News release

Clinton Center To Celebrate 4th of July with Food, Festivities and Free Admission

(June 28, 2006 - Little Rock )---The William J. Clinton Presidential Center will host its first annual Family Picnic in the Presidential Park² on Tuesday, July 4.  In celebration of our nation's 230th birthday, the Clinton Center will be open free to the public and will offer extended hours, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. The first 100 visitors to the Clinton Center will receive a free watermelon from Hope, Arkansas.

In addition to offering free admission, the Clinton Center encourages families to bring their pets and picnic in the Presidential Park.  Food, games and music will be available. "We want families across Arkansas to see the Presidential Park as a fun and inviting place where they can relax and enjoy the scenic view of Little Rock,"said Stephanie Streett, Executive Director for the William J. Clinton Foundation.

Within the Presidential Park, food vendors will be on-site selling snow cones, hot dogs, hamburgers, Hillary's chocolate chip cookies and a variety of drinks.  Several lawn games, such as croquet, horseshoes, Frisbee and badminton, will be set up throughout the park for visitors to use.

Throughout the day, a presidential re-enactor will be making special appearances inside the Clinton Center.  Niel Johnson will be portraying our nation¹s thirty-third president, Harry Truman. Johnson will re-enact the issues and decisions of President Truman and his administration with three shows inside the Garden View Room at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

For the holiday, the Clinton Library will be open from 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m., one hour later than usual.  Besides the picnic, families can take advantage of the library¹s newest attractions: the audio tour given by President Clinton and a special exhibit entitled Happy Trails: Cowboy Heroes of the Silver Screen.

Additionally, Sturgis Hall and the University of Arkansas Clinton School will be open for tourists and visitors on July 4 from 9a.m. to 5p.m.  The Clinton School students are doing their summer public service internships in locations around the world, including the Sudan, Vietnam and Bolivia.  They will be returning in August, along with a new class of students.

To purchase memorabilia and collectibles of Arkansas¹ favorite son, visit the Clinton Museum Store, located in the heart of the River Market between 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

How funny that the "first black President" would give out watermelons.

ARK. BLOG He is from Hope, home of the watermelon festival.

Wish they'd say who the vendors are. Some of those burger vendors down at Riverfest were pushing absolute crap.

Thanks ARK. BLOG for the correction of Anonymous' stupid ass comment.

We hear that Monica will be there wearing the "navy dress" and signing photos. That and the melons should assure a nice attendence.

To those of you with a CD burner, a burning desire for a mix of music and plans for throwing a July 4 party, I hereby offer you this list of possible tunes (this isn't "traditional" or "patriotic" stuff for the most part and you may wander why I included certain songs. That's because I wanted to):

4th of July -- John Doe/X 4:07
Rockin' in the Free World -- Neil Young 4:42
I Am a Patriot -- Little Steven 3:29
America -- Simon and Garfunkel 3:33
4th of July - Dave Alvin 4:35
American Music - Blasters 4:44
4th of July (Asbury Park) - Springsteen 5:34
The Revolution Starts Now -- Steve Earle 4:23
Know Your Rights -- The Clash 3:42
America Is -- Violent Femmes 2:10
America Is My Home -- James Brown 3:23
Crime To Be Broke In America - Spearhead 4:51
Ashes of American Flags - Wilco 4:44
Private Revolution -- World Party 4:03
4th of July -- U2 (instrumental) 2:11
I'm So Bored with The USA -- The Clash 2:25
Independence Day - Springsteen 4:49
4th of July - Soundgarten 5:08
The Walls Came Down - The Call 3:44
This Land Is Your Land -- Woody Guthrie 2:36

Neil Diamond's "Coming to America," John Mellencamp's "R.O.C.K. in the USA" and some others are way too obvious. So ... there. Hope you enjoy if this can be of any help.

It is a good thing that the Clinton library is in LR. Hillary and Bill are not as adored and the rest of us are not as eraptured with their 'greatness' in the rest of Arkansas.

Yes, but the real question I want to know is if we can spit out the seeds in front of the library?

How are you going to get diversity when all you serve is watermelon?

I thought you knuckle draggers just ate the seeds.

I'd say watermelon eaters are a pretty diverse crowd. Tey the festivals in Hope and Cave City.

What we got here is a failue to diversify. If Bubba wants to have a watermelon eatin contest then Bubba gonna get one. Holy machel der Andy.
