough blame to go around. When you try to change the voting procedures throughout the country during one election season, essentially depending on two suppliers, you're asking for trouble. I just wonder how much trouble, of what kind and whether we rubes will find out about them or simply suspect the dastardly deed.
Incidently, after the rumor mill talks of an admittedly known-to-tipple judge who called the police to local nightspot because someone stole his steering wheel (he got in the back seat), you do tend to wonder about urban legends unless you trust your eyewitness or you've seen it yourself.

Worst (Some) of "Anonymous"
I thought I would waste a few minutes of my life - 15 minutes never to be seen again - and collect a few of the typical blog contributions by the bomb-throwing, name-calling, largely monosyllabic (but prolific) "Anonymous." I sought to weed out the more erudite musings of others who happen to weigh in anonymously from those that -- by style, cadence and poor grammar -- appeared most likely to be by our favorite "Anonymous." It wasn't hard to do.

I have noticed a significant decrease in the number of crap postings regarding the Lt Gov campaign. This seemed to be correlated with the May 23rd decision of the people to retire Mike Hathorn, so I assume that his paid bloggers are on break for a few days. No doubt, they will soon be in the employ of the Wooldridge campaign and will return to the list with recycled comments and bogus charges as we approach June 13th.

Quapaw, interesting that in your intelligent world view anyone who has a heart is also a COMMIE.

And it's old biddy, not bittie. You must be a Yankee or at least a city boy who never plucked a chicken but probably just finished choking your own.

Hey, Moro Hicks. You talkin' to me? I know it's "biddy" ... not "bittie." If you could 1) read and 2) comprehend what you just read, you'd know that none of that bulleted stuff came from me. I merely compiled it. Choke (and choke on) your own chicken.

Know my grammar,

The only thing bogus about that letter is the skill of whoever typed it into the blog. It is real, it is from Jegley, and it is on file with the Ethics Commission. But you already knew that, didn't you Bud?

Yes, thanks to the FOI, you can request a copy from the P.A.'s office and get one without typos, misspellings, or grammatical errors!

Queerpaw:

What the -? What's your agenda in clogging up this important board repeating such tripe? But, my appy-polly-logies for calling you a chicken-choker; you're just a manure spreader.

Just kidding. Joke's on me, I guess. Double-yoker.

Me thinks Moro Hicks IS "Anonymous"

You know, a couple of those comments compiled by Quapaw bring up a subject that really gets me. I'm a old-time Arkansas Democrat.

What is it about Republicans thinking they're the only ones who pay taxes? What is it about Republicans that makes them think only the "lazy, ignorant poor" want a government which provides basic health and living assistance to those who most need it?

Moreover, what allows these $65,000 a year "made good" Republican pricks to think they're the ones who a propping-up everybody? Put an "F"ing sock in it, kids. Next April--just as every April--I'll be paying a few million bucks in income taxes. And with a projected personal income this year of between 21 and 24 million bucks, I OUGHT TO.

I'll admit it. I think I'm about ten times smarter than the guy who consistently makes me a sandwich at Subway that falls apart before I take it out of the wrapper. But do I work harder, work longer? Absolutely not. What is it, then, that entitles him to make $7 an hour and me to make a little over $65,000 a day, 365 days a year--whether I decide to get out of bed in the morning or not?

Mr. $65k probably works hard, earns a good salary, and pays his fair share of the tax burden. But it's a buden overwhelmingly shouldered by people like me. (In 2000, the top 1% of earners paid nearly 40% of all the income taxes collected in the United States. We pay less now, thanks to Mr. Bush, but we still carry the load for everybody--including you, Mr. $65k.)

President-Elect John F. Kennedy paraphrased the Bible in a speech at the State House in Boston. It is a maxim which all poor-bashing Republicans would do well to remember: "For of those to whom much is given, much is required." (Or the Bible: "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required." Luke 12:48, KJV)

Whatever happened to observance of these commands which holier-than-thou Republicans extol? Whatever happened to the concept of noblesse oblige that was lived by our country's founding fathers? Moreover, whatever happened to being a decent human being?

