Huckabode II

There's nothing to do but scoop ourselves.

This week's print edition of the Arkansas Times, now in distribution, has an Insider on rumors that Gov. and Janet Huckabee were preparing for post-gubernatorial days by buying a large home on Silverwood Trail in North Little Rock's Shady Valley. His terms ends in early January and he's said he'll take a job then as director of the Ouachita Baptist University's new Center for Education and Public Policy.

Multiple sources said they'd been told Huckabee was preparing to buy a house in Shady Valley in the $500,000 range. But no deed transfer had been filed  as we went to press and we hadn't narrowed the home search.

Today, we completed the job. The governor closed this morning on the purchase of a house at 1134 Silverwood Trail, North Little Rock The sellers, Jerry and Billie Neal, who are in the business forms business, were to close their end of the deal this afternoon. It was a FSBO transaction. The Neals have bought a house in Maumelle.

The 6,400-square-foot house (4 BR, 5 BA, 2 1/2 BA, two kitchens, swimming pool, deck) sold for $525,000. We understand the quiet and upscale neighborhood's streets should provide a good training ground for the governor's jogging jones.

The house might seem a stretch for someone who's been making $75,000 or so a year. But the governor has been peddling books on the side and his overhead, thanks to taxpayers, has been virtually non-existent for 10 years. He also is completing  the sale of a cottage at Lake Greeson for a price reportedly in the range of $380,000.

The gas mileage to drive an SUV from NLR down to Arkadelphia daily will eat The Huckster alive, however. Maybe Bro. Suhl -- he of the Lord's Ranch and of the $8.5 million in state Medicaid business -- can supply that need, as he's done with jet service for The Huckster's presidential travels.

P.S. TO GOV: Don't forget that the $70,000 worth of furniture supplied to you by Boe Adams stays at the Mansion. This is the stuff that you first said was yours. But then you agreed it was state property to get out of an early ethical pickle. We have an inventory, still, if you need a memory refresher when you pack the moving van.

P.P.S. Just for fun we looked back at 2002 election results. This precinct went 57 percent for The Huckster while the county as a whole was going almost 55 percent for Jimmie Lou Fisher. He'll be among friends. Had he moved to Arkadelphia, he'd also have been in a county that went for his opponent.

Thousands of children die of preventable deaths every day around the world. Yet this so-called Christian thinks buying a half a million dollar home is a better way to spend his money. So much for "Christian" values. He better hope his "get-out-of-hell-free card" theory of Christianity is right. If my theory of Christianity is right, he'll be paying for this abomination for eternity.

Oh now.....God blessed him with that money...of course that would mean that God wants children to starve so former preachers can live the life of luxury.

You non-believers just don't get it.
See, God made us the way we are.
He knows we need things but he knows we desire things too So what better way to lead the poor than to set an example of what is possible IF you embrace the Christain way of life.

Just look at the Waltons, Tysons and Stephens families. You don't see none fo them at pagan gatherings do you?

Now if a little fellow from Hope can do it so can anyone else and that's all the message of his large, new home is really about, just a testament to the Lord and the wonderful blessings he can bring.

Oh, please. Huckabee isn't doing anything different than Bill and the Righteous Hillary did when they left the Governor's mansion and the White House. Children were starving then so I guess the Clintons are just two cold hearted, hypocritical, self serving politicians. I didn't hear any wailing about their conduct from the AT.

LWood are you trying to be sarcastic or what?

I'm sure all the children dying in other parts of the world just need to be motivated by such disgusting waste.

I don't condone anyone buying such a house (I think they lived in a very small house when they lived in LR), but at least Pres. Clinton is active in trying to help children around the world.

You sound like a child using the excuse that everyone else is doing it mommy.....

