Mid-term madness

The good news in the Washington Post is that many more incumbent Republican congressional seats, previously thought safe, are now considered in play this year on account of Bush's drag on the ticket. The bad news is that the incumbents know it and are hard at work, unlike 1994 when many Democratic incuments were caught by surprise. It's a long way until November.

It's a long way until November.

It's funny, though. Once people catch on to a con man, everything the con man does to try and win their favor back just makes them madder at him.

I think a lot of people have caught on to the Right's knee-jerk issues now, and are less likely to be swayed by them over and over.

Probably just wishful thinking on my part, but it's all I have. It IS a long way till November. Bush could drag them down even further.

"I think a lot of people have caught on to the Right's knee-jerk issues now, and are less likely to be swayed by them over and over."

I don't know, people seem to fall for the same thing over and over again. The repugs are good at the politics of fear. They are good at scaring voters about terrorism, abortion, guns, gay people, black people, brown people, poor people, etc.

...people seem to fall for the same thing over and over again.

That has been true the last 30 years, but I don't know if it's hard and fast for eternity. I think all things tend to run in cycles. It's quite likely that, when people have had enough, when those in power get too abusive, the worm turns. It's kind of the "fool me once, shame on you..." deal (the one Mr. Bush has such trouble wrapping his mind around).

I just don't think we can, necessarily, give up and expect people to be fooled forever. I have to believe they eventually wake up, get interested, and take action to move things back toward the center. Then they go back to sleep until things start to tilt and wake them up again.

Things are tilting now and I really believe enough people are waking up to make a difference this November. If not, then I, ever the optimist, predict they'll really be mad at the Republicans by 2008!

Election day - Tuesday may 23rd.

Let's try to make your vote count

If there is a paper ballot in the precinct to vote on, use it. if there isn't, file a formal complaint. Keep in mind if you're offered a 'provisional ballot' many are simply thrown away.

Complaints, to have bearing, must be filed with the local election commission AND to the state board of election commissioners.

Call the Sec. of State's office with complaints as well. 501-682-1010.
