Disability declared

AP reported today what we neglected to mention earlier this week. The governor and Senate president pro tem Jim Argue both were notified after Lt. Gov. Win Rockefeller's return to Arkansas that Rockefeller currently was unable to perform the duties of office Arkansas law doesn't require such notification in the case of the lieutenant governor, but the message was sent as a courtesy to the other officers, both of whom have been out of state this week. Rockefeller, who returned after unsuccessful bone marrow transplants at a cancer center in Seattle, is being treated at UAMS. With the top three officers unavailable, House Speaker Bill Stovall serves as governor.

God bless you, Win. You have such a big heart, I wish we had more folks like you.

There is not a smidgen of class or caring for the State of Arkansas or her people in the little toes (or anywhere else) from the current candidates - for ANY office.
Ditto the sentiments, Winfan.

All I can say is bless his heart.

God bless you, WR, you are a giant among men.

Looks like Huckabee would return home to be the GOV of Arkansas, while WIN is having treatments, Good Luck LT GOV Win Rockerfeller god speed brother .

Give 'em hell, Win...

I was especially hurt today to learn that he's only, like, 57 years old. Hey Zeus, so young. (that's Jesus to those who don't speak Espanol...and those who've visited other threads know I've found a half-full bottle of brandy in the cupboard tonight.) I hope someone is letting him know how much we, even we, care about him and wish him the best.

I'm also reminded of his dad, who died way to young. Even as a kid I knew Republicans were bad, but Winthrop Rockefeller was okay. My mom interviewed him for the local paper once when he visited our little town, and I've always had a warm feeling for him since she told me he'd had a few drinks before the interview. Makes me think of CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow.

I'm glad W. Paul Rockefeller is with us, and wish him and his family nothing but the best.

I was "raised" Democrat, though I didn't understand all that that meant. My grandfather once sneered (this would have been about 1957 or so) that he had never voted anything but Democrat and never would. He was dead (after a long, productive life and many children) before Winthrop was elected governor, and as much as I had loved and respected my grandfather, I was curious about this Republican. He didn't seem like any kind of devil to me. Maybe that's when my distrust of labels began.

I thought then, as I still do now, that Arkansas was blessed by the random presence in our state of the Rockefellers. New York had Nelson, but we had Winthrop, who seemed much more a gentleman than a politician, even with baronial powers.

WPR has not disgraced his family's name or reputation. He clearly deserves our prayers and respect, and our best wishes in his current struggle. God love him.

I was about 13 when WR's elected career began. In my tiny lower Arkansas town, WR's name was a sneer among the rednecks & racists. It wasn't until much later that I learned why.

I understand that WinPaul was a good deal more conservative than his father and for that he probably would not have gotten my vote. But, he's a principaled conservative unlike the crew manning the Republican party nowadays.

I think he would have made a competent and respected governor.

Best of luck WinPaul.

Win, you are a great leader, a great man, an asset to this State, and above all else you are a great friend!! You have the prayers and support of the Great State of Arkansas. May your legacy live on, forever. We love and respect you...

I know a little about stem cell transplants. I had one. My disease is lymphoma. I know that it is preceded by high dose chemotherapy that kills your immune system. The transplant put back stem cells that ideally graft into the marrow and you grow a new immune system absent the cancer. If it does not work you have no immune system and are vulnerable to any bug. If grafting was the desired result not obtained the future is bleak...bless you Win. A whole state stands by you and prays for you.

If anybody in the LG office reads this blog (and we know you do) I hope ya'll let Lisenne and them know that our sincerest hope is the expidited recovery of the Lieutenant Governor.

Respect and admiration of such a gentleman and philanthropist cannot be contained within party lines.

We're glad to have ya'll back home in Arkansas.

god bless you win. we're all thinking of you. no doubt you would be the next governor.
we love you

When i was in grade school in 1968 we took a field trip to the state capital and got to tour the Governors office , and Governor Winthrop Rockerfeller was there he invited and let .my buddy David Shaw and I sit in his chair . then he gave us a BOX of ROCKS remember when they give the children thoses boxes of Arkansas, minerals ,rocks and crystals when they would visit the state capital? I still have it , it one of my most prized childhood memoires.
Good luck to the Rockerfeller Family. we are pulling for your recovery.
