The day the music died
Jim Harris' Little Rocking blog reports on the demise of Big Downtown Thursdays. Mission accomplished, says the city.

It happens when you start borrowing coats from James Dean.

Downtown Thursdays suffered the same fate as the rest of the rivermarket seems to have met...and that is the whole place is nothing but kids and bikers. They buy one beer and set there. The River Market area lost the adult crowd. The only good thing left is the once a month Classic Car Show on Thursday or Friday night...

I remember enjoying the Rivermarket 3 or so years ago. Going down there at night and hanging out at Flying Saucer with friends. Now it is too crowded and too loud. I honestly get a little scared walking around.

This blog is nothing more than a petri dish of whiners, complainers and negative energy.
It's getting a bit tiring ...

I agree. I don't like Bush, either, but I'm giving it up. Every day, the same old, same old. Do any of these people have real lives?

Nobody goes there anyway- it's too crowded.

Could be the end of Great Downtown Thursday means it's the first victim of the new smoking ban? There is less and less reason to leave your home as more places and events become homogenized to suit the religious, politically correct crowd, insurance companies and the do-gooders.
And congratulations to deathbygrinches, his type in Germany in the 30s guaranteed there'd be a Hitler. When things get really bad, that's always the time to quit.

While it's truly disappointing that Big Downtown Thursdays won't be happening this season, let's hope that the powers (or, sponsors) that be find a way to bring them back in the future. On a positive note, the current River Market Calendar of Events doesn't point to any lack of activity in the pavillion or the park.