The house-thing is possibly forgiveable/forgettable, but the commute from NLR to Arkadelphia is not. Everyone on earth is dealing with climate change in very real, scientific, and certain terms - no matter they're geographic location, income, race, or beliefs. Reducing emissions should be somewhere at the top of everyone's list. Ignorance is no longer an acceptable excuse. Everyone knows about global warming, the difference between us is the degree to which we know about it. Liberals, moderates, and conservatives owe it to their children, nieces, nephews, and friends' children to see the movie Inconvenient Truth and begin the education on the crisis of our time.

I just realized something.

President Clinton concerns himself with starving children.

Gov. Huckabee concerns himself with fat kids.

Hey, as long as Jethrene is happy!

I doubt he'll be communting. You assume that he will actually work. He never does his current job. Also a 6,400-square-foot house is not exactly enviroment friendly. It's not only a disgusting waste of resources, but will also use a large amount of resources. Meanwhile, children die all over the world.

"Also a 6,400-square-foot house is not exactly enviroment friendly. It's not only a disgusting waste of resources, but will also use a large amount of resources."

Good point. Scratch the forgiveness.

"Oh, please. Huckabee isn't doing anything different than Bill and the Righteous Hillary did when they left the Governor's mansion and the White House."...Think again II

Oh, please, the Clintons aren't ordained Baptist ministers like the Huckster who supposedly follows the teachings of a man who owned no material goods and spoke against such. Wonder if the Huckster has preached any "sell what thou has" sermons lately?

Guess this new house is about as nice as the house Faubus built after all those years making 10 thousand a year as Gov of Arkansas. From the looks of the house on Lake Greeson, Huck should live in the new house a couple of years and then spin it to a worshiper for a million five or so. He could add real estate dabbling to his Presidential resume.

And of course he'll not have that long drive to Arkadelphia every day. He'll just show up at OBU now and then when the school needs to trot out it's version of a giant panda for visiting dignitaries to see. How low on the scale are you when Huck is your prize panda? Personally I'd rather look at dried up old Ellie Mae...where is she when Arkansas needs her?

But yada yada, the era of Huckabee is about over and few will mourn. Please let God and Allah and the rest of them have already blessed Mike Beebe so he'll not turn the Gov. Mansion into a brothel just to get his goodie fix.

Hahahaha. Good one blog! Get those crooks on the personal prop.

_______________

Mike and Janet Huckabee? In Shady Valley? Hehehe. Perfect fit.

That FSBO cut out some serious commission to some hard working sales person. Remember that real estate agents when you vote gop again. Also, here's hoping that the huckers new house has a ton of liens on it...

Over the years, I've noted quite a few houses built or bought only to hit the market again within the year or two. Being of a cynical nature, I've always figured: Uh huh, empty pockets.
But maybe I'm overly discounting the generosity of Hucka-Friends.
I assume, just for the heck of it, you folks will keep an eye on this situation.

And, just for fun, whose $$$$ bought the post-presidential palace in NEW YORK? Bill wrote a book, Hill wrote a book, and we still pay for security. Vote 'em in and watch what happens - at all levels, no matter which party!

"My Life" brought Bill a handsome $5 mill ADVANCE..Hill got a nice advance on her book too. That makes for a good down payment on a home. But what the hell here we go screwing up things for the wingnuts with facts. Forgive me.
Get back to your hatefest.

So, books buy houses. Who pays for securiity for the Clintons and the Huckabees? Once a politico, always on the public dole.

All I can think about is how many folk it will take to keep the house clean. Dang! There's a lot of square ft. to dust and mop, etc.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no!!! Give us 10,000 registered sex offenders -- anything but The Huckster and that horrid wife of his.

I really, really don't care where he lives, as long as it's not the governor's mansion or the White House.
And maybe if Jethrine has to clean her own house (ha) she can lose some pounds and get to be as healthy as Huck proclaims to be.
Nice house, plenty of room to take in some foster kids.

Good. Huckabee deserves such a fine house, especially after dealing with idiots such as the YDs that write this rag.

Why don't y'all attack your savior Bill Clinton. He has Millions in condos around the country, all spread out for him banging his whores.

I don't see y'all dogging him!

Clay, NLR...sorry to see this. Feelin' for you...

