"Bad Ideas, No Leadership"

That should be Campbell's slogan. I've yet to hear of one good idea from that kid.

I think Max summed the race up best in his last coulmn.

Pulling the lever

For state treasurer, I'll vote for Martha Shoffner, a former legislator. We need more women in public life. We also need fewer politicians, like her opponent Mac Campbell, intent on serving billionaires first. If Campbell so ardently supports giving the 18 richest families in America repeal of the estate tax, how else will he serve them to the detriment of everyone else?

Yeah, right, let's elect the capitol tour guide.

Since when is being a woman a criteria for holding office? Are you voting based solely on gender?

Has anyone else noticed the NASDAQ has just enjoyed its greatest fall since 1994? Is the smoke clearing? Are the mirrors cracking? It is not inflation that we should blame. It's rotten management and robbery by anyone who has access that is sinking our boat.

I'm reading "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man."

It is soberly depressing. It's about an ex-CIA agent who did dirty work to keep countries poor and indebted to us through terrible acts.

For your interest, the first few lines in the preface:

Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and other "aid" organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet's natural resources. Their tools include fradulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as the empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization.

I should know; I was an EHM.

I wrote that in 1982, as the beginning of a book with the working title, Conscience of an Economic Hit Man. The book was dedicated to the presidents of two countries, men who had been my clients, whom I respected and thought of as kindred spirits--Jaime Roldos, president of Ecuador, and Omar Torrijos, president of Panama. Both had just died in fiery crashes. Their deaths were not accidental. They were assassinated because they opposed that fraternity of corporate, government, and banking heads whose goal is global empire. We EHMs failed to bring Roldos and Torrijos around, and the other type of hit men, the CIA-sanctioned jackals who were always right behind us, stepped in.

Buy the book if you want the truth that you don't want to believe.

That Mac Campbell masquerades as a 'Democrat' blurs any meaningful distinction between the two major parties. Of course,
Sens. Lincoln and Pryor are doing that on a much higher level. Little wonder so many are confused and/or turned off. I appreciate that Max highlighted Mr. Campbell's position on the estate tax--it made my choice for treasurer much easier (Schoffner).

I woudl love to hear what people are doing this weekend.....the weather is supposed to be hot.

Farmer's Market?
Greek Food Festival?
Paws in the Park?
Paddling?
Lake?

For once, let's try to stay away from politics.

I'd like to point out that Theodore Roosevelt tore Stephen Colbert up in the interview the other night on the Colbert Report.

(Tip: Don't read Theodore Rex. Read The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. Much bette bookr!)

Quiz: Which poster on this blog could easily be the Eddie Haskell of the Arkansas Times site?

We're headed to the submarine tomorrow. Has anyone ever been? It surely looks to be interesting.

The sub is great...gets a little warm down there in the summertime. Wear flat, closed-toed shoes to avoid hurting yourself.

Definitely a fun place to take the family...have a great time!

I'm headed to Conway's Master Gardeners' yearly plant/shrub/tree sale tomorrow. There's always good stuff, good prices and lots of nice/informed people.

Family gathering later...food, drink and fun (horseshoes/darts/torture mom)...WHOOPEE!

Our Farmers' Market opens next weekend...can't wait!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Likewise, zelda.

What is happening with the landfill and Coleman dairy stuff. The road improvements thru that area are taking longer than the loop around Sherwood. Seems smelly. Why can't the dump be done when it is full. There is a creek right in the middle of the site. Water is the next war . Nevermind oil. Colemans can't you donate the land to UALR or the city for some tax relief.

I will take the Capitol Hill Tour Guide over the D.C. Intern Boy any day of the week. Then again the Capitol Hill Tour Guide served three terms in the Arkansas State House of Representatives. She served as Chair of the Finance Committee. She actually drafted bills and voted on them.

The D.C. Intern Boy gave $2,000 to a Senate candidate when he was supposedly getting Financial Aid as a College Student.

Substance and Style over Wannabe and Wish He Was any day of the week.

I woudl love to hear what people are doing this weekend.....

Going to see Da Vinci Code.

Patrick,

You usually have a thoughtul analysis of things. I'd like to hear your review of the DaVinci Code.

RE::Are you voting based solely on gender?

And what if I am? That is my choice, at least for now.

Proudster,

I'll assume you are a male (sure hope your not a female). No offense to the other guys, but only a male would only point out her brief service as a tour guide recently. She did that because she loves this state and loves public service. She could have been selling real estate but she chose public service.

Proudster (Mac) left out a few things so here they are. I'm too lazy too type them all so I'm copying and pasting them from http://marthashoffner.com

LOL, Pritt is posting anonymously again. The language in that post is almost verbatim from an earlier defense of Shoffner he wrote in another post.

Except he put his name on that one.

