Leading Democrats get down with evangelicals. Are Dean, Clinton and Obama onto something?

Comments

The Republicans have used the language of religion, worn it on their sleeve, and done quite often the opposite of fundamental religious principles. I hope both the evangelicals and Democrats are getting smarter about all this, but not in the cynical way Republicans use the religious. Heard Obama this morning on CNN talking about the "progressives"--- a good strategy that connects to the true republican [small r] values of this country. What real progress we have made as a society, from the creation of the Constitution forward, has been based on such revolutionary and reforming principles. May they once again resonate as in the phrase of Lincoln, 'the mystic chords of memory will once again touch the better angels of our nature." And, using religious phraseology, may it come speedily in our time.

Dean, "The gop is pretty much a white christian party"

This resonates with Christians. He has a snowball's chance in you know where of attracting repubs with his "fake religiousness" (or have we all forgotten Dean's pathetic 2004 attempt to 'act like he likes Jesus', per his staffs leaks... give me a break!)

"fake religiousness"

Is the heart and soul of the repub party of Pharisees.

Haven't we had enough of the Repugs hijacking Christianity with their feigned, convenient morality?

I know that the issues the Democratic party stands for can be complex, but I think that the media has had enough of the rhetoric just as we have and will be open to more substantial commentary from party leaders if we just give it to them. (Enter Bill; they will put him on the air for an hour... at a time...)

We don't have to pander on the same level, not to say that we shouldn't altogether. I think there is a market for thoughtful policy. Democratic ideals are more Christian-like than the Repugs'; I think the American people can be receptive to them.

Wholesale demagoguery will get us nowhere but blogging, bitching about another Republican president.
We must take care not to manipulate the emotions of the electorate the same way Bush did, or else we will undermine ourselves in the long run. We are in a position to build something lasting and strong and based on ideals. I'm not saying it will be easy, I'm just saying its necessary and it CAN be done.

I find it amazing that someone can love and believe in Jesus and George Bush at the same time. Few men in history are more opposite. Faith might be a good thing at times, but Bush is an excellent example of faith being turned into blinders and weapons.

Oh please, Lord God in Heaven, make 35% of American voters smarter by this November. And please smite those we do not vote like me.

Anyone who possesses any degree of maturity and just a little bit of political savy can see through something as horribly obvious as the democratic attempt to pick up some votes with Christians. They know that to win in 2008 they must register somewhere above the basement if Mrs. Clinton has a chance of getting elected.

Ah yes, MSC. Only good republicans can be Christians.

Well, this "yellow dog" Democrat, tomorrow, will add you to the prayer I say every morning for Bush and his administration to make the right decisions for our country and the world and not just for political gain.

So far either God or the administration hasn't listened or acted, but I'll keep on praying whether you think Democrats can be Christians or not.

I'm a yellow dog too and my faith has been the foundation of my life. I don't have to stand on a moutian and yell it, I'm required to live it. The Thugs who take the cross of Jesus and hide behind it with dirty tricks and swift boating and then get up on Sunday and praise the Lord - will have a whole lot of explaining to do. Don't have the time or inclination to write name the namest...but they know who they are.
And it's about time we started taking about our faith. There's a 50% chance the Sunday worshipper sitting next to you is a Democrat.

Well, I guess that we should cease our worship service and spend more time ascertaining the political inclinations of our worshipers next Sunday. All of these comments seem pathetic. God doesn't care about our political affiliations, he cares about whether we love and obey him.

I have to hand it to the democrats. Trying to get a piece of the religious vote is certainly a reach for them. They must be desparate to win.
