Yeeeeeeehaw!
I downloaded it TWICE off iTunes just to spite creeps like Toby Keith and G. Wingrove Bush.

not big fan of their stuff but the
song Lullaby is beautiful.
as for country music- aren't y'all
tired of canned pap sung by
cretins in black cowboy hats. these
guys look like they couldn't ride
a hobby horse, let alone a real one.
country music is willie nelson and
he doesn't get any airtime on
their stations.

I'm not a big fan of country music, but I think I might buy this one.

Dixie Chicks are a disgrace...s---- them
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 07:01 AM
No, the disgrace is the man they criticized and the knee-jerk redneck reaction to their criticism.
Posted by: widj | June 1, 2006 07:08 AM
Moments like this are so SWEEET I savor every honeyed sip! The bubblodytes on Clear Channel's numerous country radio stations have been spewing their hate-filled lies about the Chicks' career demise for too long! My god, the nuts threatened to kill her and her family.
Natalie was right--Bush is an embarrassment; and it looks like the Chicks' talent has trumped the Bush Babies' radio station owndership...ahh, too bad, so sad.
I'd buy it if I hated country music!

It is an awesome album, and everyone should enjoy something on it.
"aren't y'all

Yes - that's why I listen to the Dixie Chicks. They aren't in this classification at all. It's also why I went to Dwight's concert at Riverfest, but you couldn't pay me enough money to go see Toby Keith.
There was an excellent interview with the girls on NPR last week. It was a true "driveway" moment for me; I stayed in the car until it was over. You can hear it at npr.org.

What an album! What a talented group of women! Funny how, as the Time article pointed out, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Eminem, Kanye West, Pearl Jam, Pink, and Neil Young have all attacked W and not suffered the like the Chicks. What difference does it make if she made the statement in London, LA, or Nashville - she was right. I loved Tim McGraw's comments that " it's possible there's more than one thing going on" when referring to the way they have been treated by country music. Jealousy? By the way, I read where Toby Keith proclaims to be a conservative Democrat - God help us all. We don't need ilk like him.

zelda..you old bittie (biddie to liberals) why don't you go out to the electric cowboy and tell them what you think...they will run your ugly old body out on a rail back to Hillcrest...lol

Zelda - I think Anonymous has a crush on you!!! Watch out! :)
It reminds me of a playground situation where the silly boy doesn't really know how to engage in conversation so he pulls the girl's hair or hits her with a dodgeball or something.
And, I bet the folks at the 'Lectric Cowboy LOVE the Dixie Chicks and don't give a rat's ass 'bout most politics. Plus, many are probably drunker 'n a skunk and would be too busy asking you to dance to argue.
Classic Country song dedication to Anonymous - If I Said You Had a[n "ugly old body"] Would You Hold It Against Me?
Posted by: Liberal and Proud | June 1, 2006 08:33 AM
Good for them. I don't particularly care for country music, but I'm glad to see there are some fans of that genre that make decisions on their own and don't buy into everything being told them by some right-wing DJ.
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 09:11 AM
The Dixie Chicks were bashing Bush before it was fashionable. They were ahead of their time then, and they are again with this new release. Good on 'em!
Posted by: Catmando | June 1, 2006 09:16 AM
I listen to both kinds of music (country AND western), and in spite of their personal politics, I still like the Dixie Chicks.
Most of what the so-called "country" stations like KSSN are playing these days ain't "country music" anyways, so their opinion counts for zilch.
Go get 'em Natalie... you told us that Bush was a rat way back when, but folks wouldn't take your word for it...

One minute they chastise him, the next time they apologize now they go back to their original chastisement. They can't make up their minds. 'Chicks' is an appropriate name for them.

Ha...I'd love to take credit for inspiring anon's silly and monotonous ways but, alas, that great mind was popping out those gems long before encountering my charming liberal ways!
I'll betcha anon loves Hill, too!

I think- after reading these postings and listening to samples of the Dixie Chicks- that I will buy their new CD. Sounds like a good album.
The "aginners" made me do it.