I am loving this weekend....got the grandbabies here and as soon as I am off work tomorrow we are grilling out and playing in the pool. Sunday it's church and more grilling out and playing. Next weekend it is Riverfest - Dwight and the Doobies. Perfect weather.
No bitching about the hated WalMart, no rants about the corrupt Republicans: nope, I am just going to enjoy my family and set me worries aside for a couple of weeks.
Have a great week, fellow blogsters!

This weekend I'm going fishing with Mike Hathorn, clubbing with Win Noble, herbing with P. Allen and looking for Woody with Wallace Stevens.

How bout choo?

Hey Zelda ...In naming all the things you are gonna do this weekend don't forget your Saturday meeting of The Arkansas Communist Party. You are the incoming Chairman aren't you? The Head Bolshivic? Do you all meet in Hillcrest or Quapaw now?

Anonymous 0116, if you don't quit playing on that computer and go to sleep I'm calling your daddy.

I'm going to hear Rev. Betsy Singleton preach on maybe the last weekend before she's out on maternity leave.

Not much talk about state legislative races here. I'd think it important for several reasons, but my main concern is who will encourage wise environmental resource management and generally give a damn about the planet. Here are what I think would be candidates worth considering from that perspective.

State Senate Primaries John Paul Capps, Robert Thompson, Hank Wilkins, and whomever is running against Bob Johnson. For the Republicans, neither Bill Pritchard nor Jim Bob Duggar have ever shown any indication of concern for anything except themselves.

State House races: Kathy Webb, Sam Higdon, Chalk Mitchell, Diana Worthen, Kathy McFetridge, Doc Shelby, Ed Garner, Basil Joiner, and Georgia Ross.

Perhaps there are others who are especially good or bad, but it seems to me that very few candidates even discuss environmental issues. That likely reflects their assessment of its importance, both for the candidates and their constituents.

I looked into the eyes of all the District 37 candidates, and I voted for Kathy Webb. Here's hoping she avoids a run-off.

Im gonna wait till someone here finally tells me who is drew pritt.

"Im gonna wait till someone here finally tells me who is drew pritt"

He's a guy that "Proudster" has a thing for apparently. Proudster claims that all who disagree with him are drew pritt.

For the love of god, Tina, how many times are you going to ask who Drew Pritt is?

There is a great new website called "Google." (http://www.google.com)

Go there, type in "Drew Pritt", and click "Google Search".

Are you illiterate? My name is "Prouster" not "Proudster". Jesus, learn to read.

I just went and picked up for strawberries at the farmer's market, went and voted for Suskie, Hathorn, Martha, Blackwood, Griffin, Corbin, Jordan and Doc, and now I think I will throw back a couple beers and read a book on the covered porch.

Any reviews on the Da Vinci movie?

In Benton County. Just got telephone polled by an automated system.

" . . . press 2 for Hawthorne . . . press 4 for Woodridge."

The girl's recorded voice on the call mispronounced Hathorn and gave Tim a brand-new name.

This is why women should stay out of politics and stick to the hair salons.

"This is why women should stay out of politics and stick to the hair salons."

With no female state officers I'd say they must be doing just that.

What makes you think that these mis-pronuciations were not intentional. The Halter campaign was notified last week that if they were going to run a poll - it's Hathorn -
The Halter campaign is the most deceptive underhanded campaign I've ever witnessed. And there is down right lying.
Sitting at a forum - last week Halter stands up and says he was with the Clinton Administration for 10 years - do the math - he lies, there is something fundamentally wrong with Halter's character - pathological, insecure, short man complex, this guy has it all. I rarely say anything about candidates, but my dealings with this guy have given me a fundamental uneasiness about him. He may have fooled the press, there are lots of people who do good interviews, but Halter has not fooled me. Been around way to long and meet way too many Halters, not to give this character a wide berth.

Max is right. We need more experienced women in office like Shoffner and less politicians like Campbell.

Anonymous, THe first two sentences of your statement sounds like you have the IQ of a door knob. I was there too. Halter said counting his work in the Governor's office, he had worked Clinton for about 10 years. You're not only inarticulate, you're also unfair.

Bill Halter has strong ties to the internet pornography business.

He's on the board of Akamai Technologies

Akamai Technologies also had long-term business relationships with purveyors of teenage pornography and Internet-based offshore gambling operations. It was "using university networks to help deliver content for Web sites featuring teen pornography and potentially illegal offshore gambling."

I wish his campaign would address this issue. Gambling and Porn, no wonder he wants to bring back the lottery.

Complete and total bullshit, D. Foster.

I'm not D Foster

Are you denying that Bill Halter sits on the board of Akamia technologies?

Are you denying that Akamai Technologies is active in teenage pornography?

Are you denying that Arkansans have denied the lottery several times a decade?
