Head rolls
So what about the Democrat-Gazette's report on the Huckabee sacking of state Department of Emergency Management director John Brackin? Was it for the crime of telling the truth about the state's lack of preparedness to the federal government? Was it for not adequately informing the governor in advance of that assessment or telling the governor something different? Was it because the state's preparedness is embarrassing to the future presidential candidate?
A thought: If there are shortcomings in the state's disaster preparedness -- and even the governor seems to concede that -- do you think maybe some responsibility lies with the man who's been the state's chief executive -- with hiring and firing authority over management of the emergency agency -- for just shy of TEN YEARS. Isn't that enough time to straighten things out?

Oh come on. Huckabee may be in charge, but he can't *do* everything. Ultimately he has just done exactly what he can and should do - hold people accountable for their employment.
ARK. BLOG Absolutely. But 1) Ten years is past due for accountability in any state executive department. 2) Here, the accountability is for uttering unpleasant truths, not for failing to do something about them.

For example, holding Lary Zeno accountable for his employment?

John Brackin is a CLASS ACT and the state will be worse off without him working on our behalf. Can't say that about the Governor who is neither a CLASS ACT nor will the state be worse off when he is out of office.

How dare you speak ill of Asian Mike Huckabee out searching for the Temple of Toyota! He works hard at dieting and climbing steps of borrowed aircraft on his quest for personal gifts, free meals, lodging and anyone who will dump money in his PAC.
He leaves the state as often as possible knowing he's the number 1 target of terrorists and by staying away he's making Arkansas safer. He's taking his insurance agent good looks and impressing several as he travels the globe looking for the Japanese econo-box car factory that will save the Delta.
With Asa as his successor, Huck knows that all that successful Homeland Security knowledge known only to Asa will make Arkansas the safest state in the Union. It's almost as good as having Bernard Kerik himself watching over us...after he pays his fine and gets out of prison.
Not only that, with former head of Homeland Security Tom Ridge leading the fight from his seat atop Home Depot Inc., duct tape will be readily available in all Arkansas Home Depot stores. And no doubt if Huckster should fail in his bid for the White House, President Frist will appoint him to some high office making sure Arkansas is cared for, nay nurtured by future Republican administrations.
I say fly on Mike Huckabee, practice your love with all nations of the earth. Gift up there, so they'll not be gifting you here. And be sure they check that left engine at every stop. The youthful inmates of the Lord's Ranch are praying for you! They don't really have a choice.

Righto, Maxwick. Firing a guy for acknowledging a problem doens't look good, but I doubt many in the state will see that and give a shit.

The Governor was unhappy because he had several meetings with John and John told him things were going well, then he turned around and told DHS that they weren't. That is what I read. DHS didn't think it was as bad as John had led on to them either. Maybe it had to do with being told one thing and then being sideswiped by a different report to the feds. This is pathetic reporting at its best MAX. You are not so dumb as to not be able to read what happened.

Are you a professional, full time sideswiper? Maybe just a hit n' run type like when your boss tells you to.

Hey DBI...Max wants you to shorten your posts. They are so long and boring that his ratings are dropping faster than Beebe's poll numbers.

50 years ago today President Eisenhower signed the law that funded to Interstate Highway System. This is one of the most important things ever by a leader of our nation. We salute him for making this wonderful system a huge convience for everyone's daily lives.
Of course he was a fine Republican.

And 50 years to the day after Eisenhower signed the Interstate highway bill, I would like to urge all Arkansas Republicans to get in their cars and celebrate our fine Interstate highway system by driving to Utah and staying there! Thanks Ike, glad you're not alive to see what's happened to your party.

From "You Should Really Read . . .": "The Governor was unhappy because he had several meetings with John and John told him things were going well, then he turned around and told DHS that they weren't."
From the cited article: "At issue was a self-assessment agency employees completed early this year at the request of the U. S. Department of Homeland Security that Maxwell said he did not know would be made public."
The key words seem to relate to "employees" completing the self-assessment. This doesn't sound like something that would normally hit the desk of the agency director.
Isn't it also possible that progress was being made -- a plan being compiled but not ready to be implemented, for example? County judges who worked with him seemed to think Brackin was doing well.
If I were guessing, I'd say the RevGov flew off the handle.

Since you asked, my plans are to lighten up 50% after this November and then lighten up another 50% after the '08 elections.
Then I will devoted the rest of my life to an over 50 sex blog and never think or say another thing about politics for the rest of my life.
