LR native wins TV's 'Top Model'

Danielle Evans from Little Rock last night won the sixth edition of UPN's America's Next Top Model competition.

Salon carries a recap of the drama:

Then it was down to Danielle, black, statuesque, charismatic but country vs. Joanie, blond, short, charming and country. And it was sort of over: The black girl from Little Rock, Ark., and the white girl from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, had bonded, and with crazy Jade vanquished, viewers couldn't lose. Still, there was one more drama: Would Tyra play Queen Tyra, arbiter of proper blackness, and disqualify Danielle from "Top Model" status because of her country accent? Tyra won me over in Cycle 3 by offering contestants (and viewers) many parables about how you embrace and make the most of your supposed limits -- Tyra's alienlike high forehead and big booty were Exhibits A and B -- and giving many speeches about beauty and confidence coming from within. But first she wore Danielle down about her gap-toothed smile, which was in fact a little ... distracting. But after Danielle fixed her teeth, the harping on the accent got grating.

In the end, Good Queen Tyra picked the country girl from Little Rock as America's next top model, and promised her speech lessons. Not a total victory for be-who-you-are top-modelhood but a start. "The best girl won," rival Joanie said simply, and she was right.

Evans will receive a contract to be represented by Ford Models, a $100,000 CoverGirl contract and a spread in Elle magazine shot by photographer Gilles Bensimon.

Congratulations to Danielle.

overpaid skinny broads....

Of the runner-up, Salon reports that Joanie is blond, short, charming and country.

Short???!!
She's 5-9. Danielle's 5-11, so I guess that makes her slightly taller than short.

Who cares?

Remember that lanky girl from Texas with the cowgirl Texas country drawl? Her name was Jerry Hall. She's walked international runways for decades, even after she married Mick Jagger. I call this bias about a 'country' accent pure bigotry. Of the New York variety.

She's hot....

good lord, grow some hair. yuk.

In response to the last post: If you watched the show you would know that Danielle really isn't bald in this photo.

Tyra is totally contradicotry, be yourself... but change your accent. Get with the program Tyra and make a firm stand, do you want the girls to be carbon copies of yourself or do you want them to be individuals?

anyways, The best girl did win and i'm happy for Danielle.

BIG THINGS IN THE FUTURE!!!!!!!

Tyra is hypocritical. She criticizes the judges when they rate the contestants against the standards of the industry; yet in person she knocks any contestant that isn't a cookie cutout "model". Lauren Hutton had a trademark gap and Jerry Hall had a southern accent. Tyra should be embracing diversity in the industry. Regardless, Danielle was my favorite from the first show and I was soooo happy she won! I, as a "Northerner" appreciated her charm, confidence, endurance, and grace. I wish her the best.

I'm sooooo happy Danielle won. She's so cute - I like when she said, " I'm a Covergirl Mama," I just love her personality and beauty. And Tyra hypocritical; she annoyed me so much this season.

i don't care who won. i am happy for danielle, but i was rooting 4 joanie, cuz jade was saying she wasn't on her level and if she went to a NY model audition they would laugh at her, and that she doesn't have a ligerie body. that would have been cool if joanie won.

Jade should have won. She was absolutely stunning, PERFECTION of a body and she was obsolutely amazing looking and an amazing person!!! Tyra has fallen so low in my eyes...Jade is what modeling industry is about. Tyra is an jealous idiot!...Do disapointed, Tyra has let go of unigueness, the stunning beauty, the overpowering presence and redicilous talent!!!...Idiots!!!

I liked Danielle from the beginning, and I was so happy when she won!!! I liked Joanie too, so I would have been happy whether either had won. But towards the end, I kinda liked Danielle just the tiniest bit more. But this was the first season that I ever has 2 favorites, usually I like one girl.
