Gun battle

Fox 16 reports one dead and another wounded in a shootout on the parking lot at McCain Mall in North Little Rock. We think we heard the end of a Channel 7 report saying a third person was wounded, too, but they have nothing posted yet.

The new Ft. Thompson mega gun shop is due to open on Warden Rd about a mile N of McCain Mall on Wednesday, not a moment too soon, so we can all arm ourselves prior to the next visit to the mall. Was the shooting by an irate motorist being solicited by one of the Bucket Brigade volunteers at a busy intersection on a too hot afternoon?

Just a typical afternoon of activity from some wannabe gangstas.

Clearly, this is Gov. Huckabee's fault.

The Gov? No way. Probably Bush's fault.

Have you idiots no shame?

Someone's child is dead, another kid is in critical condition, and you want to make fun?

A pox on all of you.

I heard it was Bill Halter and D. Foster battling it out. Why the mall though?

PJ,
If their parents had done what needed to be done when they were munchkins, they wouldn't be involved with murderers today. The murderers wouldn't be running rampant in LR if their parents had done what needed to be done.
Mumps are back because some children weren't innoculated. No serious pox, yet.

Darwin at Work. Now if the cops can catch the shooter and get those worthless pieces of subhuman garbage off the street before the propigate.

It's the parents' fault and Our Fault. (Our = society's)

I'd bet my vinyl copy of Time Out that the worthless pieces of subhuman garbage who were involved in this were first babies born into unstable circumstances. They grew up without love and support. Of course they turned out the way they did.

I can contrast them with my personal knowledge of children raised by gay parents (not foster) in a very safe and loving environment who got a full ride to college. They're not shooting each other, and they didn't turn out gay. How about that?

I've basked in a week of liberal advances only to be kicked in the gut by the guy I was supporting for governor. He sold out.

I'm not gay, but I am a person. I started off as the union of sperm and egg, which is all any of us did. I'm just lucky it was my daddy's sperm and my mama's egg. Sometimes it doesn't work out like that. I didn't ask for any of my circumstances, but it looks like mine were better than those of the people involved in this story.

I have several acquaintances whom I would describe as neo-conservative, and I'll bet you do to. I think we should take the opportunity to honestly inform these people as to the the mistake we would make (we = society) by writing a discriminatory law into our constitution.

I know there are other threads that cover the Beebe announcement. But I think it applies here, too.

Did you mean procreate?

If they catch them, who will they let out of the jail to make room for them.......

Since we no longer hold people accountable for their behavior, we will probably see more aberrant actions displayed. I appreciate what law enforcement does; however, we can not depend on the cops/police/911 to protect us. I want the freedom to carry my weapon to work, to play, to grocery shopping, to the mall, to church, to everywhere....I not concerned about the environent from which they came; I not concerned about the parents who have abdicated their role as parents; I am not concerned about their mental status. Compel each one of them to be accountable for their actions, no exceptions.

Yeah all we need is more people out there with road rage and a weapon.

Those who exhibit road rage, like the rest of us on the highways, already have a weapon: the vehicle. Those of us who choose to comply with the law should be in a position to defend our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those who elect to engage in criminal behavior are not too overly concerned with the law or with carrying a weapon. And, too, we have a large segment of our society walking among us who should be in mental health facilites, getting the requisite treatments to address their conditions. I am not a fan of big government; however, we do need a more aggressive police force; and private citizens need the ability to protect themselves until police assistance can arrive.

With no disrespect to Chris Taylor's family, if it is the yound man of whom I think, should not be surprised by his being shot. In my opinion, Chris has always needed help and structure in his life. If I were the parent, I would have sought testing and counseling for my child. The adults in his life were more concerned with the labels on his clothes than his behavior or his success as a person. And, in my assessment, if he survives, he will not change his behavior----that is the scary part. There are those who have such a disconnect from reality that it's hard to believe they are fully human......