Ann'oy--You old battle-ax, MAN that was 'groovy.'
You old backbiter, 'COOL'! This is funnier than skip-rope.
You old hellcat, hellion, hussy, madcap, muckraker, nag, ogress, more yuck's than hopscotch.

I think the chicks could probably care less about GW at this point in time. What they've done is garnered a bucket-load of attention and press that translates to all the suckers above buying their album.
Pretty smart.
Posted by: Uz all Suckers | June 1, 2006 11:05 AM
If you buy it and like it, are you a sucker? I think not.
Posted by: LRCitz | June 1, 2006 11:46 AM
Uz is right.
I don't think they planned this PR campaign back when she spouted off, but man, they sure are trading on it, now. On Larry King last night, the VAST majority of their time was spent on this crap with comparatively little discussion of their new "strongest album yet."
For the record, I have the same problem with Toby Keith as I have with the DCs.
Shut up and sing.
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 12:12 PM
I am buying it and the newest John Prine album. Both are great.
Posted by: pj | June 1, 2006 12:33 PM
I bought it, and it's good, very good. But don't go expecting country music. This CD isn't.
Posted by: Odell Goodrum | June 1, 2006 12:45 PM
Anon,
Then shut up and plumb. Or shut up and lawyer. Or shut up and deliver pizzas.
I care less about what the Chicks have to say about politics than I do about Wynonna's fat ass, but they've got the right to say it. As this blog indicates, we all think we do.
The Chicks' statement about Dub-ya rolled off of me seconds after I heard about it. Who care what Natalie thinks? But by golly, I'll fight anybody who says she doesn't have the right to say it.
I'll get my politics from those Sunday morning fellas (and you great bloggers). I'll get my music from the Chicks and others.
Posted by: Sparky | June 1, 2006 12:53 PM
I do hate country music, but I bought their cd to show my support for EVERYONE's right to free speech. Turns out, CD is pretty good and that's coming from a metal head.

Every time I read a post from the vitriolic anonymous I just want to shake my head, and begin wondering if we could get someone to spike his/her coffee with prozac each morning.

I met Natalie Maines several times back before she hit superstardom. She's a bit salty. Can outcuss any man. Can get downright gross when the conversation turns to sexual topics. And, in her younger days at least, was quite the playa.
But she's not as stupid as she might seem. I'm not saying her political views are any more reasoned than the average joe, but she's not just some blonde popping off either. She has some substance.
Hate Natalie if you want, but let me tell you that her daddy is a helluva guy. Lloyd Maines has done more for country music than Natalie ever will.

"She's a bit salty. Can outcuss any man. Can get downright gross when the conversation turns to sexual topics. And, in her younger days at least, was quite the playa."
That is a real endorsement. We have such a shortage of people like that today. I think that I will run down to my nearest record shop and buy, buy, buy anthing Chicks. I hope my daughter grows up to be just like her----blond, stupid and a big mouth.
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 02:02 PM
Take an Ex Lax, Sparky, and re-read my post. I think your knee-jerk response misses my point (which is pretty much the same as yours).
I never said she doesn't have the right to speak her mind, I just don't want/have to listen to it on topics I think she has no credibility.
She's paid to sing and entertain, not run her yap about politics. Neither am I, and that's why my co-workers, friends, etc. don't hear it from me.
And the new John Prine is most excellent.
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 02:06 PM
Anon,
As I said, hate her if you want. I think you are probably good at that.
She can sing, so I will listen. You can stick to listening only to Amy Grant CDs.
Posted by: countryfan | June 1, 2006 02:08 PM
'Hate' and disagreement are not the same terms. You gravitate to the extreme.
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 02:16 PM
As do you
Posted by: countryfan | June 1, 2006 02:21 PM
Well, I am not a country music fan and was not aware that it generated so much anger. I prefer the 'Beach Boys' but I don't think that I would lose my shirt over someone not liking their music.
Boy you guys are really emotional here. Disagreement is not welcome.
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 02:26 PM
Nothing wrong with the Beach Boys.
Posted by: countryfan | June 1, 2006 02:27 PM
Back in 2003 I was against the rush to war. The need hadn't been proven to me.
I said to all who would listen that time will tell if Natalie was right or wrong. I guess Natalie was proved right. She is lucky that people remember about it after she was proven corect.
My luck, I would catch all hell at the time and then when time proved me right, no one would remember what I had said.
Posted by: citizen | June 1, 2006 02:41 PM
There are no better or truer americans than the Dixie Chicks. Bush is trully an embarrassment to our national honor and our national integrity. Thanks, Dixie Chicks!!!!!
Posted by: Midge | June 1, 2006 02:46 PM
So what was proved right that Natalie said? Until all is said and done no one can say definitively that pulling out of Iraq would be the right thing to do. I don't need some ditzy broad doing any masterminding for me.

