Swift-boat him not

A Republican chickenhawk (George Allen) promoted as a presidential candidate made the mistake of impugning the patriotism of his Senate opponent over the flag-burning amendment. His Democratic opponent, Jim Webb, won the Navy Cross in Vietnam and a Webb spokesman let Allen have it.

"While Jim Webb and others of George Felix Allen Jr.'s generation were fighting for our freedoms and for our symbols of freedom in Vietnam, George Felix Allen Jr. was playing cowboy at a dude ranch in Nevada," Jarding said. "People who live in glass dude ranches should not question the patriotism of real soldiers who fought and bled for this country on a real battlefield."

Good for Webb. We need more people standing up to these pseudo-patriotic attacks. One of Kerry's biggest mistakes was not taking on the Swift Boat lies like Murtha took on deferment-ladened Cheney.

Most of the administration neo-con hawks aren't fit to shine the shoes of true patriots like Murtha, Kerry and Webb.

I hope Webb kicks Allen's sorry ass out of the Senate.

Hmmm..'glass dude ranches' ha! Sounds like a place monkeyboy resides.

Anyone ever outright asked The Huckster why he didn't have the cajones to raise his right hand?

He and Asa and David Sanders, for that matter, come from generations that held numerous solderis (Vietnam & Gulf I, specifically) and are pretty vocal in supporting others die for their ability to remain pompous.

You know, David - you're still not too young to raise your right hand. Follow the lead of someone like Rick Fahr of STFU!

one of the abiding mysteries is
how all these combat veterans
[webb, murtha, kerry, cleland, justice
stevens] become traitors in their
next jobs according to GOP dogma.

justice thomas attacked justice
stevens for his "unfamiliarity with
the realities of warfare.?

must have been news to Justice
Stevens who won a bronze star
in WW Two. Thomas, of course,
didn't serve.

Observations:
It is always amazing that those who did not serve can suddenly or eventually gain sufficient stature to comment on the motivation of those who did.

Why is it that those who served are not validated until they are wounded and awarded a big hero's medal.

The major burdens are carried by the rank and file, many of who are killed in action and thus eliminated from the future decisions of this country. Most of the every day Joe's not killed or permanently maimed and disabled simply return to a safer home land and continue with a normal life as either Democrats, Republicans, or what ever.

The Republican chickenhawks have no shame. The only way to deal with them is to kick them in the nuts, sort of like Jim Webb just did. That's why you lost, Sen. Kerry--you just stood there like some deer in the headlights. Thanks for wasting so many people's time, energy, and money, and for giving us four more years of these murderous villains.

We should all memorize this line: (quoting from the article)

"It's been said that Democrats aren't willing to fight back in campaigns.....well, we're willing. We're not letting them get away with it."

Hell, yeah! Every time the lying liars attack, Democrats must be willing to fight back.

Bravo, Mr. Webb.

Arkanblogger...did you serve in the military?

I am a conservative and I say go Mr. Webb!

I too am sick of Republicans or anyone else attacking war heroes patriotism when they did not have the balls to serve themselves.

There is no room for this behavior in honest political discourse as well as no room for much of the hatred that comes from the left.

"Thomas, of course,
didn't serve."
He was too busy leaving pubic hairs on Coke cans. A job clearly appropriate to his skills and talents.

Here is a comment from a guy who did serve in the war. Just where is the proof of this allegation. Thomas was accused by a highly questionable female and the information she provided was not accepted as the truth. To this day, no shred of evidence exists supporting her allegations. Just another lynching of a black man.

Allen will fit right in this abode:

The evidence against Clinton regarding the Monicagate DNA evidence proved beyond a doubt that Clinton was guilty. However, you persist in assuming guilt for Thomas when NO evidence exists. Why is that?

ARK. BLOG 1) what does Clinton have to do with any of this? 2) read this book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0395633184/102-4623175-2260104?v=glance&n=283155 and tell me there's no evidence. It's the Jane Mayer/Jill Abramson account of the Thomas hearings and it's an eye-opener. Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! I believe Anita Hill.

re: Anonymous (aka David Sanders)

"Did you serve. . ."

Yes, unlike you, I have the courage of my convictions. It's not too late, Dave. Sign up. If you belive, like you say you do, in this quagmire.

Thomas did not serve in a war. The only current Supreme Court member to do so was Justice Stephens.
As to the allegations. The fact she was a female seems to bother you doesn't it? Do you have problems with women?
Highly questionable? Nothing you spit out has any veracity do you think everyone else operates without principles?
It was only accepted by Republicans and a few liberal Democrats who couldn't see beyond the antics of a self-loathing black. The technical term is internalized oppression, but I would not expect you to understand the concept behind that.
As to the shred of evidence. I know someone who worked with Thomas who said the Coke can incident was only the tip of the iceberg of this man's depravity. Oh, by the way, my friend is black in case you think there's a racial angle here.
You are consistently a pathetic judge of character [Bush, Cheney, Allen, Thomas,...]. Must be nice to bat 1,000.

I believe Anita Hill.

Oh, my, did Webb have to go down that road? Nothing like creating a mountain out of a molehill and making himself look bad. Webb is fighting an uphill battle in Va. Putting his name on this, now, will only serve to immunize Allen later. Webb went too far, too fast, and will probably save Allen's seat for Allen. Bad day for us. Color me Dem, but not proud of the way this has been handled, because it doesn't play well with the moderates in the middle.

With comments like this by Webb, Allen will be looking good for the White House - since he looks like he'll cruise to a 10 to 15 point victory in the fall.

Tough for Webb to make this claim when Webb SUPPORTED Allen in Allen's first senate run. Allen has not done ANYTHING to merit being ousted from office. Webb is looking like a desparate Dem (who was once a Repug).

Damn republican trolls...ya'll don't fool anyone.

Once again, I point out that the tail of the political animal swings both ways. Now we see southerners and westerners leaving the GOP and becoming Democrats. In VA. S.C. and UT.

Webb is an example. It is said..".Webb SUPPORTED Allen in Allen's first senate run." Yea, so what?

McCain opposed the shrub in '00 then supported him after a swift Swift-Boating by Herr Karl. In '04 McCain all but kissed the root of the shrub, guess he learned a humiliating lesson.

Allen has done EVERYTHING necessary to be ousted from office. He is a panderer with a wierdo smile that makes me think that maybe there is something to that human / alien hybrid story.

I don't think you've provided evidence here for anything except that the Arkansas Times should not be taken seriously. Number of blog entries which allege that Allen impugned Webb's patriotism: 1. Number of responses which are incredibly angry about Allen's impugning of Webb's patriotism: approximately 20. Number of links in original blog entry that actually provide evidence that Allen impugned Webb's patriotism: zero.

This is not journalism; it is simply recycling Democratic claims without scrutiny while subjecting Republican claims to very high scrutiny. (And you do it again in your comments section for some reason, with respect to Anita Hill.)

If I were a public official I would be very wary of deeming you not a part of the legitimate media. However, behavior like this is basically not very different from you getting on your hands and knees begging not to be taken seriously.