Honestone,
So the answer to a large segment of our society walking among us who should be in mental health facilites is to to arm ourselves. Come on that just gets people shot. More Guns = More people getting hurt.

Anon(12:54)----you know the cliche: guns don't kill people, people do. Those citizens who are responsible with their firearms will not utilize them in a frivolous, careless manner. People who are mentally ill are not by definition dangerous; however, there are those dangerous people who are certainly dealing with some serious issues, and many are not getting the treatment(s) to rectify the problem(s). Those who pillage the streets to deliberately harm others in the most disgusting way deserve grave consequences. Trust me, I am not advocating a return to the wild-wild west but we need to be more proactive to our approach to horrendous criminal behavior.

The incidence of people who have concealed weapons permits using them in an improper way is virtually nil. People who take the time to acquire the permit are responsible people.

Also, statistics show that violent crimes decrease in favor of non-violent crimes in states with shall issue permit laws. The reason is simple. Criminals are aware that their prey might fight back. God made Man. Sam Colt made him equal. Some of you may think that's outdated or macho b.s., but criminals don't.

The converse is true as well. Take England, for instance. They are not allowed to defend with firearms, so criminals are not afraid to break into a home that are occupied. This almost never happens in America, because criminals are smart enough to know they might come out in a body bag.

I'm casting pearls before swine, no doubt. But it would do some of you well to note that your assumptions about firearms in the hands of responsible citizens are incorrect.

You reallky need to check your facts...

Do I? Why don't you disprove what I said? Oh, that's right, you can't.

"You reallky need to check your facts..."

Great argument. You really destroyed me with that one. Which facts? How about the incidence of at home burglaries in England versus America? Go ahead and disprove that.

What a dufus.

"You reallky need to check your facts..."

I have. That's why I'm able to cite some and you can only say I should "reallky" check my facts.

Holy shit! I was working Saturday! I wondered what was going on with all the cop cars and stuff.
Up the security for the sake of the employees, please! This shit is bananas!

Another one of those NRA's ......

Yes, I'm really sure that the shooter was a card carrying member of the National Rifle Association. Why not blame Remington as well?

You post your facts but I reallly don't see much truth behind them. Englands statics say different things when you really get into them like that greater gun ownership causes more homicides.
Look at the statics for violent crime in England. Are crimmnals really that terrified of guns, or do they see them as just another particularly portable and saleable item that they can steal or use to commit more crimes.

After reading the morning headlines, I discovered the woman who was kidnapped yesterday was abducted from our neighborhood. Well, had she a gun, once she was released from the trunk of her car, she could have introduced her abductor to his maker. I don't know her or the person who she visited but am grateful she was not physically harmed/abused.

Giving her a gun would probably increase the chances of being hurt.

Not is she used it when making her exodus from the trunk of her car. I don't recall the paper alluding to her being frisked by her abductor; therefore, accepting this premise as valid, she could have protected herself. And, too, that late at night/or early morning, he did not take the time to do a full body search. Take him out....

And unless the kidnapper is fataly wounded by her.He will probably get his gun out and shoot her. Instead she got away with no gun and no one got shot. Thank god...

Yes, I am glad his cowardly behavior did not create any long term damage to the young woman and am thankful no one was hurt; however, if she had a weapon, there is a chance she could have removed him permanently from the scene. I don't make excuses for my life, I execute choices; and am not in the business of making excuses for those who choose not to accept ownership for his/her life.

You're belief that not having a firearm makes people safer is foolish. Anyone who has been properly instructed in self defense with a firearm and carries one is safer than someone who isn't.

This B.S. about criminals not being afraid of firearms is wishful thinking. If that's not the case, do you really think criminals obey police commands out of respect?

Wow. Why am I wasting my time.

Go ahead, don't protect yourself. I hope I don't read about you in the paper one of these days.

The young man you was in critical condition, Chris Taylor has now PASSED because of gun violence and because of ignorance