No, you'd rather have the Turd Blossom do that for you.
Is that some sort of 'liberal code'?
Posted by: Anonymous | June 1, 2006 04:19 PM
I've taken my Ex Lax (not sure why I needed to but maybe I'll lose some weight) and apologize to one of the Anons if I misinterpreted his post.
I agree there is no requirement whatsoever to listen to Natalie's Politics and I do not suggest she has any credibility.
I will pick up the new John Prine. I'm a fan of his as well.
Posted by: Sparky | June 1, 2006 04:20 PM
Turd Blossom is the nickname Bush has for Rove.

Apology from Natalie Maines
As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I now realize that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect.
I hope everyone understands, I'm just a young girl who grew up in Texas. As far back as I can remember, I heard people say they were ashamed of President Clinton. I saw bumper stickers calling him everything from a pothead to a murderer. I heard people on the radio and tv like Rush Limbaugh, Pat Robertson, Newt Gingrich and Trent Lott bad mouthing the President and ridiculing his wife and daughter at every opportunity.
I heard LOTS of people disrespecting the President. So I guess I just assumed it was acceptable behavior.
But now, thanks to the thousands of angry people who want radio stations to boycott our music because criticizing the President is unpatriotic, I realize it's wrong to have a liberal opinion if you're a country music artist. I guess I should have thought about that before deciding to play music that attracts hypocritical red necks.
I also realize now that I'm supposed to just sing and look cute so our fans won't have anything to upset them while they're cheating on their wives or getting in drunken bar fights or driving around in their pickup trucks shooting highway signs and small animals.
And most important of all, I realize that it's wrong for a celebrity to voice a political opinion, unless they're Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels, Clint Black, Barbara Mandrell, Loretta Lynn, Ricky Skaggs, Travis Tritt, Hank Williams Jr, Amy Grant, Larry Gatlin, Crystal Gayle, Reba McEntire, Lee Greenwood, Lorrie Morgan, Anita Bryant, Mike Oldfield, Ted Nugent, Wayne Newton, Dick Clark, Jay Leno, Drew Carey, Dixie Carter, Victoria Jackson, Charleton Heston, Fred Thompson, Ben Stein, Bruce Willis, Kevin Costner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bo Derek, Rick Schroeder, George Will, Pat Buchanan, Bill O'Reilly, Joe Rogan, Delta Burke, Robert Conrad or Jesse Ventura.
God Bless America,
Natalie

Left hand: Dixie Chicks debut with the Number One ablum after concerted bashing from the Elephant Echo Chamber.
Hmmmmmmmm!

Country music radio industry is run by cowards, and so-called country fans are not much better. Iit looks like the Dixie Chicks are about to teach them a lesson.

This sounds like a person after my own heart:
''She's a bit salty. Can outcuss any man. Can get downright gross when the conversation turns to sexual topics. And, in her younger days at least, was quite the playa.
But she's not as stupid as she might seem. I'm not saying her political views are any more reasoned than the average joe, but she's not just some blonde popping off either. She has some substance."
I bet she's a LOT SMARTER than some think. There are lots of extremely smart women that are just as you describe her, because they are too smart to buy into all that "womanly behaviour" that is pushed onto them by those that prefer women to be meek and easily bossed around.
I may buy the CD just for that reason alone. I heard one song on a TV show the other night and loved it, maybe I will like the rest. Not a country music fan, except for folks like Willie, but I could make an exception here.
I like substance too, regardless of the genre.