At least it's a big enough crib that he can squish his band (...plays in a band but doesn't dance...) in the garage...

And the Mersus can put some Hanke love all over that brick...

Hey, folks, quit bashing the Rev/Gov over the fact that he is buying a house for a cool half million dollars. Get off his case, you all, for him being a "minister" and not following God's edict to sell what you have and give to the poor.

Remember, he's NOT a minister...never was and apparently never will be. After all, we Baptists believe that "once you're a preacher, you"re a preacher 'til you die." In other words, a preacher never retires from his calling, he just gets too old and feeble to maintain a pastorate full time. In that case, since he quit pastoring at the relative early age of 40 (or so) and went into politics, he never really had a "calling" to the ministry.

So get off his case. He can act like any wealthy Republican that he so chooses to emulate. There!

Looks like Baptist theologians have a leg up on the legendary Jesuit form of reasoning, if what you say is so, OBE.

I guess the souls of the folks he preached to, when he did preach, are safe from whatever he preached through the miracle of serial baptism. Wonder how close they came to perdition while under the influence of someone who was not really a preacher? What if they died before they had a chance to get dunked again?

Nah, you guys got nothing on real theology.

Hey, how can I get in on that whore banging? Condos and whores...ooh those words get me all worked up. Notice how nasty those Bible thumping Republicans talk? Wait...what's this thread about....oh yeah. To echo what someone else said, I really don't care where Huck moves and how much it costs as long as he's gone and we can move on from this 10 year holding pattern the state's been in.

I have as much chance landing in the White House as Huck, so we really shouldn't waste our beautiful minds on such tripe. The job ahead is to keep Beebe honest and see if he can pull us out of 49th and not be so embarrassing in the process.

Well, I care where he moves. Shady Valley is just a mile or so from my house. Also, it's very close to Grampa's Catfish Cabin. I wonder if the temptation will get the best of little ol' Mike.

DBI>>>>aren't you an Indian from eastern Oklahoma? live in Ft. Smith? You are a drunken Indian ! Now...I get it. That's the reason you are so boring and wandering in your stoopid comments.

HOW did you know? Me make-em big smoke signals..throw white man off my trail. Spend many nights drinking fire water..ugh...no good. See great white father now 5 moons..him find no WMD....him no find floaty black brothers in Gulf of high humidity....him no good....I take burnt stick and cow udder and make-em bad medicine....put it in diet meal of small white father in LR....he land-em in Lord's Ranch jet, make him squat often like squaw....me laugh and laugh....

"And, just for fun, whose $$$$ bought the post-presidential palace in NEW YORK? Bill wrote a book, Hill wrote a book, and we still pay for security."

At least President Clinton wrote his book AFTER he left office. How many books has Huckabee written while we were paying him to be Governor? Hell, I own a small business and there's no way I'd have time to write a book. Surely running an entire state is more work than running one small business????

Apparently the Clinton's, and not Jesus, are the new moral standard for Republicans.

your pulaski co. link didn't work

Look how close it is to the NLR Airport.

who knows, maybe a convicted felon or violent offender he released early will move in his neighborhood.

I don't care about the size of the house he lives in. I would live in a bigger one if I could afford it, but why oh why does he have to sully the good name and reputation of NLR by moving here? We were such a nice little city until he decided to foul it with his awful family.

So bold and blue (and no clue), I guess you would only have been satisfied if the paper reported that the Huckabe's would leave the mansion in January to live in a cardboard box down by the river and had given every penny the had to the starving kids of the world fund? How about you? You in a house? Looks like you have a computer. Get rid of that and spend it on helping others. Hey, I'm not throwing stones - I'm a sinner. But don't throw 'um unless you're stepping up to the plate yourself. Shesshhhh, what a nut case.

fyi inside,

My assets are about $2,000 total. I only buy what I need and donate the rest to charity. My computer is necessary for my work. Despite that, am I perfect? No. But I sure as hell don't call myself a Christian preacher and live in a half million dollar home while children die around the world.

does it have a landing strip?