Heights Democrat, hear hear. I think we should all find something like Maxine's Tap Room and have a beer. Preferably one in an ice-cold schooner.

". Hey I got an idea why don't you move to France, it is a country full of dumbasses just like you."

That was mine, so give credit to where it is due. It still applies.

Heights Demo -
Well, I didn't pay a million - last year, but damn close. You make some good points.
I constantly carp about how much I pay, but I know that it is my responsiblity as an American and a Christian and a Democrat to pay my fair share (for much is given, much is required).

And just for my information Heights - the generous tax cuts we got 4 years ago - have you been socking it away, being very cautious because of the huge debt and the fact the China owns us? Are you avoiding making huge cash investements in your business because of the Administration? I am, and I've talked to alot of Repubs that I work with who are following the same cautious business plan. Contrary to the Bush line that by giving the rich tax cuts, they'll invest into the economy. Not in my world - they don't trust Bush and the economic house of cards this economy is sitting on.

Since Bill Halter served as the Acting Deputy Commission of Social Security under George W. Bush, and this was his last and highest paid and highest profile position, why do people not refer to him as a Bush Administration official?

Am I sinning for lusting after a postpartum female Methodist preacher?

Attention Wooldridge staffers - pay attention to this advice about Bud Jackson.

Bud doesn't care about spin, blogs, or earned media. He uses it as a diversionary tactic. He cares most about paid communications.

I have this caveat from someone who knows him well.

Also Bud keeps tabs and holds grudges. So kill the dragon politically before the dragon politically kills you.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia May 30, 2006 (AP)- A man who apparently severed his penis in an attempt to convince his wife that he was faithful to her was recovering after surgery to reattach the organ at a northern Malaysian hospital, a news report said Tuesday.
The 41-year-old man, who was not identified, got into an argument last Friday with his wife, who found a text message on his mobile phone from another woman. The man was heard by his son shouting that he wanted to prove he was not having an affair, the New Straits Times reported.
The assertion was followed by loud screams and the man emerged from his room bleeding profusely, his 14-year-old son quoted as saying. His wife rushed him to hospital.

How do I go about getting a consulting job for those running for office ?

I notice Mac Campbell,Hathon,
Mcdanial gave thousands to
State Rep. elect Earnest Brown in Pine Bluff for consulting fees. The last look at Macs C * E report, Mac gave #30 K last month to Brown .
Also notice Rep. Chesterfield
is consulting for McDanial
on his last C & E report.

What do they do with these large consulting fees they charge ?

Deliver votes to the polling places. Hopefully for the canidate which paid them.

First you have to be black. Second you have to spread the money around to buy votes in the black community. If you can do that, they'll pay you.

I'd guess Halter is doing this as well. Some don't report their "walkin' around money."

"Who/Where/What is this website? This needs to be checked out! Please advise..."
The matter has been turned over the the White County Sheriff's office. One thing the teacher says is they never regret anything they do .Maybe they will be changing their mind about this.

Sounds great, Quapaw. I've had my fair share of beers at Maxine's. If there's an authentic dive in town and I'm thirsty, that's where I'll be.

And you're EXACTLY right, Walk. What has benefited me most is the President's reduction in capital gains taxes. I've been unloading real estate like crazy and putting the money straight in the bank. No re-investment in new properties; no unusual improvements made to existing ones. Rest assured, four years from now cap gains will be back at pre-Bush levels and if I buy back in now, I won't be able to unload them with anywhere near as low a tax burden under the next (and presumably more responsible) administration.

Hieghts, I hear ya. You can be sure that the Bush "tax cuts" were designed with this intent. Bush rewarded his base and the Corporations that funded his selection - calculating that when he left office, that someone else would have to clean up the economic mess as well as the mess he's made of the world. But, Bushes supporters mantra is and alway will be - screw you, got mine. And boy what a run they'll have under the 8 years of Bush.
I also trust fine sir that you are spreading some of the unintended tax cuts (Democrats aren't suppose to be in the top 1%) to the needy. There is a great food bank in your area.