The truly Christian way to live would be to live as cheaply as possible and donate every available dollar to charity. None of us are perfect so we all follow this aspect of Christianity to varying degrees. One thing is for sure though, living in a half million dollar house while children die is not the action of a Christian.

If Jethrine decides the house needs a makeover before they move in, they can borrow another triplewide from the state mobile home lobby and live there until the ree-pairs are done.

Do you all have access to what the Huckabes give to charity? What if it's more than 10 percent, which is what the bible instructs? I don't know. Good grief, you guys need to get a life. Great, give everything you can to chairty. Keep up the good work. We all need to do our part. However, spouting "holier than thou" and judging others is not helping the christian movement, it hurts it. I'm not responsible for them or you; I'm responsible for my own actions with God. Let them be resonsible for their own actions as well. Let it go.

Sort-of a nice looking mansion. Too contemporary for me, though, and the prominent guttering looks weird. What puzzles me is why elected officials get to collect money from god-knows-where while holding office while employees of the same State are prohibited from enhancing their salaries from benefactors.

How much you want to bet that "Inside" is more than eager to get into people's private lives when it comes to sex or abortion. Of course, that's different....yeah...right

Christianity does not teach us to give only 10%. You and Huckabee are free to waste money while children die, but your actions effect others. That makes it a public concern as well as a Christian concern, and I'll continue to point out that such waste is not Christian.

The very fact that you can claim such waste is ok as long as you give 10% is disgusting. So children that could be helped must die because people like you need half million dollar homes? You really want to justify that to Him some day? Good luck.

The left doesn't do self-righteous very well.

Leave that to experts.

...I'm not responsible for them or you; I'm responsible for my own actions with God. Let them be resonsible for their own actions as well. Let it go.

This would be a fine idea, if Huck wasn't a governor. He is accountable to the public for his words and actions.

I believe that there are some very jealous people on here. He has a nice house and good for him. He has worked hard and has EARNED some money along the way and he has the right to buy a nice house if he wants to. There is nothing unethical about it, nothing non-christian about it, and nothing wrong with it.

People can preach about those "sins" that don't tempt them. Yet they don't want to talk about the sins they commit or are tempted to commit. They justify spending money on things they do not need while fellow humans die.

As a fellow liberal, let me just note that the judgment and comdemnation relating to Christain vaules on this thread are just as repulsive as when Republicans do the same.

I am proud the Gov got a nice home. I wish him the best and a lot of happiness in his new home and neighborhood.

How much you want to bet that anonymous 6:44am lives in a big ol' house too?

As for the "judgment" do you mean to tell us that you never judge George Bush?

Thousands are dying around the world every day. When a person's actions effect others, it's a public matter and should be pointed out.

As usual, the hatred, jealousy, and hypocrisy drips from the lips of you liberals. You hate Christians, and seek to mock them and demonize them in every way (by the way I do not consider myself to be "very religious"). You call them haters, yet if that is true, it can only be derived that your hatred for the other side is equally as impaling, if not more so. You are no more open minded than anyone else. You just choose to be open-minded about the people you agree with...which is really not very open-minded at all. In regards to Huckabee having an expensive house, there is not a person on here who, if they had the ability, wouldn't buy a more expensive house than the one they currently live in. Preacher or no, he is a productive citizen, and a person who would have earned a decent living regardless of whether he was ever a governor, or pastor of a large church. He never would have been some poor person living in a dump. I know a lot of you liberals in here probably do live in dumps, but that is probably attributed to the laziness your ideology not only condones, but encourages. That is your problem, and it can only be corrected by a change in perspective and attitude. So instead of hating the man because he is a success, why don't you try to do what it takes to make yourselves more successful. By the way, for all of those complaining about Huckabee not giving every dime he has away to "poor, starving children"....how many of you give more than $2,500 a year to charity of any sort? Probably not very many, so unless you can put your money where your mouth is, you probably shut keep your mouth shut.
